Caster sugar is a finer grain than granulated sugar(every day sugar) but not as fine as powdered sugar. You can use granulated sugar instead or if you can be bothered you can process granulated sugar a bit to make it yourself.
“You either succeed or you learn” Love that! The best thing about you is that you just do things and don’t get hung up on perfectionism! Love your videos!
Our stores were wiped out of Christmas “stuff” before the holiday! However, I picked up what I would consider to be the deal of all deals at Costco. They had a baking nut box with slivered almonds, walnuts and pecans. Box was over 4lbs. For $4.97!! I couldn’t buy one of those bags for anywhere near that cost let alone 3!
Right they haven't been stocking holiday stuff very much in my area. At least certain stores I have gone to its like the holiday factory stopped making stuff so they are just sending what they have
I was never one to watch the UA-cam with this store walk through but with covid I started to decide if I want to risk the trip. Things I saw 8n November didn't get to my store or maybe just sold fast and restocked very close to Christmas. But many trips everything was picked over.
Ditto! I usually enjoy buying charisma cards, wrapping paper, etc for the next year at a silly cheap price soon after Christmas, but not this year. I'm in a vulnerable group so saving a few pounds is not worth ending up in hospital!
Candy cane ribbon for the banister! Both ribbons are gorgeous. This year on LoveMeg’s channel she did some great tutorials on how to add ribbon to Christmas trees. The snowflake ribbon will be perfect for that.
There is a grocery store in PA called Weis Markets and it is the best place to buy chocolate the day after a holiday. It’s a smaller local kind of store. Basically at 7 am the next day everything’s less than $2 or less (even big bags of the “good stuff”) and it’s sold out by noon!
I’m in the UK and have that same Mary Berry book. Caster sugar is just your normal white granulated sugar but in a finer granule. I don’t bother using it to be honest and just use my normal white sugar, works fine xx
I say, the stripes go on the railing and the snowflakes go on the tree 🙂 I bought a new tree this year! Original price $109 and I paid $65....not the greatest deal but I'll take what I can get!
It depends, is there glitter on the star ribbon? If so I would keep it to the tree with all the other glitter ornaments, and put the stripe on the banister.
Decoration idea for next year. On the stairwell wall behind the sofa create a forest of the wooden trees on a temporary shelf. You could take different prices of the Christmas ribbons or paper, apply them to additional wood or cardboard trees. On the shelf you could also display some snow baby figurines or maybe some other little holiday items. In boyscouts my son made me one of hose little trees with little wholes in it for miniature Christmas lights and ornaments. That was my apartment size Christmas tree for many years. Hope you have fun making something like this.
I didn't shop for anything on sale this year, didn't really need anything. Ribbons are perfect! Love the ones you picked out. We have used ribbon instead of garland for many years now. Our vet recommended that after an incident with one of our pets. Best change we ever did for Christmas, safer for the animals and it looks, I think, so much prettier.
Castor Sugar - white super fine sugar, that disolves faster than regular sugar but is used in the same quantities. Regular white sugar can be used with no problems. Love your hair - looks great! Best wishes for 2021 xx
That red and white bucket is good for Christmas decor, obviously. It can also work for Valentines Day. If you put it with blue, it can work for patriotic holidays as well...think Stars and Stripes.
My name is Melissa and I love to clearance shop too!! We went first thing in the morning. Got lots of razor sets, shampoo and conditioner sets, food gift sets and a bunch of Walmart’s holiday food and coffees!!
HAHA! Dave harasses you about your cookbook collection and you promise to declutter then here come more cookbooks! I love it :) and YES to the Mary Berry!!!
We celebrate Hanukkah, and when I went to TJ Maxx after the Holiday found a gorgeous heavy silver Menorah (Hannukah candle holder.) My local library is wonderful, and has kept me in books for the entire pandemic. I just picked up Marie Kondo's Spark Joy for my New Year decluttering, and the Woman's Day Cookbook which is my go to forever. I also took out a Bread Machine book which I used to have and will be starting with that again.
Based upon the decorating updates y'all have done this year and all the home furnishings and decor recently purchased, I would say that your decorating style veers towards Scandinavian. Thanks for all your wonderful content! Happy New Year!
I'm getting some of the micro fleece blankets when I get into town(if they have any left) and keep them for sewing robes and fuzzy pj/ lounge pants for next winter.
Caster sugar is like regular sugar with smaller grains. You can briefly pulse normal white sugar in a blender or coffee grinder if you can't find any. Don't grind it for too long otherwise you'll end up with icing sugar/powdered sugar.
My parents would never buy sugary cereal, but when we went camping they'd buy those variety packs with the little boxes, and I was so excited to eat fruit loops, honeycomb, etc etc! That made camping that much more fun. Now that I am grown up I don't really eat cereal, but I might have muesli or granola in yogurt.
Ohhhh great idea for using neutral Christmas wrapping for other occasion wrapping! I'm headed out tomorrow to shop and I'll be looking at wrapping paper. I'll be stocking up on chocolate of course too lol.
The Xmas ribbon is a score, for sure. It's so versatile -- wrap presents, decorate the tree, trim DIY projects, and my fave way to use it this year was the classic bow on gift baskets that I made -- so cute!
Yeah i noticed that! Normally we have a lot of shower sets left from like axe and dove but this year all we really had left in that genre was perfume sets and small bath/body sets.
I put ribbon around my tree. It is shimmery white so it is reminiscent of snow without being a total mess like flocking or tinsel. It also has a big bonus of coving lots of space, so if you are just starting out in life (Hello Newlyweds!) it will help you have a nice looking tree without breaking the bank.
Caster sugar in the UK is just white sugar, slightly finer than granulated sugar. Not powdered sugar, which we call icing sugar. It’s white sugar that you’d put in a cup of tea or coffee. When I’m out of caster sugar, I just use granulated/white sugar.
Omg! I have that Mary Berry cookbook (got it as a Christmas gift, ha!) and it is incredible! $5 is a steal. And I love that red and white bucket. I think it would be great for a tree - minimal decorations required because it is already colorful - and I bet you could also repurpose it over the Fourth - red and white and then the handles look kind of nautical?!
I saw your 2019 haul and was super excited to go out and get clearance stuff this year. Grabbed a few gift boxes of secret, garnier, and dove plus some extra candy. Thanks for all your videos and knowledge!
I didn't do any shopping, just laid around and read a book and watched t.v. with the family. I love your ribbon idea. A few years ago, I bought purple ribbon to use instead of garland, it was a really fun change.
Love the air popper story. Remind me of a Time long ago. My air popper died. I didn't have easy access to the thrift stores at that time. A friend had thrown me a hair dryer. That burned her hair even on the lowest setting. I did a little bit of fabricating. And joined the output of the hair dryer, to the business end of the hot air popper. On medium, it would make an excellent batch of popcorn. I used that for about 14 years.
For the first time, I went shopping the day after for 50% off Christmas! Mom and I built up a gift stockpile to pull from throughout the upcoming year. I figured if people do it with emergency food, why not an emergency gift selection! With it, we should have just about every birthday, Christmas gift, etc covered! Our Walmart had TONS of bath sets and hygiene products left. 😍
I commend your restraint. So many clearance shoppers turn into hoarders. The ribbons are beautiful and versatile. The decor selections are very simple yet classy. Btw I really like your hair with the light waves. Hope you and the fam. have HAPPY NEW YEAR!! 😁
With that candy cane bucket, I would make a Christmas greens/branch arrangement (you can find examples on Pinterest) or put a smaller Christmas tree in it. I LOVE those gnomes you found! Great finds!
I’m going to try to go today. I’m always buying wrapping paper even though I don’t need it. I’m still using a roll that I bought 7 years ago!! I like a variety of paper under the tree
Caster sugar is regular sugar, icing sugar is powdered sugar. Glace cherries are candied cherry like in fruit cake. I believe stem ginger is candied ginger in syrup.
You look radiant ! Thank you for talking about books lately, you motivated me to pick up reading again ! I was such a reader when I was little, I don't where that went... Thank you again !
I love doing the boxing day sales... I was so happy to score the nightmare before Christmas fabric with 75% off... plus our local sallies had 50% off everything in store...
I’m South African living in the US. I use C & H Professional Bakers sugar, which I buy at my local Meijer store. I also get it from our bulk store. You can also run regular sugar through a food processor to see if it brings it finer. Dissolves easier and cane sugar has a different taste to sugar beet sugar.
I work for the largest library system in my state. We are a county system. Folks from out of my system come in and get an annual fee card. We offer this to customers who are from other counties (many like yours that have little to no catalog of digital books). It's pricey $75 dollars, but that covers the whole household for a year and most folks who use it do so becuase it's cheaper than buying even second hand items, and bonus that it gives them access to all our databases and physical items as well. So all that to say, check the largest system closest to you and see what their out of service area fees are. (some like ours even offer free student cards to those who attend school in our service area or some also offer cards to those who can verify they work in the service area) There is also the chance that another system may offer a reciprical card and that can get you access to their catalog as well.
I work for one of my state's academic libraries but was going to suggest that she check out her state library's services. You beat me to it with much better info. Thank you for the services you provide to the public.
@@andreathorne1219 The State DOL is a great resource. Since the majority of our counties are rural they can access a ton of recources that the DOL offers. I don't think ours has digital but her's may. I love that you work Academic. I looked at that really seriously before I went to a public system. I still think that I may head back that way one of these days (maybe when I retire and want to go parttime). I love academic libraries.
I think the bucket at 7:50 would look really cool with the off-cut branches from evergreens in it. Sort of like a big rustic vase. If it isn't water tight, cut a gallon milk jug in half, fill with water and put your branches in that. Wanna get fancy, put on some lights and a bit of ribbon. You've got ribbon, right?
I took you idea of after christmas shopping and stocked up my gift closet (which I now have because of you), shopped for teacher gifts, co worker gifts, stuffed animals that had nothing to do with christmad but perfect for Valentine's Day and Easter baskets and gifts for next year!!!! Thank you!!!
For many libraries, you can buy a yearly subscription for not a lot of money. Brooklyn Public Library in NYC charges $50 for non-residents. I get tons of options for audiobooks, although the wait time for the most popular books can get long.
You can put regular popcorn in a brown paper lunch bag and put it in your microwave. You don't have to add anything else! Way better than store bought microwave popcorn!
Do you put oil in it when you use it? I just got one and am trying to figure out how to use it. I thought popping it dry would work, but I'm getting a lot of unpopped kernels.
I loved the nativity scene! I like to shop the grocery floral department for good deals on plants with Christmas decorations. Just remove the decorations and you have a nice plant! I bought two small live trees that I’ll be putting in my garden. I get ribbon, gift wrap and bags, party supplies, personal items and great books at our Dollar Tree year round. 🥰
I like the candy cane ribbon for the railing because it will make it look like a candy cane and the snowflake ribbon for the tree 🌲 We are super lucky that we can reserve books and pick them up in library or at the curb. Plus we have an amazing app but some have 10-12 week waits still.
The star ribbon should be on your tree. The stripes on the banister. The sugar is a fine granulated sugar. I didn't get to shop the after Christmas sales because I had to travel home....but I did start planning next year's Christmas gifts....I'm thinking of learning to sew and quilt!!
Snowflake for the tree and candy cane for the railing. Christmas clearance shopping. I got a bath bomb set for myself. My daughter picked 2 body care sets. Got my son 2 colognes. New tree skirts and some cute simple stone like ornaments for the tree. Oh and I bought some of the big stuffed animals for my niece’s birthday in March. Somehow unicorns are holiday animals? Lol
The candy cane for your banister and the red snowflake/stars for your tree! I can't wait to see how they look!!! Great shopping trip! Thanks for sharing! P.S. I think castor sugar is regular granulated sugar or maybe fine granuated sugar. P.P.S I'm kinda old (just turned 67) and had my hip replaced in October so I didn't get out to shop or even really decorate this year. 2020 has been a glumpy year! 😝 Praying that 2021 is much better for all of us!!! Happy New Year!!!
I'm sure another Brit has already commented but caster sugar is superfine sugar. Unless it's something where you really require a perfectly smooth texture (meringue comes to mind), I will often sub out regular granulated sugar if I don't have any caster in the house.
I'd put the snowflake one on the tree and the candy came stripe one on the banister. The snowflake has some sparkle that would look good with the tree lights.
I love your attitude! ❤ Snowflake ribbon on the tree and the striped one on the stairs - I think that would look amazing. Also, the snowflake one might be to wide for the stairs.
I got wrapping paper. We just about ran out this year so I needed some and wanted to go while there were still some fun character prints for my small children. I got my husband a heated shiatsu neck massager that was part of the Christmas clearance for his birthday. I got some winter/Christmas themed press on nails, small gift boxes (we had the standard size, I needed small ones). I bought a bunch of dog toys for our puppy, some cat toys and a cat tunnel for our kitten. Got a reusable Christmas tree soap dispenser to use. Got some different candy and some fruit snacks. Also got myself a handful of hand creams. Oh and some plain white tissue paper. I believe that's it. This was spread out purchases between Walmart, Target, Dollar Tree, and Big Lots.
I got wrapping paper as well 😋 The oatmeal cookie recipe-with craisins and white choc chips that you shared is delicious!!!!!!!!!! So, thanks! Happy New Year! 🌲🌲
Those gift sets are awesome! I think I'll get my mom a gift set if they still have them at Walmart. The Walmart peppermint bark k-cups are great too. I stock up on those when they go half price. Holiday food is fantastic, especially the candy and cookies! Time to stock up!
It’s funny you say the presto popper doesn’t work very well, my grandma LOVES hers she makes like 25 gallons of caramel corn at a time year round, she’s a popcorn monster lol
I went on the 27th to c what I could find. I usually do the shampoo and toothbrush sets but I didnt need to this year. I love buying xmas kitchen stuff! There was so much baking stuff at my walmart I'm stocked up for a while now. I got bath bombs and face masks for kids thru out the year when they need it. Thanks for the video! I love watching ur videos I love to find sales on anything when I walk in to a store. Shannon
I love that nativity! So simple, yet beautiful. I tend to collect nativity sets. I think I have about 5 sets and then other depictions such as single mother and child, pictures and ornaments. ‘Tis the reason😊
My library is open, but not to walk through traffic. They do curbside pick up, which is where you sit in the parking lot, text them that you’re there for what, and they’ll bring your item out to you.
Caster sugar is a finer grain than granulated sugar(every day sugar) but not as fine as powdered sugar. You can use granulated sugar instead or if you can be bothered you can process granulated sugar a bit to make it yourself.

I picked up ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! Until the pandemic is over I am on a LOW spend journey.. but I sure do enjoy seeing what others are buying.
I agree. There is nothing I need and be out with so many people shopping.
Absolutely. Also, bargain shopping takes time to peruse and sift through stuff. That's too much time spent lounging around in others' covid cloud.
Ditto! I usually enjoy buying charisma cards, wrapping paper, etc for the next year at a silly cheap price soon after Christmas, but not this year. I'm in a vulnerable group so saving a few pounds is not worth ending up in hospital!
You can use the national library to check out digital books.
Store your wrapping paper in the Christmas tin from the thrift store, in the back of the closet.
Candy cane ribbon for the banister! Both ribbons are gorgeous. This year on LoveMeg’s channel she did some great tutorials on how to add ribbon to Christmas trees. The snowflake ribbon will be perfect for that.
This was on google.
In the USA castor sugar is often called superfine sugar, bakers sugar or bar sugar.
Sending love from England 🇬🇧❤️
Gillian Coleman hi honey I’m from Yorkshire! I moved to New York in 1996.
From England as well
England here too 🖐
Me as well hello from east Yorkshire
Hi all. I'm from Hertfordshire

Stripe for railing and the other for the tree. I too love red and white for Christmas. Good options, thanks for sharing with us!
I’m in the UK and have that same Mary Berry book. Caster sugar is just your normal white granulated sugar but in a finer granule. I don’t bother using it to be honest and just use my normal white sugar, works fine xx
I have noticed the granulated sugar in the States is more finely ground than the sugar overseas anyway, so you could probably just use what you have.
I say, the stripes go on the railing and the snowflakes go on the tree 🙂 I bought a new tree this year! Original price $109 and I paid $65....not the greatest deal but I'll take what I can get!
After Christmas shopping is my favorite! 10x better than Black Friday! A family tradition I will never end!
That Presto popper is AMAZING! I have had mine for at least 8 years and still going strong. Avid popcorn fanatic. Hopefully you like it!
Why do I love watching people save money? Love me some clearance and sales hauls!
Something I’ve seen that is fun with ribbon - use both. Put them together & when you twist around the bannister you get to see each.
Star ribbon on the tree. Candy cane stripe on the banister. That’s how I would do it.
It depends, is there glitter on the star ribbon? If so I would keep it to the tree with all the other glitter ornaments, and put the stripe on the banister.
The candycane one would look great on the tree! I use burlap ribbon on mine for a woodsy look. 🎄
Great haul, candy cane wrap on the banister, snow flakes on the tree. The trees on the buffet/sideboard, YES!! Your hair is darling.
For sure the snowflake one around the banister. That is beautiful ribbon.
I'm getting some of the micro fleece blankets when I get into town(if they have any left) and keep them for sewing robes and fuzzy pj/ lounge pants for next winter.

Last year, I bought a Lindor chocolate advent calendar for about $4 after Christmas. I used it as a countdown to my vacation in February!
My parents would never buy sugary cereal, but when we went camping they'd buy those variety packs with the little boxes, and I was so excited to eat fruit loops, honeycomb, etc etc! sugar that is ground to a consistency between granulated and powdered sugar in coarseness

Loooove that bucket! With some blue ribbon/accents it would work really well for 4th of July too!
I like the candy cane for your banister and the snowflake for your tree. Very pretty!

I buy alot of the gift sets for Easter Baskets and future gifts. I love doing it this way
Pool noodle candy cane (push cloth hanger inside noodle & bend to form candy cane) then wrap around with the ribbon. Great for outdoor!
I like the idea of the star ribbon on your tree and the candy cane ribbon on your banister. Love your hair.
You can put regular popcorn in a brown paper lunch bag and put it in your microwave. You don't have to add anything else! Way better than store bought microwave popcorn!
A silicone microwave popper is the best!! It’s small, and air pops in the microwave

Caster sugar is what we use for baking. Just use whatever sugar you use.
I like the candy cane ribbon for the railing because it will make it look like a candy cane and the snowflake ribbon for the tree 🌲 We are super lucky that we can reserve books and pick them up in library or at the curb. Plus we have an amazing app but some have 10-12 week waits still.
Caster sugar is between granulated and powdered sugar. I love Mary berry’s cookbooks. Stay safe and god bless xx
Lol
love the look of ribbon encircling a tree and pushing small sections of the ribbon in between the branches if that makes sense
I looked it up. Caster sugar is also called superfine sugar. Normally used in the UK, it is ground somewhere between granulated and powdered.
Can also be labeled as "sanding sugar"
Yup. It's used in baking as it is easier to cream into the mixture than granulated sugar.
You can make it by putting regular sugar in the food processor.
Americans don’t have caster sugar?
Spot on 🙂
I'd put the snowflake one on the tree and the candy came stripe one on the banister. The snowflake has some sparkle that would look good with the tree lights.
I love your attitude! ❤
Snowflake ribbon on the tree and the striped one on the stairs - I think that would look amazing. Also, the snowflake one might be to wide for the stairs.
The snowflake on the banister and other one on the tree. LOVE your hair!
Use the stripped bucket for wrapping paper. Great buys. . . jealous!!
Love the hair do!!! Looking beautiful!!
Caster sugar is a finer grade of regular white sugar, you can use regular white sugar but it will tak a smidge longer to mix in
I got wrapping paper.
I got wrapping paper as well 😋
The oatmeal cookie recipe-with craisins and white choc chips that you shared is delicious!!!!!!!!!! So, thanks! Happy New Year! 🌲🌲
LOVE all your ribbon. You can’t beat wired ribbon.
Love using ribbon make sure you get enough ribbon to do your banisters it uses more then you think have also used the bead ropes for trees too
Those gift sets are awesome!
I love mine too. Mine is a bit different the turning arms are straight not wavy. It is so good popped with Coconut Oil.
I totally bought my weight in paper yesterday---and holiday cereal!!! we are twins!

Use the stripe bucket to organize your wrapping paper rolls.
I love that nativity! So simple, yet beautiful. I tend to collect nativity sets. I think I have about 5 sets and then other depictions such as single mother and child, pictures and ornaments. ‘Tis the reason😊
The ribbon could be great as bows all over the Christmas tree!
My library is open, but not to walk through traffic. They do curbside pick up, which is where you sit in the parking lot, text them that you’re there for what, and they’ll bring your item out to you.
