  • Last week over the course of several days, Hurricane Ian passed through Central Florida, impacting as a category 4 storm with winds around 155mph. Due to the unpredictable nature of storms, Brennan and I began preparing several days in advance, with tentative awareness to the status a levity of the situation. This video encompasses a few days of our experience, from our home and resource preparation to experiencing the storm and how we spent our time with the hospitality closures in Orlando that permitted us to ride out the storm at home. After ensuring the storm had passed, we continued a tradition with a quick visit to Disney's Wilderness Lodge, and decided to conclude our experience after not losing power or water and having minimal wind and water damage. Thank you for watching and I'll see you soon!

Ian was projected to hit Pinellas county which is where I grew up and lived for most of my life and where my friends and family are, and I feel so guilty that I'm happy it missed there, because it brought so much destruction down south, I will say I think this will be the last push on banning building on barrier islands, Ian took out everything on those islands, even piping and sewage. I'm so glad you guys prepared well and are safe
Omg I miss Wawa so much 😭 they don't have them in Missouri and it's a crime against my personal humanity
Throwback to quarantine omg 😭 that's when I started watching the channel

Glad you guys stayed safe and had no damage to your home! Arlo is so cute. This made me want to get out our old Gamecube and play beeriokart haha. Brennen has the best ideas! Matt and I have never been here during a significant hurricane before (we were out of town when Irma hit), so we didn't know what to expect with this one. You two are experts! Really enjoyed seeing your perspective and how you handled your preparations. Hopefully someday soon we'll be in a house. I think I would feel safer being in a house rather than our apartment. We have a lot of tall windows that rattle during typical thunderstorms so a hurricane made me a bit nervous.

We watched your video too! I really appreciated how respectful you guys were and how not over-sensationalized your experience was (especially compared to others presumably exploiting their stay for content). Disney really is easily one of the best places to be during something like this, especially with the anticipated work commute you were expecting to have. But just how you showcased the resort experiences like the safety precautions, food preparations, curfews, lines, and resort communication was so interesting to watch! We've always liked going to the Wilderness Lodge (if safety permits) to get a little taste of the hurricane resort experience but we're always self-conscious about being a burden when we're not technically staying there, haha. I grew up in the panhandle so we had pretty frequent hurricanes, so just the general preparations and expectations had gotten somewhat natural. I'm just glad we (somehow) didn't lose power or water. It would have been sorta fun navigating that experience with cooking and entertaining ourselves without power, but I'm also very happy that it didn't come to that! Also you guys bringing Mickey to a resort reallllllly makes us want to bring Arlo to a pet-friendly resort!

Hola Roy & Brennan! Glad to hear you weathered the storm well. I, like you, didn't lose electricity either with only minor damages and some flooding in my county. Overall, ok. Prayers to all those affected by this devastating Hurricane. 🙏 ❤

Farly! 🐈 Glad to see you fully recovered & still as handsome. Very interested in this blog as we were there from England during Ian. Really surprised to see you were allowed into Wilderness Lodge on the Thursday as we were due to move from Boardwalk Villas to Animal Kingdom Lodge that day but were told on that we weren’t allowed to move so the6 made us stay another night at BV. On the Wednesday, people were still in the swimming pool until 5pm. On the Thursday when it brightened up we went for a walk round Boardwalk. The gardeners were sweeping up branches & tons of children, probably aged about 7/8 were scooping up armfuls of leaves & piling them up to help. Friday we moved to AKL & it was a glorious day. Beautiful & sunny and with NO humidity!

Absolutely! We did this back during the quarantine/lockdown time and haven't done it since, so thought we'd bring it back out to occupy ourselves in case we lost power!

    You did pretty good preparing
You two and everyone in Orlando were very very Blessed and lucky that that hurricane Ian shifted a second time away from you and left pretty quick. So you did not see the two feet of rain and the really high wind of like 100 mph. [Your front bushes need a good hair cut sometime soon Roy]
You may want to order for emergencies for Arlo re usable by washing potty pads that older people use on the beds or furniture. You could set the potty pad in the garage for Arlo to use. Better than trying to go outside when it is raining in sheets of water.
