Making a Primitive Sea Lion Bone Spoon
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 бер 2021
- According to archaeologists the first evidence of spoons appeared in Egypt around 1000 B.C. I don't consider a spoon to be a necessary survival tool but it does enhance the food experience. In this video I take a recently collected bone and turn it into a functional spoon using strict primitive bushcraft techniques. Would you use a spoon like this to eat acorn mush?

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):
Who films you?
I do. I travel alone, shoot, edit, upload, everything.
How many cameras do you use?
Usually I use just one camera. When I have underwater scenes then I also use a GoPro camera. I get different angles by moving the camera around and repeating the action to create a more cinematic viewing experience for the audience.
Where is this place?
In order to protect the integrity of the natural landscape I prefer to be very vague about the locations I use. There are places that I used to visit that were so beautiful and untouched but the consequences of social media brought all kinds of people to visit and sadly some people do not respect nature and have badly damaged these places. Therefore I do not share exactly where I go.
Do you workout?
Yes, I workout, but not in a gym. I have some weights that I use and also do a lot of bodyweight exercises. I also run and sometimes swim. I hike frequently do collect wild foods and to shoot these videos so I'm very active all the time.
Are you vegan or vegetarian?
I wish I could maintain my health on a primal diet that does not include animals but unfortunately that did not work and I ended up with health problems as a result of those attempts. From my studies, observations of nature, and personal experience I have come to believe that the best diet for optimal human health is a primal diet (paleo).
Do you get lonely when you’re alone?
No, I don’t get lonely. I’m actually so busy shooting video, taking photos and doing so many other things like making cordage, cooking, weaving, etc. that I really don’t have time to think about my lonely condition. Sometimes when something profound happens on an adventure I can’t wait to share it with people, but other than that I do not get lonely.

It would be pretty sweet to see a little village built by him. Each little hut has a purpose, like a workshop or cookery
That's exactly what I want to do!
@@ChadZuberAdventures Oh wow, you saw my comment :)
Hey Chad, a great way to soften bones for sanding is to soak them until they are slightly flexible🤘
Flexible? I've heard of making bones flexible in vinegar, but in water?
@@ChadZuberAdventures The smaller bones will bend slightly, when they are soft you can tell if the larger ones are ready. However, if there are no small bones you could just play it by ear. I use this method for making needles and tools from cow bones as well as deer. Much easier😀
You can make beautiful crochet hooks. But be warned; if you crochet with them they work so much better than steel ones that you won't want to use a steel hook again. They are a quarter of the weight of a commercial hook. They feel like ivory, not a crankshaft. They last years. They are easy to make.
@@ChadZuberAdventures Hi Sir, hoping you read my message 🙏
@@ChadZuberAdventures The traditional way to soften bone for spoons (+ other) in my country, is to boil them in water.
Yeah man...Made my knife handle out of a Deer Antler, hard work, good results, any thing in nature has a use...love the videos, keeps me learning
Are antlers harder than bone?
@@ChadZuberAdventures yes but only slightly
I'm not to sure, never worked with bone, handle hasn't broke yet and built the knife 4 years ago and still holing good
@@andrewlangendorfer2925 wow. I have a antler I should try this some day!!
i dont think alot of people have mentioned this but its cool how many subtitles u have on ur videos, even for my native language!
I think youtube translates it
I'm glad you appreciate that. I individually select over forty languages. I know that the Google translation is often terrible but I hope people can understand enough of it.
@@ChadZuberAdventures many words are tranlated to Vietnamese correctly, but some got mistake, but I also look back for English sub to understand it. Anyway, I understand most of thing you do and say.
nothing goes without a trace and that every smallest step has a meaning for this and future life. Very nice! 👍🏼

Watching your videos, succumbing to the excitement, I learned to weave, sew with thread, knit ropes and clothes, and thought about creating my own workshop in a country house. You inspire, and that's cool!
Wow, cool spoon. Congratulations Chad

Yes!
Just beautiful! Oh, and the spoon looks incredible, too! Hehehe, sorry. Couldn't resist.
So much work goes into your videos it's truly amazing!
Thank you Billy, I appreciate it a lot
good idea with a bone spoon!I often watch survival: naked and scared and compare how you survive.moving to the intended goal, you collect everything that can be useful. In survival movies, people start collecting resources only at the rest point.I believe that many good resources will be lost.I also wonder what acorn porridge tastes like)))I haven't tried it yet, we don't have many oaks growing here))
I'm always collecting things when I'm on the move. Often I don't know how I may use something but I stash it and then later I get ideas.
Haha. Ngl, he got me on the first half. I thought he killed a lion 😂😅

There is something I want you to have: a neck pendant. A small oblong plaque made of this bone, polished to a luster, with that Mayan word you have written behind you etched into the bone and the grooves filled in with a contrasting color
Damn u still alive bruh used to watch 2 years back nice stuff bro 😎
:As a advice, cook the naked Bone in boiled hot water for a while , to come out the dirt that in the pores are. It will be much more cleaner than 7:46. Thank for sharing your journey Chad

@Chad_Zuber I was out one day on Monday minding my own business at the park and as I was coming back there was theses people who needed help currently of situations I wasnt inclined to help but helped I did theg were a spiritual group and such they needed help setting up a gazebo up in the woods. So I point out a clearing I helped them down to the clearing I looked down and I see a dead rodent by my feet thinking nothing much about the event I headed home and now watching this videos of your has inspired me to do more crafts so far not many people I know what's to do tbis with me but I will find someone eventually. Thank you chad Zuber for inspiring me to do with my life I was always that kind of person but my heart and mind are open thank you

Now this is the life.Getting and making everything you need.Suppled by Mother Nature.
You got a nifty collection of bones there brother.
1000tools per bone.
Billions of uses.
I use rock flakes from my flintknapping combined with sand and water with your technique of sanding.
Works well with me.
I know you dont check fb messenger much. I did hold my word, and sent you a list of ideas for the bones.
Like i said i would.
I enjoyed this video.
Spoons have a ton of other uses as well. And has proven me, a good tool to pack along for certain tasks on my daily nature walks.
Thanks for your comment. I haven't been on messenger in a while but I will soon look for your message. I appreciate it.
Some scapula flippers and a snorkel could be a great asset. Ground bone meal can be used to make gelatin and feed hungry plans. A scapula comb perhaps. A flute made from a bone? Just some thoughts
👍👍👍👍

So Awesome! also why did you char the spoon?
To sanitize it
You should use the bone dust to add calcium and other minerals for you crops
Yes, good observation. I was thinking that it must be good nourishment for plants.
Eres un crack
this is really cool! how do you edit your videos, and do you stay in primitive life forever or no
Chula quedo la cuchara, hare una con madera de mezquite que es la madera que hay por aca, saludos🤠🙋🏼♂️🤗
Me gusta mesquite!
@@ChadZuberAdventures y su fruto las pérchitas muy buenas, ala flor le deciamos borreguitos por su parecido con estos animalitos🐑
Me gusta mucho los frutos del mesquite. Lástima que no encuentro mucho.
I also use my loin cloth to wipe off stuff at home. Lol. Wasn't alot of bones used in jewelry making in primitive periods. Citrus will soften the bones and makes it easier to work
Wind chime with the extras!
You should make shoulder guards with the scapula bones
I was thinking of that although they may be too small
We all can _sea_ that you're absolutely crafty my g
I'm so sorry y'all-
I am both in love with you and also *sea*thing because of that amazingly awful joke
Yes, He is very creative.
Love your pfp
hello friend, you have to use the scapula bone to make a shovel to make it easier for you to take the land. thanks friends for reading my comment, I like your video because it has the theme of survival
Yes, I think that is a good idea!!
Chad zuber make sure to not leave it out in the sun and let it dry if the sea lion bones or the bone spoon are left out in the sun they can dry up and crack and same goes if the bones are not moist they crack rot and break apart into pieces.
Thanks for the advice. I will keep it inside.

The claws of the sea lion, it would be really nice if I made it a necklace for the 2.M
Good luck.
Las garras del león marino, estaría bastante bien que lo hiciera un collar para los 2.M
Mucha suerte.
No encontré las garras pero deben estar allí un poco más profundo.
