- Ahoy Legends this week I pack the 4WD and hit the sand to spend 30 hours on a beach putting myself up against the fish to try catch myself enough for some tasty meals. The plan is to target Tailor, dart, whiting and bream, but as it turns out that might not be such an easy thing to achieve and big swells, sharks and absent fish wreak havoc on my plans! I hope you enjoy the episode.

Love those beach vids Sammy. Used to do a lot of that in my younger days. Nothing like fishing on the beach and setting up camp and gathering around a nice campfire. Yeah that’s a first for me too, especially on a 2 hook rig! The daytime can still produce some good catch, just have to pick your day 👌👌

The average diesel in Texas is an F250. Waay heavier than your Toyota. Little diesels are, for some reason not allowed, not offered, never understood that either. They would be awesome in lots of places.
Our sand on Padre island National seashore and South Padre is pretty fine. Unless we've had really high tides and or hard rain and packed it down pretty good there's some areas where you'll just bury up in a big truck. Even with deflated tires. I know lots of people who've been all 60 miles of PINS in a big diesel, I've never timed it right, and to be honest I've never needed to.

What are using for your rod holders in the sand?

The rod holders are just some Polly pipe cut to length with some reflective tape on the end 👌👌
Love your channel brother, just a tip.... put a couple of pieces of tapes on your rod and measure them apart to the length of the minimum size fish. this way you can check it when you reel the fish in instead of going back to your truck to get the measuring tape.

Yeah mate I surely do, didn’t think it was worth it for a mac tuna, if they were longtails or tailor it might have been a different story!
You have the best way of fishing at your fingertips, design something that will fit on a drown then just let the line run and get the drone to drop the lure and then fist as normal.
I have a release clip for the drone! Might have to bring it out at some stage. Maybe when the are longtails or big tailor not just Mac tuna 👍👍

Thought about it, if they were longtail tuna or tailor I might have given it a whirl. A lot of effort and drone battery to do it!
Any tips for the Alvey setup. I have one but seem to get twist in the mono line. I use same breaking strain swivels as the main line. I note your using a running sinker or similar rig.
I use pretty large swivels to help keep the twist down, and also allow my line to spin after every cast to help it unravel.
I use what’s called a restricted sinker rig. Which means it sits between 2 swivels 👌👌
Sammy, rookie tip for you. If you use the same rod for beach fishing targeting taylor and such, go to an automotive paint supplier and get a small touch up bottle (for chip repairs) and paint the legal size for taylor on your rod in a neat little line.
No need for the run around and get the ruler to measure the fish. Just bang it up against the rod and if it's good, it's good. Keeps the fish in better health too.
I put strips of electrical insulation tape up around the rod, measured from the top of the grip. 25cm for bream, 30 for dart, 35 for tailor. Hold the fish against the rod, instant decision whether I can keep or release.
Not a bad idea mate! Thanks for that! I usually have a wading bag on me with a ruler in it. Too be fair I usually try to keep the ones that don’t need to be measured but was struggling a bit on that day!!

Love my Kaffir/Makrut lime tree...I live somewhere they should never grow. But I have a grow tent, grow light, and a dwarf stock tree. Just got my first 2/9 limes off the tree too! I have a Yuzu to go with it too...not sure how I'm going to stunt that tree, but it has 2 fruit on it!
Just an FYI, Kaffir is a lot racist....in one language, just a lime in another. Thus Makrut, I guess? Stems from apartheid and S. Africa. Afrikaans is to blame. Either way, to stay out of trouble with one group or another, Makrut is more "acceptable".
How long of a rod are you running? Okuma makes a few 12' rods that would do you well and is a tad bit less chonky, those are indeed thicc girls. Though I think you have sponsors in that department, so maybe a useless suggestion. Rockaway if you chance a look. Nice and light, cast like a dream. I have no idea how you cast that center pin....but I've never tried, either. LOL

The rods are custom built bait fishing rods. They are built a little thicker for a softer action and to be more resilient on the rocks etc. the spinning rods I use are a lot different and are super lightweight 👌👌
