- On 11 June 1987, Diane Julie Abbott became the UK's first Black woman to be elected as a Member of Parliament. ITN's cameras in Hackney Town Hall filmed as Ms Abbott thanked her campaign staff and supporters and promised to defend the interests of her constituents, calling her election a "victory for socialism". The following morning, outside the Houses of Parliament, the 33 year-old MP was interviewed alongside Paddy Ashdown MP of the SDP-Liberal Alliance. She acknowledged the symbolic value of her election and reiterated her commitment to defending her constituents against what she called the "horrific things" facing them under Conservative Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
Diane Abbott has been re-admitted to the Labour Party, after being suspended last year for saying that Jewish, Irish and Traveller people do not face racism "all their lives". It remains unclear whether the MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington will be able to run as a Labour candidate in the upcoming General Election. Abbott herself said she has been barred from doing so, while this afternoon Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said no decision had yet been taken on the matter.

I do like this trend of uploading clips relevant to today's political events!
Not Diane's biggest fan, but it should be up to local Labour members to choose who they want as their candidate - a boss pushing someone out of their job to give it to his chum is lousy.
On the contrary, there has to be some party discipline in any party. A racist traitor MP would reflect badly on Labour.
Monumental and hopeful and look how Labour have now treated her.
A historic moment - what a contrast to this week's shabby treatment of diane abbott 😢.
Paddy Ashdown would have been in the midst of his affair in '87 that later came to light in '92 and earned him the name "Paddy Pantsdown"
Top shagger
She was so lucid here, for the last 10 years she's appeared very slow and confused which has not helped her public image.
Diane is popular with her own constituents where is her future now is it in starmers CABINET or on the back benches being a threat
Her son tried to eat a police officer....
she said it "victory for socialism"
I think we've all been there.
While she was swallowing Corbyn.
@@MichaelBosley😂👏🏼👏🏼
What went wrong?
leftism
Er....racism
She’s as thick as mince.
She's now doing what she does best...alienate people, be completely narcissistic and help the Tories 👏👏👏
Starmer, Mandelson, Campbell et al did more to enable the Tories than Abbott ever did.
Clearly you have no idea what a Narcissist is. Smh
And you are nit picking, a trait of Narc.
She was cool af back then but she hasn’t exactly aged like a fine wine
Have you? 🤔
@@LeighRichards27 Yes, I’m becoming more handsome by the day, and my maths is improving too
People age! She is not a young woman any more. What's that got to do with politics any way!?
Years later she’d go viral for her appalling math skills and stepping out the house in two different shoes. 😂
Irrelevant, nit picking, Dark triad trait. Who really hurt you?
Odd shoes and both worn on the wrong foot.
I'm a Tory voter but 'Sir boring!' definitely gets my vote! I'm LOVING all the woke left-wingers frothing at the mouth because he wants rid of useless Abbott and racist Shaheen and is welcoming hard-right Tory MPs to the fold! By 4th July, Suella would have likely joined the Labour gang hahahaha! Good on you Sir London based multimillionaire Keir, man of the people! 🤣🗣🍼
What a historic mistake but this was umpythree years ago
The day a racist entered the House of Commons.
Liar 🤥 She is not racist. But you seem to support shutting down conversation about Racism.
She's not the only racist.
@@chriswatson3464 she’s the best at it though.
The most shocking part is that it was as recently as 1987. Don’t like her politics, but like her personally. Will be sure to read her book.
