Great videos. Glad youtube recommended these. I played these games a TON back in the late 90s early 2000s. Didn't know they had released them all on steam until I saw your vids. Currently playing 2 again. Thanks!

You did way better than expected with what little you had.
11 minutes for the explosives timer! You playing on the hardest difficulty? Props to you sir if so.
Don't push your troops too hard! I would have retreated as soon as I saw paratroops on my side of the river. Your way of commanding troops would make Walter Model blush! lol

haha, thank you. Yes, this is Hero difficulty. It has not been a breeze. I was a little shocked to see a timer over 10 minutes, and one machine gun team as my entire force, but I did what I could.

Another great video. You racked up the kills with that one team. Awesome job. The new logo for this series is just fine.

That's good to hear. Thanks for the kind words. I'm really enjoying the German campaign so far. I'm surprised they got as many kills as they did. I kind of figured when more than 1 squad became visible and everyone started shooting, that they would just run.

Congrats on holding the Bridge (technically)!
I also defended in that exact same spot on my campaign. Despite them being technically over the bridge since you still hold that farmhouse they can't pry you off the map.
For the coming battles you're gonna want to do something similar, for Groesbeek and Osterbeek your forces not getting wiped off the map will count as holding the landing zones, so toggle that Ceasefire right when the battle begins and whittle them down until they'll accept your terms.
Those MGs do amazing jobs of keeping enemy squads pinned, and as you've seen if you ever see enemy infantry standing or running in range of an MG retarget immediately because you'll definitely get a quick kill or two.
Really good work keeping the MG moving targets so the airborne didn't keep moving up a single burst of fire will get enemy squads to take cover.
If you have more squads than literally one in the future it's useful to keep popping your MGs in and out of Hide mode to conserve their ammo while a different squad (or just your other MG) is spotting.

Thanks. I'm going to try using the ceasefire at the beginning in the next battle, and pick them off until they agree. I'll try taking even shorter bursts to hold them back in the future. Perhaps I'll even have additional troops one day. It will probably be a rough go if these three have to keep retreating to Arnhem and hold that map by themselves 😂

With casualty numbers like this you might even be able to manage it!
Other notes to add: While it may seem odd you probably wanted to go for a longer ceasefire, even with those kills youre gonna be at a manpower disadvantage so you still want to buy time until day 2/3, even one extra squad will increase manpower immensely so an extra couple of hours matter.
Coming up on the next maps like Osterbeek you only have to still be on the map to count as keeping the LZ out of allied hands, so hunkering down wherever you can to keep the allies shooting at you from as far as possible and buying as much time as possible is what's hoped for. As you saw the allies will eventually have one or two men start to stand up and then they're fodder for the MGs.
Your troops will burn through their ammo really quickly if you let them, the actual bullet counts for each weapon are displayed and you'll want to keep squads swapping back to hide and then taking a volley or two if you can (with one squad it was a lot more difficult obviously).
The Ammo indicator also refers to the squad's AT and explosives, they still have grenades and a panzerfaust so Ammo still counts as good.
Some of these next maps are gonna be rough, find one/two good strong points that can hold a strategic point so the allies can't map sweep you and try to take potshots as they burn through ammo, enemy mortar teams also love to waste all their ammo on the first possible target so if that happens to be a well fortified building then thats their support wasted.
The enemy is also way more likely to accept a ceasefire of their Support teams are dead, so Vickers teams (and eventually the tanks) are a good priority to force a halt.

@@131scavy now I'm scared for the counterattack. I'm definitely going to play a more turtle style defense and just have to sit back and try to hold them off.

Well, that's embarrassing. I don't know why, but it never occurred to me that those numbers were remaining ammo. Seriously, I have no idea why I didn't put that together. That is life changing. Oh, it hurts. So, so badly. hahahaha

The ammunition amounts for each individual weapon are shown under the rested status of each soldier. For example, the soldier who routed had 83 bullets. The MG 42 had 1,250 rounds at the start, but it uses about 20 rounds per burst, so it will burn through that very quickly.

Thank you for this. I don't know why, but I never put together that the numbers were remaining ammo.

@@RubberDucky087It's very easy to overlook, especially if a soldier has two weapons like the MG 42 and a sidearm. When they switch weapons, the ammo figures switch as well, making it easy to miss. Loving the series, by the way; it brings back a lot of memories.
