Well as a Warhammer fantasy and 40k player of 30 years plus. I’ve recently turned my back on GW. Mainly due to pricing and there treatment of the community. I’ve branched out and know play Billhooks , SPQR and Bolt action. Billhooks it’s fast it’s comparably simple and this I find is a massive bonus. You can turn up to a gaming club and get a few games of and relax. A game can be too complicated. That said this game is just about right but the biggest pro I find in this game is I’ve learned so much on the war of the roses 🌹 and deciding your Battles Colors and leaders is fun. Because it’s all based on real history omg the books I’ve read since playing this. This chap is a talented game maker and the new book gives GW a good run for there money !
@@gordo6908 I really like the card activation part of it where there's a nice balance of friction and planning and you got better granularity of unit compositions that is fitting of the historical flavors. The melee mechanics is certainly another interesting part, especially if there are reactions, flanking attack and things that kick off from event cards if applicable. There's a lot nice levers to pull to give combat a nice flavorful narrative which is my bread and butter. I hope that answers your question.
Brilliant game ,deluxe version under the christmas tree,

Does anyone know if the Batons War variant for the original Billhooks is available anywhere?
Peter Young and Charles Grant also used individually based soldiers with 48 to 60 figures to a battalion took a lot of moving.
I would really like to see a Pike and Shot era version of these rules. This is arguably better than Lion Rampant.
Shots fired ! I'll have to try these out.
what specifically do you prefer in billhooks?
