This museum is on my bucket list. Gonna take me a few days to see it all though. Eric is such a passionate person. I like his way of describing artifacts.
Cool video!!! Was in the museum last September and how did I miss this? There are so many amazing artifacts in the museum I feel you’ll always discover something new each time you visit. Looks like I need to go back.
If you haven't been to the Gettysburg National Battlefield Visitor's Center, you must go. It will make you proud to be an American. Same for the Antietam Battlefield. It is a beautiful place, a mysterious place. I am from Washington Co MD, and I would go there all the time. It is special.
Very fascinating indeed. Thanks JD & Erik. If you ever get to the battlefield at Pea Ridge, Arkansas, they have a museum there that is a real time capsule. We, reenactors we’re told that the towns people went out to the battle field after the battle and picked up everything they could find. It was literally a time warp seeing artifacts that looked almost new. I remember a painted drum as well. It was beautiful.
When we visited the museum this past June I became fascinated with this object after I noticed the captions. It's one of those things I would love to just sit on the floor with and examine closely. haha. 🤯
Can't to make it back to Gettysburg again. Waiting for the red wave to hit.... Thanks to JD and Erik for their time and work in keeping history alive.....
This is one of my favorite episodes from you. I never put all of the pieces together until now. I remember The Picker's episode. I also immediately thought of the Geiselman Collection too because I remember those pieces. I bought close to ten items from the auctions back when they were sold by The Horsesoldier - early to mid 2000s. I wish I could have afforded a lot more. You had seconds to minutes to buy most items or they were gone. There is also a DVD about the man and his collection, which I also purchased.
I'm wondering why Mike liked this so much...he loves tramp art...I could see the resemblance...JD your right this piece is spectacular...you can get lost in thinking about every piece for hours. Again can't wait until I get to visit this museum ♥️♥️♥️♥️
I really enjoy your videos..there are a lot of known and unknown battlefields in the west from the Indian conflict..everyone has heard of the Little Bighorn but not many have heard of the battle of Killdeer mtn, wounded knee or even Big hole..might be something to consider
I recall seeing images of this pyramid online at some point maybe a few years before the day I walked into Eriks museum and my jaw hit the floor. Just incredible in so any ways. A E Brooks also made very large pyramids that I think were on display up in Massachusetts. The guy who made the Antietam/South Mountain pyramids name was Reilly. There are two in the old Rosensteel collection and one was in the Scoper House Museum. These are all shown in the book "The Illustrated History of American Civil War Relics". I could be wrong but I think there were a few pyramids in the Chattanooga museum as well.
My Great great great grandfather served in the Pennsylvania 51st Volunteer Infantry, which participated in the battle of Antietam (Although prior to the enlistment of my ancestor). We have a handwritten letter from his older brother discussing his service in the last months of the war. I couldn't be prouder of his service protecting the Union and helping to break the back of the Confederacy in the Appomattox campaign.
Being from around Richmond, most of the relic hunters around here kept all of their artifacts in jars. Both of my great uncles had a partial jar of bullets as well as belt buckles from around the battlefields near Richmond.
Linear formed massed infantry firing from two sides of any given field for the most part. So in essence your regiment was firing at the regiment in front of you.
Eric did you recover anything from the J Kralik collection after he passed away?. James showed me quite a bit of airborne relics from Arnhem. Red british berets and equipment from the airborne crossing of Nimeghan.
Major General Jesse Lee Reno is my 1st cousin 6x removed and it was cool to see his name on this artifact he was killed by friendly fire at the battle of South mountain and is buried at oak Hill cemetery in Washington DC. And here's a cool fact Reno Nevada is named after him.
I don't watch Pickers since they dumped Frank either but years before that they tried to buy some things from my Uncle in Iowa but he refused to sell anything to them.
Why did they get rid of Frank?! He was the best and I thought he was a part owner of the business?? I obviously don’t watch the show anymore but that’s too bad to hear
My Boyfriend and I visited the Gettysburg Museum of history just yesterday. I was impressed by the Museum itself, however is this Museum dedicated to just pieces of metal and wood or to the Veterans of this country??? I asked because my Boyfriend who is a Vietnam Veteran of 2 tours and myself, a OIF Veteran of 4 Tours were pretty much just ignored by the staff even after I brought to the attention of Eric my Boyfriend's Veteran status. I've watched your series for over a year now...but after this....I'm so disappointed, I don't even have further words.
At 5:22 you show a shadow box with a rifle in it while the curator was talking. I believe the label on the shadow box states the Pennsylvania Bucktails. My 2nd great grandfather fought at Gettysburg with the Pennsylvania Bucktails. He survived the battle and the war, and back in the early 60's, when I was maybe 12 years old, I found his gun at a museum while visiting Gettysburg with my parents. I have often wondered what ever happened to that gun, and my limited research has found nothing. Was there a name on the gun?
@@TheHistoryUnderground I went on the Gettyburg Museum website and it is one of their listed artifacts. It belonged to a Cornelious J Smith of the PA 42 which was the 1st Bucktails. My 2nd great grandfather fought with the 149th or 2nd Bucktails. I understand there was a lot of animosity between the 1st and 2nd Bucktails as the 1st Bucktails were told no other regiments would be called the Bucktails. It's actually a very interesting story. I inquired with the museum if there was any way I can track down my grandfathers gun. Thank you for responding!
American pickers is great because of Mike and Frank. I have watched videos of other guys trying to do the same......but there is no chemistry. No magic. No warm, relaxing feeling like you experience watching American Pickers. That is why no other show will reach the same success doing the same or near the same thing. Pawn Stars did well with their show......at the store. Now they are hitting the road....but Rick ain't no Mike Wolfe. He is Too Much Money, Business, and out for himself. He should stay in his own lane.
I was born, raised and lived most of my adult life in Colorado, Then managing businesses in locations from California to Georgia. I bought a home and retired in south-central Georgia, and I'm desperate to know more about the history. It seems no one cares and there are no museums.

I haven't watched American Pickers in a long time. I'm shocked they got rid of Frank since he was 50% of the franchise.
Frank is in a nursing home recovering from a stroke. Before that he had major back surgery.
But pompous Mike fired him right after his back surgery Am no longer watching
