Hey Peter & Stan, found this old video of yours. Your ranking is close to mine. For the record mine are: 1. Machine Head 2. Burn 3. Come Taste The Band 4. In Rock 5. Stormbringer HM: Fireball Your comment about the dry sound of "Machine Head" was interesting. I assume you're talking about the Australian stereo pressing? Since around 1973/4 I'd only ever owned & heard the Australian SQ version, which I discovered later, had a couple of different versions (of Maybe I'm A Leo & Lazy) to the stereo which I discovered when I bought the CD version in the late 80's. This explains why they played Lazy differently on "Made In Japan". I bought an Aussie stereo pressing last year and I was very surprised and disappointed by its sound. Compared to the SQ pressing, the stereo press sounded flat and a tad lifeless. It feels like the band's playing behind a closed door or had a tarp thrown over it. There's an album waiting to burst out. The SQ has a wider sound stage, more dynamic sound, Gillan's vocals are centred in the mix. There's also more oomph in the bass on the SQ where it's lifeless on the stereo pressing. I have the new remix LP/CD boxed set on pre-order so I await its arrival. I'd be interested in your thoughts on the sound of MH. Cheers mate.
Made in Japan will always be my favorite, but my studio ranking would be: 1. Deep Purple in Rock 2. Fireball 3. Purpendicular 4. Machine Head 5. Who Do We Think We Are
My top five (in no particular order): In Rock, Machine Head, Burn, Stormbringer and a tie for Perfect Strangers / CTTB. I prefer Mk 3 to Mk 2 and I'm happy both of you picked some from this period!
Thanks for the subscription! I have returned the favour, not merely out of politeness but because....man - SO many cool vids I cannot wait to jump into! Wonderful taste! Much love from Scotland
Some here are overating Perfect Strangers. I like it too, great comeback album, but considering repertoire and consistency it doesn't beat any Mark 2-3 with the exception of Come Taste The Band. My Top 5: 1 In Rock 2 Machine Head 3 Fireball 4 Who Do We Think... 5 Burn
Ranking my selection. ①In rock ②Come taste the band ③Stormbringer ④Burn ⑤Slaves and masters including live album version ①Made in Japan ②Made in Europe ③Live in long beach 71 ④In rock ⑤Come taste the band DP is BEST live band‼️
@@RockDaydreamNation yeah book was my introduction to purple then that lp got me into warhorse mark 1 was great but mark 2 they got heavier i love the proto speed metal of higjway star
Is there a better singer than Glenn Hughes on the planet? The guy is 70 and still a phenomenal vocalist. I love most Purple albums, but this is my top 5 #1 In Rock Machine Head Who Do We Think We Are (so underrated imo) House of Blue Light Deep Purple
This is really tough. They are 1 of my top 5 Bands, Have all the Albums on Cassette and Vinyl. Just listened to their 1rst 3 albums in a row. You can hear Ritchie`s greatness starting to break through. Burn and Stormbringer are probably 1-2
I would put Burn and Stormbringer on 1 and 2. Don‘t care for the other albums that much because I dislike Ian Gillan‘s voice and singing style but some Mark II songs and the playing are phenomenal, especially by Richie, Jon and Ian Paice.
Where you are from man? UK, New Zealand? Ireland? South Africa? Sorry , but i didnt recognize your english accent...by the way...thank you for subscribe on my channel!! Im apreciate it!
Deep Purple without Blackmore? No, it's not really Deep Purple. Anyone who thinks it is is just wrong. I am not saying the bands without him aren't good. They're just not Deep Purple.
Too original. I can't take a ranking seriously where one list doesn't have In Rock at all, and the second one has it in third place. This is just a demonstration of the tastes of these two people. P.S. The studio version of Strange Kind of Woman is no better than the studio version of Demon's Eye, and No One Came has great lyrics.
my top five are
5.Perfect Strangers
4.Burn
3.Who Do We Think We Are
2.Machine Head
1.Deep Purple In Rock

Love the Burn album, too, but still can‘t stand Mistreated.😄 The slow Blues is not for me.
That’s a contrarian view for sure! (per Mistreated)
1. In Rock
2. Fireball
3. Burn
4. Who Do We Think We Are
5. Machine Head
Thanks for this. Love the Mark II and III...you can't do wrong!

#1 In Rock

Who Do We Think We Are (so underrated imo)
House of Blue Light
Deep Purple
Great choices. Hughes is phenomenal...and that he is bringing us so much music after what he has been through is amazing...
For my taste
1 Perfect Strangers
2 Burn
3 Machine Head
4 Stormbringer
5 House Of Blue Light
Good Stuff...House of the Blue Light is so underrated

Absolutely . Love the Mark 3 Purple...
Burn is probably top 5 for me. Stormbringer I think is a bit weaker. 70-72 is my favourites.
"Fools is okay". Errr, it's Purple's best song. Gillan's best vocal performance.
I would put Burn and Stormbringer on 1 and 2. Don‘t care for the other albums that much because I dislike Ian Gillan‘s voice and singing style but some Mark II songs and the playing are phenomenal, especially by Richie, Jon and Ian Paice.
Absolutely love the Mark 3 DP (although care for DP mK 2 a hell of a lot as well)

Thanks Patrick for your picks!
The changing line ups did not help there career I don’t think the two vocalists work so well.
However they do with Cold Chisel magnificently
Two vocalists work well on record (Mark 3) but live it could be hit or miss...
Machine Head !
It will never leave my top 3 Purple!
