In this video we show you how to install an outboard shock relocation kit from ARCWORXS. This kit is designed to provide the ultimate in serviceability and suspension performance on the 3rd gen Toyota 4runner. This shock relocation kit moves the rear shocks to the outside of the frame rail. By using an eyelet style mount top and bottom serviceability is greatly improved while shock dampening and efficiency is also dramatically increased by mounting the shock perpendicular to the axle. Check out their technology page for more details on what makes this shock mount kit superior. For those with aftermarket link geometries they offer 12” and 14” shock kits that are built to order. Contact them for more details.

I was hoping for a more detailed description of the new handling characteristics like body roll on the road and low & high speed off-road observations. Does it provide more efficient dampening with noticeably better ground contact resulting in better traction? Have you noticed a difference in articulation or does it feel the same?. Thanks guy, great content as usual.
Gotta love all the new shiny bits before they get out through their paces, looks great
Next step is to get them dirty!
Definitely my next mod!
Def a healthy-mod right here
Sicmods! I need these in my life
Thanks for the assist with this kit Chris! We know you have good taste in mods
I can tell this is gnna be gooood!
It’s a nice mod to look into.
Amazing video as always!! Thanks Guys for the great work
Thanks Josh! You’re LBJ conversion kit is next up on our MOD list.
Nice kit and as usual, amazing video!
Solid sauce Dave! We gotta film some SICMODS on your 5th gen next!
Cleanest kit to date! Love it!!
Squeaky clean
Such outboard, much relocation. sicmods bro
Doge you know?
Seany the Sean man always coming in hot with the fire content. I still need to install my outboard shock kit I got from you.
Some might say things are getting serious
Awesome video guys! Thanks for knocking this out! Hope to bring some more new unique products to the market this year!
Thanks for partnering with us with this kit phoenix! I’m stoked to be running your product!
Definitely an innovative idea! Any plans on developing one of these kits for the first Gen Sequoia?
@phoenix black could @timmythetoolman do a walkaround of your rig it looks so good
!!!Sick!!!
Sickest of the sicccccc
Nice. This looks like a solid choice for an outboard shock relocation kit!
Options are out there, this is def a solid contender of simplicity and function
Hi Timmy! I have a rusted out shock mount and am looking at getting my buddy to weld an outboard one. Can i still use the lower shock mount? i am not doing any heavy offroading and don't need more than stock travel.
and if i was to go outboard, what size shock would i need to keep it regular stock ride height?
thanks in advance!
i've followed along a few of your videos and done some self repairs myself but this is a very inTIMidating job for me, and i don't want to waste my buddy's time with his help, welder and lift.
As long as the outboard kit you're using allows for you to use the stock lower mount, I don't see a problem with it. Some outboard kits suggest cutting off the original lower mount and welding on a new one.
Tires don’t run the shock when it articulates?
Depends on your wheel offset.. tire size etc.

Good stuff! Thanks for the shoutout Sean 🍻
SICMODS Jason!
“Timmy tool man SAS install” surrrrrrelyy
Hell yeah man, can't see any reason this wouldn't work on a 1st Gen Sequoia.
Do you worry about smashing the lower shock mounts or pistons on a rock?
The remote reservoir was relocated to the frame, so that won’t be an issue anymore. The bottom of the shock on the other hand could be an issue, but because the bolt comes in from the side, an impact hopefully would only scuff the bottom of the shock. The shock shaft shouldn’t be in harms way anymore than a typical stock setup would be imo.
Hey Guys, I think those lower tabs you welded on the axle were supposed to point upright so better travel for the shock and no cut-off required.
We hear what you’re saying, but after playing around a bit, this is what fit good for our setup. We could have flipped them like we showed having them at the beginning but we would have been too close to the shock bottoming out at full bump so we settled on this setup as it fit up nicer to the flat part of the lower shock mount.
@@TimmyTheToolman Gotcha, thanks for the answer 👍
Nice kit! Have you tested it to see if it rubs when it flexes? Also , would you be interested in a rear steel bumper with spare tire carrier ?
With my tire/wheel combo and offset, I have 1.25” spidertrax spacers. Rubbing wise, no because my bump stops prevent me for going any higher, but if it went a little higher I could be rubbing. I think if I had 1.5” of spacer or a -3/-3.5” backspacing wheel I would be ok.
What do you mean about the rear steel bumper? Are you selling one?
Cruising the mall though haha
The mall is a good testing ground for recent mods
@@TimmyTheToolman gotta test in all the ways
what coils are you running
Wonder how much it would be to sas the front
This is very much a loaded question. To do it right with quality components + time/labor - closing in on $10k
@@TimmyTheToolman if it’s a forever rig would be worth it
Hey what size wheel/tires are you running? I am planning on install the FGP OSR and am thinking about getting new wheels at the same time.
Anyone ever approach you about changing the o rings on the center diff actuator on the GX470? Or the entire actuator itself, usually it's just the rings though.
There's not much for quality videos on the subject and I'm not looking forward to the job.
No, nobody has.
Do you need to run spacers for this setup?
Depending on your wheel offset and tire size, potentially. I have stock wheels with 285’s and 1.25” spidertrax spacers
These mounts were designed to be the most compact system on the market. With 4" backspacing or less you can run up to a 285 tire without rubbing issues. With a 315 or 35 you'll need to step to 3.5" backspacing or less to clear at full articulation. If you're choosing to run spacers you will simply take the backspacing of your wheel, minis the spacer width to get the effective backspacing. So for a stock wheel with 1.25 spacers, you would take 4.5"-1.25" to effectively have 3.25" backspacing. Hope this helps!
@@arcworxs6789 Exactly what I was wondering. Thank you. Can't wait to order some now!
So what about going with a twin shock rear axle while keeping original shock placement and going with a secondary posterior mount to outside frame rail on the rear axle and adjust travel shock length and match shock valving ?
We don't know David. Don't know of anyone that has tried it. If you do, let us know how well it works out.
@@TimmyTheToolman yeah I see now that a lot of people are going to twin shock ifs setups with the shock hoops. I run a pretty heavy overland 3rd gen and if I went with twin non-res I would naturally want to twinshock my rear axle two. Also looks like they make perpendicular weld on Toyota axle shock mounts. I guess you would need these for the outboard shock to pivot with axial flex and arc of axle travel.....
Any performance difference while driving on roads in the mountains
Side to side stability has definitely increased. So, I suppose that could be considered a performance increase? How fast are you driving on these mountain roads? Are the roads you’re driving very curvy and windy?

@@TimmyTheToolman coming back down from bald mt. On pavement is mostly down hill and the 4runner catches speed and the the traction control kicks in going around corners after lift
