The thing that's crazy to me is that I have access to all of this information and incredible perspective before I head to the academy. You are all learning as seasoned officers and I have the ability to start my career with some of this knowledge.
I would think it would just be common knowledge to explain clearly what happened. I always thought that was the reason to write a report. But what I’m hearing is .lets try to down play what happened because now that I’m trying to write it n a report it sounds really bad. Well if it sounds really bad maybe you shouldn’t have did what u did . I truly like this lawyer I wish he was a second amendment layer !! Cops need to learn the second amendment.
@@shotsfiredpodcast50 Thank You! I learned a lot from watching your podcast prior to starting mine and there's no doubt I will continue to learn more from watching your future episodes. Keep up the great work!
One of the biggest career enders is "pride" . Good officers can let things go and don't have to "win". Since being retired, I've encountered way too many young officers who lack good communication skills. They flat don't know how to talk to people.
Phil Downs Jr. is the next evolution in police civil defense! Don’t wait to become a client. Hire this dude now for an agency wife update. If you don’t know, now you know.
Can you do an episode where y’all talk about your experience in field training phase of being as officer? I’m starting the academy in January and the biggest thing I’ve been stressing about is the field training phase that comes after graduating the academy.
From a retired senior training deputy, Listen, learn and ask questions. Read and know policy and state law. I wish you the best and a great future! Stay safe and alert🙏
It would be cool to see you guys break down that Albuquerque PD active shooting in 2013 when Christopher chase stole that police car and drove around shooting at police.
Great info and knowledge to have! Always need to keep educating and growing in the law enforcement community, especially as the law is everchanging. Awesome episode showgun.
Mike, Mark & Billy, thank you all for creating this for us. I am looking to join thr academy after I do my ride-along & I want to say thank you. Your videos definitely help. Keep at it. If you ever come to El Paso, let me know so you can test our shooting range🤠
This one was great, he really made report writing easier for me. Be honest, be accurate and say exactly what happened and don’t worry if it sounds bad. Honesty is the best policy, if you were not in the wrong you will be ok. And this guy sounds like an 03 Marine.
Why is this even a discussion? Cops get qualified immunity so there is no accountability or transparency. Police investigate themselves and always find that there was no wrongdoing. If there happens to be video, because of powerful police unions and biased employment contracts, police can have access to all video and evidence before having an interview. If by a miracle a cop is dismissed, they can get their jobs back through advocates or just resign and move to another county. Lawsuits are of no moment to cops as they do not pay. The taxpayers do. Essentially, the people who are abused by cops are paying for that pleasure and because of no accountability or transparency, this will continue forever.
The use of force question is NOT objectively reasonable or based on that at all, it is however based on the reasobale perception of an OFFICER, making puely subjective. it was objective it would be Would ANYONE feel this was a use of force situation, and not just a cop....therfore the question is in no way objective but extremely subjective
Phil drops some serious knowledge on this one! Make sure you share the video and let’s help everyone get better 👊🏼.
Thanks for having me on, Gents. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I look forward to doing it again.

I do remember that incident.
@@shotsfiredpodcast50 that video literally terrified me as a citizen..let alone as a LEO, that would be a cool breakdown video!!! Love the content!!!!
So when an Ohio Police officer Kicks a complying man in the face, he was "guiding the citizens face to bottom of the officers foot?"
That’s funny as hell !!!! But so sad and true

I’m really curious what the counselor had to say about the First Amendment claim. Why did he shy away from discussing
Phil give examples of what to use instead of guiding
