  • This Is Who REALLY Trapped Genie In The Lamp (Genie's Sketchy Backstory Reveals ALL) | Disney Aladdin
For being one of the most beloved Disney characters of all time, Genie never really got any story of his own in Aladdin or any of the sequels. And they never really delved into the mystical being's back story, particularly how he got trapped into that golden lamp in the first place. Thankfully, after scouring the internet and digging through various possibilities, it finally feels like there is a solid theory that could explain Genie’s untold backstory and answer the question we’ve all been asking ourselves: who exactly trapped him in that lamp?

In Aladdin the Series, genie was reunited with his second to last master. It was revealed that this Master traded Genie to a Sorcerer in exchange for Inmortality. And it was the Sorcerer who supposedly was the one who left Genie in the Cave of Wonders.

I always assumed it was implied he was always trapped automatically. Along with every other genie. Since when Jafaar wished to be a genie he automatically had a lamp.

Nice theory, but don't forget that there could be other reasons to trap Genie other than him being evil. Genie is mischievous and uncontrollable in Aladdin, exactly the sort of being who might cause chaos for the sake of a laugh and never stop to consider the consequences. He wouldn't be the first prankster they put away.

  • @SnubAlarm
    @SnubAlarm Рік тому +27

If it isn't just automatic for genies to be restrained like that by nature, then why did Jafar become trapped in a lamp just from his wish to be a genie? No one from these theories was there to trap him the moment he changed. He became a genie, at which point his shackles and lamp materialized on their own, already bound to him and him to them.

    • @savannahhague4989

Probably because he’s already evil and someone more powers than genies can tell he’s a threat so the lamp is there🧐

Maybe it's an ongoing great ritual magic that triggers immediately on the creation of a Genie basically someone in the past didn't trust any genies so they set it up so they'd be contained automatically it could have even been set up by the first Genie as a precaution

I'd hazard a guess that it could have been the lamp's previous occupant. Genie trapped Jafar in a lamp by turning him into a genie after Aladdin tricked him into wishing for it. It seems plausible that a clever and less kind genie might have tricked their master into wishing to trade places with them; freeing the genie and trapping Genie in the lamp instead.

A real wrinkle to this theory is that as soon as Jafar wished he could become a genie, he was immediately shackled and imprisoned. The only way that this could make sense is if a Jinn and a Genie are actually two different, but similar beings, with a genie specifically being a Jinn that is bound and imprisoned to an object, and a Jinn itself being something that is unbound and free. Had Jafar wished to have been a Jinn then, he would have been unstoppable. However, there's nothing to suggest that genies and jinns are in fact separate and distinct beings.

Another thing to look at with Ursula not being able to, is simply look at the time era; just by the 10,000 years remark, and doubtful that Ursula is immortal or that she has eternal youth, there is no way she could; just by that simple logical outlook

  • @Shearper2

oh no. you said that until he learned about friendship. and we all know what that means. That genie had to learn about the magic of friendship. Magic of Friendship is not only the most powerful form of magic, but is also, most likely. Universal.
how often has friendship turned villains into heroes or allies to the main character. Friendship is the GOAT form of magic

The Odd Sisters aren't part of the "original" concept, but since you're throwing theories around, we don't know the circumstances that may have influenced Ursula to trap Genie or anyone else (unless someone writes it into being).
Genie needs to be trapped for the Aladdin story to work. His backstory isn't as important, though curious minds wonder.

The genie of Aladdin is a combination of three genies. Two of which are in the original Aladdin fairy tale one in a ring that gets Aladdin out of the cave of wonders and can only preform simple tasks, the genie from the lamp that grants wishes who originally had no limit to the number of wishes they grant and finally a genie from an obscure fairy tale who was trapped in a lamp because they were mischievous. This genie was trapped in a lamp and cursed to grant only three wishes to each master. Those wishes were there to test the genie if can grant only one single wish without any tricks they’d be free. The genie would mess with people by taking things very literally some versions of the story make this act deliberate other version the genie does it because he thinks that’s what it means.

Well that is a possibility but of course there might be a little whole in that. After all, also in Sofia the First there are a couple items that are magical lamps that have genies of any age and gender and a genie patrol. Well, when clicking on the magical lamp it’s not that clear on who made it. Maybe it could be marubian gods. I mean gods they can make good and bad choices and are really powerful even if people believe in them or not. If it’s a marubian god that will may explain why the lamps writing looks marubian and also gods don’t like djinns no matter good or not. However, since a marubian god is probably separate from the marubians, they probably don’t need a jewel to control or trap. In both series the marubians artifacts have a little magical jewel. However, lamps there is no magical jewel. Just speculating but we won’t know until there is an answer. Which won’t be until a while or Disney decides to share the answer.

I think it took a genie to trap genie? after all jaffar wished to become a genie and genie did state he was trapped for 10,000 years and that his master was LARGER than a human aladdin ( your a lot smaller than my last master) maybe his last master was a real gin and he asked to become a genie? not too sure but also 10,000 years in early ad agraba would be 7-8000 BC i dont think people knew what gold was or valubale gold is and rare precious stones seen in cave of wonders so maybe with genie's shape shifting we see him as jack nicholson, rogerfeil turned abu into a car and compaire it to 3 season tv serise that has machines and robots powered by stones maybe aladdin takes place in the far far future? and genie did say something about phononomal cosmic powers traped him in the lamp maybe a real gin or a god as we do see gods at least 1 in the aladdin cartoon serise traped him and or that ginie was a human at one stage and was turned into the big blue lout we all love today?
This is a great epiosde great theory who knows maybe disney will make a prequel aldaddin movie?

If we want to look at who Trapped him in the lamp, we should also look at the time when the legend of the Jinn originated. After all, the timing of it has a large part to play. And to top it off when Jafar became a Genie, he also got his own lamp, as if it is a rule that all Genies must have lamps, as such it might be the fact the the person who created the first Jinn made it so they would be trapped in lamps to contain their might powers. After all, the Earth that exists in the world of Disney is based off of ours, so it is possible that Mesopotamian Gods were the ones who trapped the Jinn in lamps as to protect those that worshipped them.

I have an alternative theory: Genie became trapped in his magic lamp by none other than Chernabog himself when the former disobeyed a direct order to do something unspeakable on the latter’s behalf. So the Lord of Bald Mountain reasoned that if Genie wouldn’t grant his wish willingly, then he would be cursed to grant three wishes against his will for any mortal master who happened upon the magic lamp.

If you talk about friendship or learning a lesson what about the enchantress from beauty and the beast. Maybe genie was horrible to people before hand with his pranks and silly personality and she took note and trapped him in a lamp.
That would just be my theory though as we don't know the power scale between them. She may of had to possibly trick him to let down his guard.
