- What is Denis Villeneuve's next movie after Dune Part 2? Could he direct Dune Messiah, a Rendezvous with Rama film, a Cleopatra movie, Sicario 3 or something completely unexpected? Paul Atreides leads nomadic tribes in a battle to control the desert planet Arrakis. Dune is an upcoming epic science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve with a screenplay by Jon Spaihts, Villeneuve, and Eric Roth. The film is an international co-production of Canada, Hungary, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It is the first of a planned two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, which will cover roughly the first half of the book. The film stars an ensemble cast including Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.

Can't wait for Rendezvous with Rama. The only science fiction book that was a page turner for me.
Rendezvous with Rama is gonna be something epic if Arrival is anything to go by and D.V. doing Bond would be sick but I doubt it, He's sort of solidifying himself in Sci-fi but then look at Sicario💯🔥. Anything he makes is gold.💯👑

Yeah I totally agree on Bond. I wouldn't be surprised if the secret project was something other than sci-fi as well. The man has mastered that genre and he's already got 2 sci-fi films in the pipeline with Rama and Dune Messiah. Gonna be interesting to see what it is!

I hope Denis' version of Rama is better than the book. Never was all that enthusiastic about the book. But, I adore Arrival, so I trust Denis.
@@Mentat1231 Im going for visuals more than story but it is a story I need a good catch up on, it didn't stick with me like 3 body problem did or obviously Dune.

It's plausible, but that break even figure (BEF) may be artificially inflated. A heuristic for a typical studio release is 2-2.5× the production cost. Since Dune 1.2's is $190M, that means the BEF range is $380-475M.
A nice change of style for Denis would be "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" by Jules Verne. An almost page by page version, unlike the Disney movie.
7:30 ish. I thought BR2049 was a fitting sequel that really captured the aesthetic of the original. As for Dune, his love of Herbert’s work shines through in both movies so far. I trust him as a director. I also trust him with A.C. Clarke’s work too, there’s no one more suited to the task imho. Rama will be given the same care and love when brought to the screen I’m sure. Note: The time jump between Dune Part Two and Dune Messiah will almost certainly be more than 12 years, not less. The reason why is that in Dune Messiah the yet born Alia will get it on with someone. So Alia will need to be at least 18 in the movie.

Cleopatra actually sounds interesting - but Zendaya is a bit of a choice, and I’d rather see other lesser known actors get a chance to shine and let’s be honest, Zendaya somehow manages to be a bit of a personality vacuum in whatever she’s in, despite her off screen persona being way more fun.
if you know the director he gets BIG actors & not some lesser actor so Zendaya will play Cleo like it or not

I like Zendaya, but Cleopatra was a Macedonian. I'd rather Denis cast someone of Egyptian or Greek heritage.

He's one of the few I would trust for that given his trackrecord.
It has to be a bigger time jump to get Alia age appropriate. I Imagine an 18-20 jump instead of the novels 12. I see no issue with this.
Nice video - it would be good to know when this Playlist interview took place - before Dune 2's release, I remember Villeneuve expressing this wish to wait, and discussing these other projects; however, after the release, I remember him following up and saying it was in fact possible Dune 3 might be next, and that the only thing they're waiting for to move ahead for that is a completed script - re the comparison w Dark Knight Rises, I think Ledger's death also had a big impact on the delay re Nolan's plans for part 3
it’d be interested to see Villeneuve make a space-bound sci-fi movie, a-la _2001,_ with a very small cast… and also just something smaller in scale, non-sci-fi.
As long as he has his creative freedom, I will be happy! But hopefully, Dune: Part 3 won't be too long of a wait away!
I just feel like the whole dune franchise should rest in Denis’s hands. I’m okay with him just finishing Paul’s arc because if that was all FH made, I would not be mad about Paul’s ending at all, but I still feel there’s so much that can be done with this whole story and honestly take a Star Wars approach, this can be a pivotal role in how movies should be made in the future. I feel Denis can definitely make anything FH made beautifully on Film. I really wish and hope that in the near future there will be a way to incorporate more into films because the Dune universe has so much lore so much gold

If Denis Villeneuve is taking a break from Dune, I don't think he would work on another huge sci-fi movie like Rama. Wouldn't he want to do something smaller, then go back for Dune Part 3, I meen Rama would probably take 2 years to make, then another 2 for Dune part 3. I've read all 4 books so I would love to see Rendezvous with Rama come to the big screen.
The secret project appears to be "Nuclear War: A Scenario".
I trust Denis implicitly, but i gotta say I have no idea which i would personally want first... Rama or messiah? oh man so difficult.for me. Honestly though, I will struggle to be excited if it's not sci-fi.
Zendaya would be a good Cleopatra. But after watching Dune 2 I actually think Souheila Yacoub could be really good too. She had an excellent presence and charisma as Shishakli.

Whatever it takes but I hope he'll be the director, and with him; Zimmer, Ferguson, Chalamet, Bardem, Rampling, Pugh and all the cast and crew possible for Dune Messiah
I don't mean to rush things but this part 2 left me hungry for more. Thimoteé Chalamet is 29 years old, the same age as Paul in Messiah, so I don't think they should wait SOOO much for a new entry
I'm not hearing "Hyperion". I enjoyed Rendezvous with Rama, but it doesn't really have characters or conflict that lend themselves to a movie.
He should make Children of Dune and finish the story of Paul Atreides

The problem with Dennis taking a break is that the film quite clearly lends itself to a part 3.

I personally want denis to take his time. However i would also like it if dune messiah was also in 2 parts.
IMHO, DV made more of Dune than the book had to give. I don't think the Messiah book will be enough for him, so he will need time to put together a superMessiah. Maybe combine parts of Children. RAMA is a thin book that I am surprised he want's to adapt. Must be that he believes he can make it work much better than the page. He probably could. Never do Bond. Fun but not his style. I think we have a big surprise coming first.
I personally can’t see him being involved in a movie like Bond- doesn’t seem to be to the caliber of movies he typically directs.
