    Clever and worthwhile even though it's not technically a syphon (doesn't rely on the weight of water already syphoned to pull more above [if only briefly] the level of its container) and it's directed at the furtherance of an inefficient irrigation method.

    As someone mentioned already,flooding irrigation is one of the worst of its kind.Wasting of water,destroying soil,microbes,several nutrients leaching,increasing risk of plant infection by different disease,and so on and on.But if they do it like this ,i guess they know their reasons.Best way that not have any of flaws mentioned above ,plus tons of more benefits is ofc one and only, sub irrigation.

    • @thoughtfox2409

      I think the biggest reason they do this is because the fields in australia are just to big to set up somthing else. In europe you can set up a drip irrigation easy, but in australia that would be just to much effort

      You are a fucking moron. Flood irrigation is the only viable option for southwest areas. Sprinklers evaporate before the soil gets a goddamned drop.

    • @MeOnGMail
      @MeOnGMail 5 років тому +3

      Not always. If it is a hot dry climate, then sprinklers can evaporate to much water. ALso if you have crops with a deep root then and your soil is not rocky below then flooding can water crops longer.

    A lot of positive reactions. I find this solution not very good. In Holland we have small pipes that deliver the exact amount of water to the roots of the plant. This is just flooding your field. A lot of water just drains into the underground. I guess in Australia water household is a a problem as well, just like in the netherlands (which has a very wet climate).

    Plants free of water deficit events more efficiently absorb available plant nutrients enabling plants to achieve their maximum genetic potential. SWRT membranes installed below plant root systems retain water where it falls, providing continuous delivery of
    drought-free periods up to 3 times longer than intensely irrigated control sands without root zone water retention membranes (Guber et al, 2016).

  • @Drakey_Fenix
    @Drakey_Fenix 6 років тому +1

    Irrigation done on massive scales have been extremely harsh towards the environment. One of the largest lakes in the world (Aral sea) is completely gone due to irrigation of water for cotton farms. I can't wrap my head around why people still decide to do this stuff even when there is full on proof that this shit fucks up so much stuff. But ofcourse that doesn't matter to these people. All that they have in their head is $$$. Everything else means less to these people.
