The US allows more fillers and food substitutions than Japan. For instance, 16 ingredients are in the US French fries now; most other big countries don't allow anymore than 3 (potatoes, salt, and frying oil). 😢
Don't forget pink slime burgers. I don't mess with McDs except for beverages. I try to stick to Wendy's salads but every so often burgers because they do seem more like homemade. Tell me if I'm wrong though
All of our friends tell us that the McDonaldn's in the US is different from Japan. Other than the Japan specific items, do you guys notice any difference? Let us know in the comments.
Price, quality outdated menu and restaurants are outdated in most places, they only started uograding restaurant not long time ago, when in other parts of the world self service kiosks and table service has been for years. Fights, violence, homeless and drug addicts...🙈 What else🤔🤔
I guess the burger in McDonald's Hawaii may be "drier" because it was prepared a lot earlier before it was dispensed. Sometimes fast food do it to avoid any hiccups when there are a sudden increase in foot traffic
the drink size is different and everywhere else has other special items except the U.S.A. And yes, in Hawaii, Waikiki or the North Shore side is more expensive than the other locations. For example, Liliha MCD's Egg Mcmuffin (Just the sandwich) is $4.99 and The same thing in Downtown is $6.39
In my closest McDonalds they have a station with salt, pepper, cutlery, straws and a pump for ketchup so you can take it yourself. It's pretty convenent. I live in Sweden if anyone was curious. :P
We have this in Wendy's in the US. Haven't seen it at McD but there is a free refill soda machine. Just use the cup from the drink you bought that same trip and you can try a different soda, iced tea, lemonade or more of the same. Unlimited free refills:)
In USA the prices vary everywhere. I live rural Western MA and just 30 minutes away in Northampton, large 5 colleges city, all items are 10 cents more. I would imagine all foods brought to Hawaii would be more than Mainland also!
I remember Satoshi liking the Saimin previously at the Hawaii McDonald’s. That’s one of the items that I really miss since the supplier closed during the pandemic and they haven’t been able to find another.
Yes, McDonald’s in Waikiki is more expensive than our neighborhood McDonald’s. In general, we do not eat fast food. It’s just too expensive. However, we do eat fast food in Japan. It’s cheaper and tastier. We both like the teriyaki burgers and my husband likes the egg cheeseburger. I like the shrimp burger. The drinks are too small for my husband. He has to get another one. Haven’t tried Taco Bell in Japan, but we did try Burger King, KFC and Subway.
That was fun to watch. I don't eat fast food, maybe once or twice a year. Because I'm old I remember when they were good. McD fries were cooked in beef fat and B King really did grill the burgers. You could see smoke coming out of the roof. Taco Bell was great. You got fresh lettuce and good sauces. Now just looking at the ads it's not appealing. I've read one of the reasons the food is different is that when the fast-food companies move into a non-US country, they have to source the food locally.
That's exactly right. I remember in the '70s, like today McDonald's and Burger King are often found in close proximity, and we used to get the beef suet fries at Mickey D and the burgers at BK. Also, yes Taco Bell gave me a taste for the crispy, U-shaped corn taco shell, is that even authentic Tex-Mex I think they fry the whole thing there?, a sloppy almost watery beef filling, but lovely good condiments, I particularly liked the chopped tomatoes. I was a little kid in Chicago in the 50's when McDonalds was just starting; I had never had fast food before, but I remember the smell and texture of the 15cent hamburger, I never complained if that was our dinner. I still prefer the little originals; the quarter pounder is OK, but the Big Mac, if the bread is old and the lettuce soggy, as they often are, it is a disgusting sandwich that manages to be bland and very offensive at the same time.
@@JackSprat201 We did same. Fries and shakes from McD and burgers from BK. Taco Bell also had a good bowl of refried beans. When we finally got a BK in our small town my younger bro went crazy. On his birthday I go to BK. My trick is to get two regular cheeseburgers. Take the bottom bun off each and put them together. Med Dr. Pepper.
@shinichi & @satoshi get extra sauce on the side and take it home to compare next time Hawaii "hot mustard" is more closer to chinese mustard vs regular yellow mustard, i think that was the difference US McDs raised prices recently because the CEO got greedy, customers are avoiding them now cause its no longer "fast food pricing".
Greetings from Laos. The food looks so good. We don't have McDonald's in our country. But we do have Starbucks Coffee in Vientiane. Also, Walmart is coming to Laos. I'm excited for that.
It should be said that there are variations between McDonalds restaurants even within the same country. If you bought from a big and busy McDonalds in the center of a big city you're more likely to get a well managed store than otherwise.
Actually I remember this one guy on youtube who reviews 1 star McDonalds restaurants vs 5 star McDonalds (or other restaurants than McD) and he often found massive discrepancies between them.
Yes, …. Do Taco Bell…. ! And this was very interesting comparing classic items. And we have hot mustard dipping sauce and honey mustard sauce. Two types of mustard that is why it says “ hot” mustard.
When I used to be able to eat wheat I lived in a US McDonald's "test market" city and we got new items every 6 months or so. Fried peach pie, McPizza(really a triangle shape deep fried pepperoni hot pocket--secret's in they frying) and Nacho Sauce Fries are remembered fondly😋 Too bad they vanished and didn't make the national menu. Most US McDonald's seem to just have the same stuff every year. No special burgers. Free drink refills though:)
It could be that prices in American McDonald's vary from place to place, but I'm not a hundred percent sure... I think the last time I had McDonald's I did more or less the same thing: I ate at McDonald's a few times in Japan then I ate McDonald's when I got back home. I don't remember the fries being different, or the Big Mac tasting different, but the Japanese one wasn't as much of a mess to eat. Of course, most of the McDonald's food I ate in Japan was exclusive to Japan, but I made sure to try a Japanese Big Mac and fries. I really miss the Japanese potato-bacon pie...I really want another one of those, and maybe a teriyaki mac-burger on a rice bun... That reminds me, I need to try Taco Bell myself. I quite like Taco Bell where I live, but I haven't heard much about Japanese Taco Bell. I have tried Japanese KFC, and that chicken sandwich was incredible, but I don't recall there being an equivalent item at the one near me.
Hot Mustard is my favorite. Hawaii's McDs has a special on Chicken McNuggets...20 pcs for $5.99 which is comparable to what you paid in Japan, I think. So much cheaper in Japan. Filet o' Fish is much smaller than before and very expensive. Loved this comparison.
I try to fit in McDonalds once whenever I travel outside the US purely for curiosity's sake. I did try it in Tokyo. Got a cheeseburger, fries, and a croquette side they were offering covered in crispy rice. The cheeseburger was a little more uniform (neat) than the US, but I thought it had similar flavor. The fries were very comparable. The little croquettes were interesting, something they'd never sell in the US. I was also surprised they were out of Coca-Cola at the time. They have hot mustard in the US (a mild version of Chinese style mustard) because they also have honey mustard, which is one of my favorite sauces. Cool to see the fried apple pie in Hawaii! They're still baking the apple pies in Southern California, and they're not nearly as good as the old fried ones.
Gents, hope you two are well. Thanks for this comparison. I'm not a fan of the Big Mac (don't like the dressing, or cheese on burgers) but I must say the Japanese version looked more appetizing than the US version. The beef looked better, the bun as well. And the cheeseburger wrapper used in Japan is the same as the old version used here. My guess is they will phase in the new version as supplies are used up. Looking forward to another comparison video!
Good point. These two do post videos showing Japan's McD specialty items which change with the season or sometimes the holiday. They one time showed a new burger that was gone by the time my friend got there a month later. I'm in America and unless you're in a test market here, not a lot of new items in a year. New shake makes headlines lol
Only tried McDonald's at LAX airport in Los Angeles and it seemed fantastic, but I guess not the norm in America @tabieats but was in 1998 long time ago 😅. Not sure what McDonald's in America is like nowadays.
Baked apple pie, 👎 Fried, 😋 I'm glad ketchup is free where I'm from though you do have to ask for it as they automatically gives chili sauce. I am so envious though that US & Japan have mustard for the nuggets. Good to know their fries are limp all over the whole, i thought it's just over here 😂
As much as I love you guys, you jacked up your test. Going to Hawaii is like going on a tour bus, the driver's are told to only show you prettiest parts, next time I suggest you fly to the mainland. Hawai'i is a very resilient archipelago with a very interesting people; much more than history would give them a place in history for.
Satoshi like the apple pie with the cinnamon? 😂😂 Should have bought some American mcdonald's at the very last min right before got on the plane and brought it back to japan to compare it. Or brought back some sauces to compare.
I wish mainland US McD’s would bring back fried apple pies. I loved them as a kid, but haven’t had them since they changed to baked ones and they were just disappointing. :-( And then they got even smaller, seeming more like baked apple fingers/strips than pies. I wish they’d try selling the shrimp patty sandwich in the US too…if only as a ltd. “International Flavor” item.
McDonald’s is cheaper in the UK too. Calories are far lower now Big Macs used tobe over a thousand calories, now they are 479 I think. Much less. I like their cheese it’s so cheesey. I have the Mctriple cheeseburger and large fries which is like £9. Big Mac packaging is like that in UK too, very retro. All their French fries are made the same. The patties are the same size depending on what burger it is they come frozen then straight on the flat griddle. McDonald’s wants to be the same whatever country so they try. Patties that you had in Hawaii may have been out cos you ordered late at night so they were dry. Depends when cooked. No I didn’t work there I like to know exactly what I’ve eaten.
Deep fried apple pies are better than baked, the McDonald’s here in the states only have the baked apple pies but I would get a similar and better deep fried apple pie from Popeyes.
You're probably too young to remember the jingle "Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun." Nobody in my generation needs to look at a Big Mac and figure out what the ingredients are. We know it by heart.
The Japan McNuggets look crispier! 🤤 Oh, and if you both decide to do a comparison of McDonald's desserts, please do consider including the McSundaes from here in the Philippines: Hot Fudge/Chocolate, Caramel, and the Oreo McFlurry
All the foods must be very similar because overseas (including Japan), the M store staff told us all the materials are imported directly from the USA. That is the reason the M did not sell the French fry for a while because they were short of American potatoes, and needed to wait for the American supplier to provide them again. Why not compare Starbucks, I found the stores in Japan have seasonal promotion drinks often. I love their sakura flower drink in the spring (Minami time) and bumkin drink in the Fall..etc.. The cup designs were so pretty and kept as a souvenir after finishing the drink. Japan Starbucks is better than the one in the USA. Although, all drinks are expensive though. 😆😋
I'm with Satoshi on the pie package. Rather have something to hold it in. I never got any of the regular world wide things when I go to McDonalds in Japan, I always go for the Japan only items or the limited. Here we don't have much of that.
In Australia we can customise our cheeseburgers you can add 5 pickles in your cheeseburger for free. The big macs look bigger in Japan The nuggets look thicker and elongated in Japan
I don’t think I’ve commented on any of your videos before but I just want you guys to know both me and my partner love watching your vids. Watching you for years Thanks for the vids! If I ever get time off work I will drag my partner to Japan so try all the food he wants 😂😂😂
I would be interested to know what you think about Taco Bell. I'm a vegetarian and it is essentially the only American fast food I eat. I prefer everything with black beans becase they tend to have a deeper, smokier flavor. The differences between Americanized Mexican food and Japanese Mexican food are also intriguing. Thankfully not everything appears to be standardized. Difference appeals to me!
It's funny because in the Netherlands we get American fries sauce with our French fries. It's so popular that you can even buy it in the super market. It's called Mad Sauce. But you got Ketchup so I guess they don't have the American sauce in America 😂
When I was in high school we used to order a bag of fresh in the drive thru at McDonald's ...can't do that anymore 😢. Wish you guys could eat Burger King!!!
Yep. Those cheeseburgers look like the ones in Canada 🥴 Nuggets and hot mustard 👍🏼 If you have an air fryer. Throw the fries in there. Crisp them right up!
Honestly only you guys could actually make me curious about a comparison between McDonald's restaurants in those two countries. I particularly love how it is cheaper in Japan; its my personal proof that McDonald's in NA is just ripping people off. One more thumbs up to Japan! 😊
I feel, compared to other countries,America tends to be sloppy in construction of their sandwiches. The best McDonald's that I have ever gone to, just comparing what all McDonald's have in the form of sandwiches, fries, and drinks, is Singapore McDonald's. (Japan and Korea McDonald's comes a very close second. China McDonald's is hit and miss.) As far as pricing in Hawaii, it varies from store to store depending on the location and if it is owned by the Corporation or a franchise owner. From my experience the most expensive McDonald's in Hawaii is the Waianae McDonald's, which is a franchise.
A Big Mac in LA is around $6. I remember around 30-years ago, Carl's Jr. had a burger for $3 or $4, that they called a "Six-dollar Burger." They named it that to make fun of the idea that the more expensive restaurants, made their burgers larger and charged an exorbitant, Six-dollars. Now $6 is the norm for fast-food burgers. Condiments such as packets of ketchup, salt, and pepper are typically on a counter to the side of the restaurant. If you eat on the premises, you can pump out the ketchup into little containers. I think the burger meat in the Big Mac is similarly sized both in the US and Japan. At least that's how it looks in your vlog. Occasionally, they have deals of 20 McNuggets for $5. The sweet-and-sour, in my opinion, is the best tasting sauce.
The real deal would be: America versus Europe McDonald's. It really doesn't matter where in the U.S. you are, McDonald's sucks. Be in France or Germany and you try McDonald's and it suddenly doesn't suck anymore... It's delicious!
American McDonald's has soy extenders. Also, I think because Japanese food tends to be savory, I think the ketchup is sweeter in Japan with a beefier flavor so it tastes better. I also think that the Japanese "medium" soda is American small, and most comes as a medium here. I also like Japanese KFC better, also.
@@TabiEats scratch that, ft st mall is pricey since i guess they want to gouge the office workers. But my uncle was complaining about the McD across the Valley of the temples- that nuggets were $12. I didn't take him seriously but I just checked and 20 pc nugget is now $13 😢That is crazy
I work in McDonald's in Czechia and I visited Japan last year so I had to try McDonald's in Japan. I agree, that quality was better in Japan but the ingredients should be the same everywhere. About burgers being assembled haphazardly it happens here as well but it really depends on a worker who is assembeling the burgers. And evethough you can ask for fresh fries, please don't. It is inconvinient for employers.
2.99 AMERICAN? I thought 2.99 Canadian was ridiculous for their cheeseburger. I only get fast food these days when it’s a unique limited menu item to try once. It’s way too expensive now.
Nuggets are over $1 each ($6.49 for 6), medium fries are $4.39, the breakfast combo when it was on sale in the app used to be $3.99 less than two years ago, now it goes on “sale” for 50% more. Wild stuff.
There's no free dip in the US either. Just free ketchup in foil packets like they showed. It probably comes from when we had a president in 1980s rule ketchup is a vegetable and all schools served it with meals as the vegetable. We US customers might get upset if we couldn't get this "vegetable"😂
7/11 in Japan is better than McD's in the USA! Hopefully Japan which tries to copy so many American habits doesn't lose it's safety and respect factor like the USA
I had an Ebi burger in Fukuoka. It was good. Why are there so many Nepal people working at the fast food places in Japan? We had chiso sprinkles for the fries.i did not like the chiso flavor. McDonald’s in Japan was good. The efficiency in Japan is amazing.
I’m in Japan and I was thinking the McDonalds was fake😂. It’s good to see that it’s probably down to Japan not allowing too many crappy ingredients in. Good job Japan😂
I like Japan and ours in California is all fat not healthy Japan just have different food than us and it's better than ours yes Japan fries is good hawaii is good too here in California you get a lot of ketchup yes Japan don't give you anything they don't have too but I love Japan 7 eleven best convenient food they're
Japanese McDonald’s seemed a lot cleaner. The sizes were all much smaller but the food tasted “fresher” (obviously it’s still McDonalds so quality isn’t high)
Tell me if I'm wrong though

this was a good comparison video...BTW I think you should make Tabieats keychains or more smaller assecories...
I don’t think I’ve commented on any of your videos before but I just want you guys to know both me and my partner love watching your vids. Watching you for years
Thanks for the vids!
If I ever get time off work I will drag my partner to Japan so try all the food he wants 😂😂😂
Love the comparison. Taco Bell be a good comparison. I hardly eat fast food when traveling, but you all making me think twice now…lol
Had the Mc Donalds sprimp buger in Thailand... it was really good. Wish I was back!!
I like to see comparison videos
The Japanese Cheeseburger wrapper is an old form of what we had in the US.
Shinichi you are looking fit these days, bravo!!
Yep. Those cheeseburgers look like the ones in Canada 🥴
Nuggets and hot mustard 👍🏼
If you have an air fryer. Throw the fries in there.
Crisp them right up!
what a fun video oh i love filet of fish hawaiian spam n eggs yes the cost in hawaii is very high yes try taco bell i like their chalupas
That's also why Americans are so heavy. Too much soda!!! Everything is upsized!
Thank you for the video, very informarive 🙂
You did not mention saimin, the soup available only in Hawaii. How does it compare to ramen, etc. Is it like packaged soups or better?
Unfortunately they’ve discontinued the Saimin in Hawaii
Thank you ☺ tank eats for difference between McDonald’s usa 🇺🇸 vs Japan 🇯🇵.
There is a slight differences, because the ingredient are locally sources.
Mustard sauce! Good choice, my dudes :D
I was a fan of the sweet and sour sauce.
I have had those perforated in the middle pie boxes in North Dakota, but I don't remember if it was at McDonald's.
Yes more franchise food comparison videos
The real deal would be: America versus Europe McDonald's.
It really doesn't matter where in the U.S. you are, McDonald's sucks.
Be in France or Germany and you try McDonald's and it suddenly doesn't suck anymore...
It's delicious!
I love McDonald's in Japan, I loathe it in the US. Having the Teriyaki burger in Hawaii is the only reason I'll ever go there.
USA had fried apple pie only in hawaii but fried apple pie would be in the rest of the waters like Georgia South Carolina Florida etc.
I think the most expensive McDonald's on oahu is the fort St Mall location
Really? I wonder why that one is the most expensive…
Waikiki's Mcdee prices are more than other franchisees. Waianae's Mcdee is #2 expensive.
Wait there is a Taco "Hell" in Japan? Don't do it. Just don't eat there. Then again it is probably way different then what they serve here in America.
$13.55AU if you want a large big mac meal in Sydney Australia.. also they charge 50cents for extra sauce .. 😢
Wild stuff.
Wait, did you say 450 yen for 15 nuggets? That’s 4x cheaper!
@13:29 “May I eat today.” 😂😂😂
Quality is so clear guys
The hot mustard is the BEST. Next is honey.
What you need to remember is to ask for the fries " no salr" then they will be fresh and really hot and Krispy.
The apple pies in America are baked. The pie that you guy's were eating in Japan looked fried.
Actually the apple pie we had in Hawaii and Japan were both fried. Maybe it's fried only in Hawaii?
@@TabiEatsHawaii, and I think a few other States have fried apple pies, but most States still serve them baked. Glad I live in Hawaii.
Were there onions on the Japanese Big Mac or did I miss them? Can’t wait for you to try Taco Bell.
In Denmark you do not get free dip with french fries. One has to pay extra, except with chicken nuggets
There's no free dip in the US either. Just free ketchup in foil packets like they showed. It probably comes from when we had a president in 1980s rule ketchup is a vegetable and all schools served it with meals as the vegetable. We US customers might get upset if we couldn't get this "vegetable"😂
I love Japan McD better! The Ebi burger is the best!🇯🇵
I found the McDonald's Japan did put more care in assembling the burgers. In the US the burgers usually looks like someone sat on it.
7/11 in Japan is better than McD's in the USA! Hopefully Japan which tries to copy so many American habits doesn't lose it's safety and respect factor like the USA
I always try KFC etc when in different countries due to different menus
The McDonald’s phone app is great for checking prices in different areas.
Apple Pie is Baked in The U.S these days.. Japan still deep fry the Apple pie and is way better than the U.S version
If US McD started frying the apple pies again...then it would be worth the trip. I miss those.
What a fun video 🎉
The Japanese meal looks more appetizing.
Dang it. I now want to eat some McD's. xP
I've already eaten McDonald's in the USA and Japan... Without a doubt, in Japan it's not even more fancy, well done...😊😋🍔🍟
Now fried apple pie is exclusive to hawaii McDonald’s.
You calling a McDonald’s cheeseburger “great” makes me have to reevaluate all your food reviews
It is not good for you,!
Valid point
One of biggest difference is the drink. In the US there is free refills, but Japan it is not.
I like Japan and ours in California is all fat not healthy Japan just have different food than us and it's better than ours yes Japan fries is good hawaii is good too here in California you get a lot of ketchup yes Japan don't give you anything they don't have too but I love Japan 7 eleven best convenient food they're
McDonald’s in Japan tastes so much better than the US. It tastes fresher, and the food actually looks like the pictures lol
The McDonalds at Kāhala Mall is more expensive than the Waikiki one.
Wow didn’t know that!
Japanese McDonald’s seemed a lot cleaner. The sizes were all much smaller but the food tasted “fresher” (obviously it’s still McDonalds so quality isn’t high)
I want to see you both try Taco Bell!!
