- FAMOUS GRAVE TOUR
I finally found the grave site of actress, singer, dancer and comedian Betty Hutton in Desert Memorial Park, in Cathedral City, California, which is located in the greater Palm Springs desert area.
Hutton is buried in the same section as singer Sonny Bono, 1930s leading lady Marian Marsh, TV cowboy Chris Alcaide and TV theme song composer Earle Hagen.
In a way, it was like visiting old friends, but I feel like I got to know each of them just a little bit better, by visiting their final resting places. They may be gone, but they're not forgotten.
If you decide to visit them in person, below is the cemetery address and contact information:
Desert Memorial Park
Address: 31705 da Vall Dr, Cathedral City, CA 92234

I adored Betty Hutton! Loved her hammy performance in The Greatest Show On Earth!
she was great!
@@TheGraveyardChannel indeed she was, Steve!🍀
Back in the 60's we had a pet lamb and we named her Betty Mutton.
I loved Betty Hutton's interview with the host of TCM Robert Osborne right before she passed. Very interesting and somewhat sad life. May she rest in eternal peace.
The interview took place in 2000, she died in 2007.
Thank you for finding Betty Hutton. I adored her. Sonny Bono was only in his early 60's. Such a tragedy.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it!
Loved Betty Hutton. Thank you.
The one and only cemetery we have in my town is so small you can visit every grave in less than a hour. I enjoyed seeing Sonny Bono’s gravesite. And the beat goes on....
That's definitely a small town. Thanks for sharing with us, Sue!
Do I like walking through cemeteries? Yes, I do. It's quiet and peaceful and you get a sense of history.
I love walking in cemeteries! I also enjoy sitting on a bench in a cemetery reading or listening or praying. I’ve done minor research on several tombstones and the history is remarkable
If you have any tombstone stories to share here, please do. I'd love to hear them and I'm sure other viewers would too. Thanks for watching!
Betty Huttons songs are being used once again in TV commercials. She sang like red hot momma.
Me and my husband enjoy walking in the cemetery very peaceful
I used to work at a cemetery back in the 1990's loved the job very interesting reading the manifests to see who was buried there and how they passed the hardest was the baby section 😭
I've liked walking thru cemeteries since I was like 10 years old I made my cousin come too I liked reading the headstones.
Thank you, love cemeteries
Gonna say it again... I dig your videos !
Thanks, Max. I really appreciate it!
I really enjoy your cemetery tours. 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thanks, Ayleen!
So nice that you shared the Alcaide's headstone. Chris and his wife Peri were dear friends of mine for many years. They owned a home on Cerritos St ( a corner house) in Palm Springs which also housed Peri's incredible photograph collection. Of course she had many very special photos of Cher--so interesting that Chris had been married briefly to Cher's mother Georgia prior to Peri who was of Turkish heritage. Peri would enlarge these beautiful celebrity photos and Chris became a master at matting and framing. For many years, Peri had a lovely shop on Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood. That's where I met her and we became friends for about the last 25 years of their lives. Chris and Peri were absolutely lovely people and I miss them. I drive by their former home many times a week and always give a little wave to my old pals.
hi ken, thanks, so much for sharing this personal story with us. i love hearing stories like this. was her shop inside of the french market? there used to be a celebrity photo and memorabilia shop there.
You always do a great Job with your videos. I enjoy them very much and do enjoy going to graveyards. I have been to ones in Nashville and visted Tammy Wynette, George Jones, Keith whitley, Dottie West just a long list. Thanks and keep doing what you do best.
I'm envious! Thanks, Michael!
Another great tour. So many talented people are laid to rest here. You are lucky to live nearby.
Nice to see the grounds of the cemetery where Betty lies. I adore her.
Actually this guy was spot on about Betty Hutton. Except she only appeared in 20 movies between 1942 and 1957. The Fleets In being her first and Spring Reunion being her last. She did a lot of television in the 50s thru the 80s. Her last big appearance on television was probably a nice appearance on Robert Osbornes TCM show in 2000.
As always, great tour. Will never forget Sonny Bono and others that you showed.
Thanks, Almonte!
Background music is a wonderful addition to this one of your cemetery visits. I went exploring in a cemetery near my neighborhood to find the grave site of silent movie star Louise Brooks. Found it !!! Love exploring cemeteries.
Hi Mike, wow, she was a big star. Did you do a video by any chance?
@@TheGraveyardChannel Hi Steve. I only have a photo. I put flowers on her grave. She lived in Rochester, NY in a small apartment during her final years. I might try a video in the future. Couldn't do nice one's like you do.
@@lowercasemike561 That was nice of you to do. Thanks for sharing this about her.
Thank You Steve for sharing 🧵🧶
Many thanks for the vid from Nottingham UK...! Marian Marsh is a distant cousin of mine, lovely cemetery!
Wow, it's always fun to find the grave sites of relatives. I'm so glad you were able to see her grave on my video. Thanks for watching and for sharing that!
Ty for doing the tours i really enjoy ur videos.
Thanks, Greg!
Wow you really covered some of the famous and forgotten in this one.
Very talented lady. Used to watch her movies and TV programs. Thanks for the tour.
Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge about these people. I enjoy watching your videos.
Glad to see Betty Hutton. Hollywood sorta rejected her but I'm glad she's back..Frank's grave surprising because it's so modest.
Sonny also served in Congress
My husband and I go walking through cemeteries.
I can't think of a nicer place to walk :-)
Nice visit
I enjoy these so much.
thanks, lisa!
Good to see you back home in familiar and comforting surroundings. Nothing like being in your own bed again and awaking knowing you're home and don't have to pack and get on the road. Take care.
You're right. I've been to Forest Lawn in the Hollywood Hills and You definitely get Your workout.
it's a good thing i like to walk :-)
Most cemeteries are beautifully landscaped, flowers, peaceful, and an exercising walk through one also is interesting. Makes exercise easier and you can tend to some graves that might need a bit of sprucing up.
They're definitely my favorite places to walk.
very nice video
Good woman. She was treated badly when she replaced Garland in Annie Get Your Gun but I thought she did just fine!!!
I like walking in cemeteries !
I visit cemeteries all the time, too. I recently visited Bobby Van's grave at a Jewish Cemetery right next to Hollywood Forest Lawn. He sure could dance. I love, love, love Glendale Forest Lawn.
How funny. I hadn't heard his name or thought about him in decades and then just the other day I saw someone visit his grave. I remember him, but he died young and like Toni Grant, I didn't watch him a lot. Glad to meet another cemetery explorer. They really are trips to the past and I also always learn something new with each trip. Thank, again, for sharing!
If you are ever depressed or blue, just visit Glendale Forest Lawn. It is just breathtaking. Whomever designed it sure did know what they were doing.
I agree. I go there all the time. I wish it weren't so far away from where I live or I would probably go there every week :-)
STEVE YES I DO LIKE TO GO TOO THE CEMETERY AND WALKED AROUND AND LOOK THAT THOSE BEAUTIFUL GRAVE I ALSO LOVE BETTY HUTTON I ENJOY HER MOVIES MY MOTHER NAME BETTY JO SHE DID NOT LIKE JO. PART I APPRECIATE YOU DOING THESE VIDEOS THANKS AGAIN❤
thanks for sharing, elaine!
Very nice steve
Yes I like this one that you for doing this video
Than, you very much
I truly enjoy your videos. Will you please take a video of Peter Falk's grave? Thank you.
I have visited it. I'm just waiting for the right time to upload it. Thanks for the suggestion, Deanna!
Peace 🙏🌸🌼
good job
Thanks, Paloma!
Always interesting.
One of my favorite Betty Hutton films is Annie Get Your Gun.
Your welcome keep up the good work from Kev
I just found this vlog that you made don’t know how I missed it. I love going through cemeteries although usually I end up going through cemeteries in a wheelchair because I find that most screens are not located on flat ground and I’m walking with crutches. I hope to be able to visitHollywood hills and Glendale sometime this summer or maybe fall once again thank you for a great video. Barb
Those two cemeteries are extremely hilly and difficult to get around, so go with a friend who can help you up the hills.
Thank you very much for the heads up
It's a very nice cemetery
Hi steve i like your video
Betty Hutton and I share the same birthday date. February 26th😊
Happy early birthday, Chizzie!
@@TheGraveyardChannel tyvm👍😊
I do like walking in cemeteries but I don't really care for mausoleums. My inlaws were entombed in a mausoleum and my father-in-law's casket was shoved into a shelf. When my mother-in-law died, her casket went in right behind him and was used to push him further in. So they share a plaque and aren't side by side. Not really a way to leave flowers either.
lovely cemetery not the same here in england
Yours are so much more historic. Thanks for watching from England, Carol!
Going to Palm Desert next week, will visit for sure, it is also not far from in and out burgers!
Yes, two great places to visit while you are here. Enjoy your trip and thanks for watching!
Always a great job Graveyard Guy👍, but my question is , how the hell do you have so much time to visit all these graves, lol, it's amazing 👍
I ask myself the same question :-) I'm semi retired now, so it's my hobby and I tend to get obsesses with my hobbies :-) Thanks, Bruce!
@@TheGraveyardChannel WoW, semi retired, that's awesome, I enjoy and a lot of others your effort, so don't stop, lol👍
You didnt mention Annie Get Your Gun Betty Hutton was great
Oh, right. A classic. Thanks for sharing that!
I like walking in cemeteries while geocaching. Any of the geocaches marked Spirit Quest are in cemeteries. I've found many of them in the area where I live.
for me, searching for graves is like searching for a geocache, and just as difficult to find sometimes :-) thanks for sharing with us, scott!
@@TheGraveyardChannel We have a pet cemetery in our area that had a 3-stage cache that was extremely difficult to find. The first part was number of letters on one sign added to GPS to get to a headstone, Again letters on headstone added to more coordinates, and that gave you the cache coordinates. I probably visited that location 10 or more times before I found it.
Could you do me a big favor? I would love it if the next time you go there, if you could photograph Dr. Toni Grant's crypt. She was my all time favorite talk show host and I was shocked and saddened to find out she passed from "dementia" of all things. She was as sharp as they came.
OMG, I had no idea she was buried there! I used to listen to Dr. Laura on the same radio station in the 1980s. I remember Dr. Toni Grant, but I don't remember listening to her show on a regular basis. Maybe she was on at night, when I didn't listen to radio. Thanks for letting me know that she is here in my favorite cemetery. I will definitely search for her grave soon!
When you do photograph her marker, is there anyway of alerting me? Yes, Dr. Laura followed Dr. Grant. Dr. Grant was on in the late morning/afternoon. I was a "slave" to her show.
I know, those radio shows were so addictive :-) If you subscribe to my channel and click the bell, you will be alerted every time I upload a video. I will do a video of her grave and I will also take a picture of her grave for findagrave.com . Their memorial doesn't have a grave photo yet. I will also send you a message here, in this comment section, once I take the photo and video.

Just found out that Sandra Locke died in November 2017 and is buried in the same cemetery as Marilyn Monroe, at Pierce Brothers Memorial Park and Mortuary. Is it possible that you could add her to the list of celebrities that you visit the next time you visit that cemetery. Thanks for asking for this type of feedback. I think many people would be interested in Ms. Locke due to her relationship with Clint Eastwood.
Hi Almonte, her findagrave.com memorial page says she was cremated and ashes were given to family or friends. Where did you hear that she is in Westwood?
Annette Funicello was cremated
Steve, are you growing a beard?
Everyone had a beard back in the 1970s and they've made a comeback in 2019, but no, I just didn't shave for a day or two :-)
I don’t think her stardom faded, I think she was so heart broken💔
Mash 4077 All Cast Resting Place. With My Best Friend Glen Say Good Luck
Regarding Betty Hutton, I suspect many today wouldn't even know her name if it were not for "Sunset Boulevard," a funny reference is made to her, "students" of this movie will know of what I speak, ironically it would seem that William Holden was in one of "her" movies.
I see Sonny Bono's mother was buried next to him, but his father is buried elsewhere in the Los Angeles area. Both parents outlived Sonny. Guess they were not ski enthusiasts. As for the rest rooms being closed, that is the disadvantage of those big, flat, no upright stones cemeteries. No place to hide behind to answer nature's call.
lol :-)
Betty hutton died the day before my 39th birthday. I was pregnant with my oldest and sonny Bono died. Very sad. Wonder why they wouldn’t have the restrooms open on what would probably be their busiest time to be visited?🤔
Steve did you ever go to the Jimi Hendrix memorial in Washington state ?I think the city is called Renton
Not yet, but definitely high on my list to visit. Probably next year, since this year I'm taking a road trip to the midwest. Not sure my car can handle two long trips in one year :-) Thanks for the suggestion, Mark!
a childhood friend of mine her mother played Nancy (comic stripe Nancy and Sluggo) a TV show back in the 50's that I'm assuming was short lived can't find anything on it?
It's sad that so many of the old shows haven't survived. Sometimes I can't even find a single picture of actors from back in the '50s and '60s. Thanks for sharing, Joshua!
Steve my name is Theresa Ponist
Very simple graves
Good morning, Steve. Have you ever visited Peggy Lipton's grave yet?
she doesn't have one yet. it usually takes 6 months to a year to find out where famous people are laid to rest. but she's on my list. thanks, nadia!
Visiting Gravesites With Steve I found her very progressive, ahead of the time.
Steve What about the cast of the Brady bunch?
i already did one. thanks, angela!
I do
When are you going to visit the graves of the cast of Adam 12?
it's on my list!
Hi Buddy Steve Is Good To See You On You Tube
Is My Favorite Just Like You
Let Force Be With You. And Also Pearl Harbour. And Please Your Last Name Buddy
Thanks Glen, for security reasons and because there’s so much craziness online with scammers and such, I don’t mention my last name on purpose 😊👍
Sorry about the beard comment. Yes I do like walking in cemeteries. It is Soo serine.
They are great places to walk. Thanks, Cynthia!
YOU FORGOT THAT SONNY BONO WAS ALSO A U.S SENATOR
Thanks for mentioning that patriot wolf 🇺🇸👍
Can someone tell me if audrey hepburn was buried?
In Switzerland.
Kreet bis tijm
Please go to Michael Jackson,s resting place I would love to see it cause then I can pay my respects to him love ❤️ Michael
i would love to, but it's private and not open to the public :-(
Do you ever visit Jimmy Stewart's grave? It is shocking how little decorated this superstar's grave is. It is just shameful, and especially at Christmas. People should be tripping over all the decorations on his grave. Instead, his grave is barren 99% of the time.
How about the black actors
Search my channel and you'll find many. Thanks, Roshawn!
