      "Cider will convert naturally to vinegar with time, but manufacturers typically speed up the process by adding a “mother,” which is bacteria from an established vinegar. Once all the alcohol is converted to acid (there’s no measurable alcohol in vinegar), the vinegar is either filtered to remove the cloudy sediment of leftover mother or bottled unfiltered. In the plain tasting, testers could visually identify the unfiltered vinegars by their darker, hazier appearance and small floating particles. While tasters didn’t notice any difference in consistency when tasting filtered and unfiltered products, many thought the unfiltered vinegars were slightly more complex-fruity, floral, and appley-when sampled straight."

      ATK is no different than your run of the mill doctor's office that welcomes Med. Reps selling the latest drug pertaining to that doctor's specialty.
      An in office, catered lunch with high end delicacies - and promises of substantial financial kickbacks is all it takes for every patient to be on that particular drug.
      ATK's "reviews" are nothing more than thinly veiled ads.
      They test a boatload of pots and pans - and only three or four carefully chosen edible supermarket products... while being (literally...) applauded for it, by their "in studio audience", who's made to feel important by being participants in the "testing" process.

      THANK You for responding, and for the clarification.
      However, the reason I commented the way I did, is because it seems that some products (like pots and pans...) so obviously get more airtime in these "ATK Snippets", while (in this case...) ACV was literally treated as if it didn't deserve to be well represented.
      If one item gets a "proper snippet", so should every other item they test at ATK.
      THANKS again for Your reply - enjoy Your weekend!

    Cooks Country cites "cider vinegar" vs "apple cider vinegar" in recipe use for "Hawaiian Mac Salad", tho not a Hawaiian-style, as vinegar it not used locally in mac salad which is why the tangy other "mayo" is not used in actual recipes, tho I understand personal and preferred taste which is why I wonder why "Hawaiian-style" isn't the correct naming, as this recipe calls for directly adding the "cider vinegar", for intended reasons. We tried it and it was not bad, but not local in flavor. We've gone from market to market, to organic corner stores in the city and everyone either says, "never heard of it" or it "doesn't exist". CC has always been good about citing substitutions where needed, and do cite availability for the continental U.S. on Asian markets or local Supermarkets potential range of products, so why the mystery regarding "cider vinegar"? Any help at the unclouding of this would be heartedly appreciated, whole or otherwise. 😃

    • @CynBH

      They only ever talk about the one that was worst, and then either the top two, or the top one and the one that scored right in the middle. If you want to see the full rankings, you have to sign up for their website. To do that costs money. You have to buy something or pay for a subscription.

    • @CynBH
      @CynBH 5 років тому +10

      They're a PBS show, so they don't make a lot of profit from that. Their primary income sources are sales of subscriptions to their website and magazines, and from sales of cookbooks and DVDs.

      Thanks for the clarification.. but I hate when I take the time to look at a review video that just leaves you hanging or leads you on... it gives me a sense of being taken for a ride. So their credibility falters in my book by doing so.

    Buy a bag of apples, slice and dice, put scraps in a bucket (maybe a few good pieces as well), fill with water, cover with breathable fabric, let sit for at least two weeks. Bottle it, and you're done. Best ac vinegar you can have, and it isn't industrial factory flavored crap.

    It figures people/panel prefer sugar over actual health. When it comes to food as medicine, taste is not the paramount indicator: try chewing on a pill and tell me how THAT tastes. Unpasteurized organic apple cider vinegar is true (with the mother or not), and it works in cooking or just sipping.

    • @kareninalabama
      @kareninalabama 5 років тому +3
