Love your first video, Olivia! Can’t wait to see more. I enjoyed your story about how you got into cross stitch. I find it very relaxing too, keeps my hands busy, and calms my mind. I live in Michigan with my husband and dog Cooper. I have two grown daughters. You are the first I’ve seen to enjoy a beer during flosstube, love it.
Haha I do love craft beers, but not nearly as much as I love stitching! I love hearing that cross stitch gives you the same peace and calm that it does for me; what a gift our hobby gives us! Thank you for watching and connecting! ❤
Glad I found your channel, enjoying the videos and all your projects. The name Belfast really refers to the count of linen, Belfast is 32ct, Cashel is 28ct, Edinburgh is 36ct and Newcastle is 40ct.
Loved your 2 nd video. Great haul from your LNS , your SAL is going to be awesome! I’ve seen several others who are working on it and wow soooo pretty ! Look forward to seeing your Stitchy chair, how you stitch your tapestry piece! Until next time happy Stitching . I live in New England and have been here all my life ! Love the seasonal changes and being near my family !
Samantha is the best! Hygge is pronounced like hue-ga! I love her and just watched her latest with her bestie! Fun, fun! I hope you'll meet some needleworkers locally!!
Your SAL is a beautiful piece. Can I offer a suggestion about preparing your fabric. The chart should give you the stitch count for your work. It will say for instance 120 wide by 210 high. To figure out what size you need to cut your fabric. Take 120 and divide by 18 (because you will be stitching two threads of DMC over 2 threads of fabric) 120 divided by 18 is 6.66 inches, take 210 divided by 18 is 11.66 inches. Now add three inches per side (or 6 inches total) to calculate what size to cut your fabric. So, in this case, your cut fabric size will be 6.66 inches rounded up to 7 plus 6 is 13 inches. 11.66 inches rounded up to 12 plus 6 is 18. Cut your fabric in this instance 13 by 18. I always allow 3 inches on each side for framing. You are right to overcast and baste the edges to prevent fraying. Now take a piece of thread and mark the top of your piece. I used to use bobbins, and now am doing floss drops. Using floss drops allows you to have precut threads and they hang directly from the ring. I write the count of fabric and who it is from on my pattern and also the date I start it. Saves looking it up later. I also, keep the name of fabric on unused fabric so you will know later what that is.
What a wonderful first episode. I am with you with crafts being a stress reliever. My problem is I also knit, crochet ,quilt and sew. There is not enough hours in the day! I hope to see more of your episodes.
I hear that! I have too many creative hobbies, and never enough time to do them all. I try to channel what one of my fav flosstubers, Olivia B said one time, that she tries to focus on what she did get to make, rather than all the crafts she didn’t make. I like channeling that kind of thinking when I can 😊 And when I can’t, I just stitch some more! Thank you so much for watching and connecting with me!
I watched both of your videos and have enjoyed. I’m a third generation Texan living in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. I have a Granddaughter named Olivia that we call Livi. Looking forward to more videos.
I love floss away bags, I use snack ziplocks bags. All my projects have like 80 colors though so they go in a photo box with an index card that keeps them standing up. I only put them on rings if it’s less than ten colors
Sooo much easier! I didn’t realize how much time I spent winding and unwinding thread off of my bobbins until I started using the bags. Game changer! Thanks for watching!
Ultrasuede is a great idea! Nix the DMC needles. I had the same issue and was so surprised, as the company is the oldest and you'd think would carry the best!
Hi Liv, Loving your flosstube. Still trying to figure out storing my floss. May try floss away bags, also thinking about floss drops. Have stitched for years, but haven't been very organized. Well basically have been a monogamous stitcher until flosstube. Learning so much through flosstube to make my craft more fun. Absolutely adore needle minders. Never used one until 2023, and already have a small little collection. So fun hearing you describe and enjoy your beers. Happy Stitching. ❤😃 I do a lot of bookmarks as well, will see if I can find the backing you mentioned. Ultra? Love your videos. ❤😃
Thank you so much for watching and connecting! It’s taken me a while to figure out my storage and system, too, and I think I’m still refining it. I would try floss drops, but I worry that the pet hair that’s taken over my home would start to be an issue lol The fabric I’m going to use on my bookmark backs is called ultra suede. Haven’t used it yet though - I’ll make an update video!
Found your channel today. my way through the videos. Loving your videos so far. There is a sal for the quaker already, too. If you also use the #summerbytheshoresal tag you will see lots more of them. That one is done in team of Stitching By The Shore and Steadfast Stitcher. I have been stitching just over 28 years. I do use bobbins for dmc but I use floss drops for all other threads. I like flossaway bags to keep dust off the threads. I do travel a lot for retreats and work conventions. So far tsa hasn't had issue with my tiny scissors. I have a theater history and one play I did a lot was based in Denton. When I hear you say Denton I get the song of the play stuck in my head.😅😂 Nice meeting you. Now to go backwards and comment on video 1 and then watch video 3.😊
You’re too kind, thank you so much for watching and connecting! And the SAL is truly a delight. I’m following lots of Instagram accounts who are participating, and it brings me a little burst of joy whenever I see someone else’s progress. Maybe you’ll find one that does the same for you someday. ❤
Great videos. A natural at it. I use Annie’s Keepers. Have tried everything else. That’s what works for me. My my friend uses Floss Away Bags and loves that system. I learned a lot from Vonna Pfeiffer (Twisted Stitcher). She has a blog and Flosstube. Lots of tutorials. She’s like a pillar to the stitching community and you’ll hear her name mentioned a lot. May I suggest stitching on an evenweave? Feels like linen but the holes are even - much easier to work with in my book. Next time you’re in your LNS check the evenweave a out. Looking forward to your next video.
Thank you for watching and for the recommendations! I’ll have to check those out. I have some evenweave but haven’t tried stitching on it yet. Looks like it’ll be for my next project! ❤
I love the floss away bags too! I also put a bobbin in the bag to put my little left over bits on. 😬 And the rings you put the bags on…you can get a container of 6 2 inch rings at the Dollar Tree for $1.25!
That’s a great suggestion! I’ve got some in my stash just waiting for my next project. I’m looking forward to trying it out. Thank you so much for watching and connecting!
I switched from bobbins to floss bags. At first I liked it but I didn’t find it much faster because it takes time to get in the bags also. I am switching back to bobbins because it is so much easier to look through colors and make a color change when I want. It was taking me to much time making these color stitches with the bags. Love your videos!
Thank you so much for watching and connecting with me! I agree; the flossaway bags aren’t always faster, and for patterns with a lot of color changes, I haven’t found a quick way to store floss and access it. I’m all ears for better solutions. Maybe floss drops? I see a lot of flosstubers who love them. Thanks for watching!
I'm a New Englander and love living here! I tend to gravitate toward the reds, greens, tans but your bouquet was beautiful! I like using floss away bags and also use Amazon bags for my projects. Your intro music is pretty 😊
I’ll have to check them out! So far, the Tulip needles are like butter sliding through my fabric, on every project I’ve tried. They’ve been great! Thank you so much for watching and connecting! ❤
Love your videos! just an FYI if you ever go on a cruise, they do not allow scissors of any shape or size. just last week going through the cruise line's security checkpoint they confiscated my 3" Gingher embroidery scissors that I've had my entire cross stitch career. I was literally in tears. they're fine for TSA and airplanes, but not a cruise ship. I was heartbroken and now tell everyone I know so it doesn't happen to them. I had to chuckle though when you mentioned the nail clippers, because thankfully I had brought a pair of those and they were my scissors for the week!
Oh my gosh, that’s terrible!! I’m so sorry you lost those scissors; I would have bawled. 😢 And yes, we stitchers have to get creative sometimes, don’t we? Thank you for watching!
Good luck on the Sal. Im using 16 count almost same color. Im not good on linen I find my tension isn't good let alone my old tired eyes. I work with q snaps and scroll frames work in hand isn't good for me either. Hey good luck its all about what you love just remember tho if you start to struggle and its no longer enjoyable its ok to stop and restart. Whatever makes it a happy and joyful experience.
Thank you for that reminder! Sometimes I let my goal-focused tendencies take over in a craft that is meant to be just for the joy of making something lovely. And yes, I’m finding the same tension problem on linen. It forces me to be a very careful stitcher! 😂 Thank you so much for reaching out!
I haven’t seen it in PDF, sadly. I did the old “make a copy to mark off my stitches” method, so we’ll see how it goes. I’m definitely spoiled by using a tablet! 😂
Hi Olivia . I enjoyed watching your video. I’m starting the Sal also . I was wondering if you could share the link to your music. I like blue grass and especially like mandolins so I would like to hear it. Thanks😊
Thank you so much for your warm words and connecting! I’d love to see your progress on the SAL; I can’t get enough of those colors! And thank you for your interest in my music! The opening music is the first track on my album, recorded under the name Olivia Justice Countryman. ❤
Hi Olivia. I listened to your music and I like it. I liked Float on down the river because I could hear the mandolin . The Long Stretch of Road is my favorite. 🎶💐🤙
@@marybergman6545 oh my gosh - thank you so much for listening!! I’m glad you liked those; they’re some of my favorites, too. I wrote Long Stretch of Road with a local poet, John Neibuhr, and Float on Down the River is an ode to my marriage and the deep river of love I’ve found with my husband. I’m so honored that you listened!! 🙏
Yes! The needleminders are from catladystitches. I talk a little more about them in my next video (coming tonight, I think!). They are the cutest designs but the magnets aren’t very strong. I keep losing my needles 😕
