- Hop onboard with four-time Rallycross Champion Scott Speed as he takes on the infamous Dragon at Deals Gap on the Tennessee/North Carolina border - also known as America’s most twisted road.
This condensed POV follows the Red Bull athlete as he tackles some of the 318 curves in 11 miles through the breathtaking scenery of the Great Smoky Mountains.

So much better than the redbull vid, no over editing or fake camera shake. Just speedy driving up one of the best roads in the world.

@@anthonyarango8838 I just don't like how they didn't give the camera angles more love and how they made the drone more shaky than it would ever be. There are some awesome parts but it's just a bit too much. It's still a good vid though!
Redbull content is for general public. This one's for us car people. Most people who watch redbull content won't watch over 4min of raw driving. p.s. I like this version more too!..

Big respect for Speed who has raced in so many championships, including F1, but imagine Loeb or Ogier going flat out on that road

Loeb hasn’t raced Speed. But he has races Pastrana. They were the two finalists in Race of Champions one year. Speed has also raced against the Hansen brothers, and Pastrana has raced Johan Kristofferson. They are all too notch. Would Loeb beat Speed’s time? Probably. But you say it like they’re leagues apart. They aren’t.

@@MikeySkywalker in rally stages they probably are leagues apart. Being fast isn't enough, you have to be concentrated on the co-driver and having faith to your skills to get the maximum. Raikkonen was fast as a rally driver but couldn't drive while listening the notes from the co-driver.
@@maza19 Pastrana has raced Loeb and they both had co-drivers. Actually come to think of it, Pastrana didn't have a co-driver because his got hurt. Loeb had one and they both made the finals. Loeb won. But Loeb is the GOAT. Either him or Seb Ogier. So obviously they're better. But it isn't leagues apart. Hell Pastrana beat McRae with co-drivers. McRae beat Loeb and Ogier.

I love rally with a passion but this is in my backyard (NC). Honestly most people drive this road this fast when no one is looking anyway.

Hauled over that stretch a few times, but never like that. It helps that Bubba isn't coming the other way in his pickup using the entire road too. Great vid.

Come to Greece, From Psaxna, (it's just after Aidipsos Evoia) up until Prokopi. It's just 34km and 41 minutes long according to Google. This is after it was refurbished, also. And mind you, this is our major national road!
So much different than me trying to stay in my lane wondering if around the next turn there is a cop or motorcycle or truck but.... I LOVE that road.
Do the side things that cover the tire keep it clean and warm or is aero?

Go to the Back of the Dragon. It is a far more technical road than the Tail of the Dragon.
Still made from several different film segments, with some parts missing. But SOO much more authentic than the redbull vid.

Not when you are limited by speed, and the law. At his pace its much harder to just stay out of the ditch. You got to figure, go watch an actual rally course run, they dont shoot for perfection and staying in the lines, out of the ditch, they actually race from ditch to ditch to ditch, as that is the fastest route, sideways. This particular road will not allow for that style of driving, so it by itself is another challenge, adjusting your driving style to fit the asphalt.
@@skunkworks__ They knew full well people did it before and will do it well after this. ToD is nothing new. Motorcycle youtubers have been making their living off JUST this road for decades now. Max Wrist comes to mind... does group rides with his fans specifically to cause accidents and wreck people.. then posts it to youtube.. seriously look it up. "max wrist intentionally crashes followers"
What's the outright record for this road?
Its not usually talked about much anymore since media has blown up the popularity (for tourists as well as law enforcement) which makes it harder to get away with, but iirc its somewhere in the sub 9 minute range. Also FYI this video probably only showed about half the road.

I wish they would close that road once a year and do timed runs like Pikes Peak. Then, the fastest car, bike keeps the trophy fr a year..or longer if nobody beats them in following years.
If you could organize enough sponsors and such, It could be a sanctioned event like Pike Peak or Climb to the Clouds. Would take LOTS of money though, and probably a few favors from some people in the states (as ToD spans through more then one state).

@Valley Adventures Well, they no longer allow 18 wheelers on 129, so they found a way around. Why can't the other traffic go around for one weekend a year? I don't think it'll bring interstate commerce to a standstill if they shut it down for a weekend. Hell, Pigeon Forge shuts down the parkway each year for a damn parade! People get used to it!
Why does every video need to have camera changes? All we want is one god dang POV.
Would have been so much more fun if you were in your own lane. I know you had the whole road, but the turns are much harder when you can't cut them.
I feel that way too when flatout in my 90hp ej6 on the hillclimb on the wide road, but in my 120hp dc4 it's more fun going 120mph on a 50mph road than 100mph staying in one lane. Even more so doing 70mph in 25mph zone than 50mph one lane. Scott's sti is 600hp & weights >2K lbs, no room to really wind it out on such road if staying in one lane..
@@roninthereaper5701 The top speed of a 120HP dc4 is 108MPH, so you're full of shit.., unless it's a straight road, going downhill, that is miles long..

I still don't get it. This is America's most dangerous road? This doesn't look any worse than the road through Logan Canyon in Utah, where I'm from. I guess I was just expecting something that looked a bit more treacherous, but this seems pretty normal compared to a lot of mountain roads out west.
It's the way the road curves horizontally, not so much how twisty it is.. combined with bad drivers.
Alot of people say that until they actually get on it.
The thing that makes it dangerous are all the bad drivers on it. There also used to be a time when semi-trucks could drive on it, but they obviously stopped that after one too many times of motorcyclists getting clipped by trailers.
WTF? Going over the yellow one is a direct ticket to Valhalla = this “hero” run is a joke. I’ve driven the Dragon and his approach is hardly a comparison to other video that kept between the mustard and the mayo.

@@bystander1489 pretty sure it ain't a time trial on deals gap. It's just a promotion video on their nitro x rally winning car. Yes you can lower the car stiffen the suspension, but then by that point it is not the rally car that they drive at nitro x anymore. At that point redbull and VSC should have just brought out the airslayer and send it there.

Most twisted american road is less twisted than the average EU road. This is flat.

Show me another 2 lane well paved road this good with no houses, businesses, or side roads for its entire length. That's why the dragon is so good. I haven't seen it anywhere else.

This one has never been a rally stage. It is a public road where locals commute, and other local armature-racers trying to go fast when no one is watching. Professional equipment and driver and road closure made it look what seemed to you as flat.
