+corvusala There are appearantly lost of recorded material from the sessions. Including quite a lot leaked on youtube, so maybe some of it will be released. Eno said that he and Bowie had talked about continuing their collaboration from Outside just months before Bowie's death.

And Earthling and The Next Day have Outside-like tracks. I think he made his sequels in a way.

@@nicolasbascunan4013 'Contamination' was never recorded. Things karamazov talks about is 'Leon', the first early version of what later became 1'Outside. Leon is on youtube for almost a decade, but estate had even no heart to include it to 90's boxset. All worthy beats from Montreux, beside Leon and Outside, Bowie long used as the bonus tracks and elements of the new compositions. My thought: no, we'll never see any follow up. Wouldn't be dissapointed if i'm wrong though
He was his most attractive in the era in my opinion
Artistically and as a person. He just seemed well rounded. A full person.
Interesting to hear him talk about "death, violence and chaos" at the end of the old millennium and start of a new millennium, as an upcoming trend just a few years before the 911 attacks on New York City, where he lived. Since then, terrorism has become much more prevalent worldwide, with the more recent attacks in Paris and Brussels. It is the breaking down of civilized society, and as usual, David Bowie saw it happening, and used his music to reflect it.

This is my favorite album!
To everyone worked up about the originality comment: David had no problem telling people about how he wasn't an original thinker (he once said originality is overrated) and how he would always "steal" bits and pieces from his many influences. He was a cultural magpie and there's nothing wrong with that. I admire how he was never ashamed of it and seemed tired of the lie that originality is the most valuable quality in an artist.
You Belong in Rock n Roll is the prime example of this. It is made up of quotes that it is fun to trace, but is more than its components and uses them to full affect.

Unfortunately he never completed the trilogy. I wish he would’ve given us the two follow ups than earthing or hours
He is an artist and I totally understand him :) I did art at uni and I very much did what I wanted, I loved discovering new things and didn't feel the need to focus on one thing :) didn't go down well with some but I survived :) it's really exciting if you free your approach to creative things! paint a picture with banana or toy car, who said you always need to use a brush :) just ignore those who try to keep you on the same old path
Bowie live around that time always sounds better with new material than the old classics like Rebel Rebel and Life on Mars. That's what I've come to admire about him, his focus on now and no nostalgic looking back in the creative process, even as he feels obliged to do the older stuff live. His passions are with what he's working with now.

The critic's attempt to pigeonhole this are unintentionally hilarious and surprisingly staid, at least compared to what I remember of the 90s however that could well-be down to cultural differences at the time.
Bowie himself is as fascinating and well-spoken as ever in the interview, however.
He creates and leaves it to us to interpret. That is not, not taking responsibility for your work. That is having no control over how someone interprets what you are doing. Everyone sees things differently and applies their own, plight, or sight, how can any artist take responibility for that? David is genius, you may not see it the way he does, but that's not up to him. It's like Manson blaming Helter Skelter (Paul McCartney) for his death rampage. Please!!!!

Considering that bowie tried to be "avant-garde" in this era, i think is a brave move for him, he always wanted to be scott walker since he listen to his records so i thinkits better to bowie if we see him as a art-rock, pop legend and not as a avant garde composer

Looking back on it now, 1. Outside feels like it has a lot in common with Dennis Potter's The Singing Detective, both being non-linear crime stories depicted in psychological space. Bowie even does this interview from a hospital bed set and performs the 'Detective' part for the camera.
Terrible interview. Brilliant man.

There was no master bullsh**ter like Mr. Bowie. An art form in itself :)
Interesting, seems David was not really interested in the big city morbid art and just exploited and put it all out there to its ultimate level so we could all be done with any fascination with it and move on to more proper interests. Art crimes investigator character. Certainly laid out more evidence than we wanted to handle so we could make our judgment and move on. Such a thorough artist.

Kind of an interesting relic from a time when people genuinely believed society could use political correctness to cure itself from its violence. I feel like those of us who grew up during this time period are much more culturally accustomed to violence at least in a fantasy sense than our parents and yet violent crime is much lower than its peak in the early 1990's, but who gets to claim credit for that? What lesson are we supposed to learn?

They were still living in the dayglo splattered 80s, while Bowie had already moved into the goth-y tattoed 90s. When she says he's not taking responsibility, it's like she's accusing him of corrupting kids and turning them into vampiric ritualists.

You don't understand music or art in the slightest if this is how you view art.
Bowie prolific and comercial decade was the 70s but as a popular culture icon was the 80s, i must admit that was the era in his catalog that become some and kitsch, even for his standars. So i think is good if we see bowie as an artist and a human, not an idol who all his albums are gold. Outside was bowie's take on scott walker
I think Zappa, even though he didn't like Bowie, would have appreciated the concept of Outside.

David, Rock God, c'mon, please! The Hearths Filthy Lessons is an impressive piece of excellent sound and striking vision, but there is an interview of you (by Susan S.) in 1983 when you took complete responsibility for your creations, stating: "It's an accumulative device; the more you write about the negative, the more you increase the currency and value of negativity. If you make the decision to write positively, then you can contribute towards whatever is left as positive in life"...
Of course I won't argue with the right to pull the blanket, and the value of doing so as the "social observer" you were --and above all your right to do what you like (and God only knows what you are doing these days...!!), but responsibility, you had, sir. And denying that was just using another mask or another lie. Or whatever, chameleon... creative artist and businessman... Thanks for all your explorations and their crystalisations you brought forth.
The narrator is very rude, and you can see Bowie struggles to talk with her even though in other interviews he is open and chatty.
