I never would have guessed the grapple would do so well at picking up the leaves. I imagine that they were wet and compacted well which helped. Thanks for another great video!
Great video Tim! I don’t have a grapple but I’ve found that if you have a chance to let debris sit in a pile for a week or so before moving them with the forks or in your case the grapple they tend to not fall through as easily. Love the grapple videos! Keep up the great work!
Haha so I was watching the first of the video and I noticed in the background on the wall that you have a chunk of buckets from a grain leg and I thought that was a pretty cool idea to do with old buckets!! Cheers from Ontario Canada 🍻
I liked all the grapple videos. learned a lot glad you talked about the frame and to be mindful of stress weight when you were working on the big leaning tree. I enjoy and watch many of your videos on my tv and that does not give me ability to do the thumbs up or comment, or at least I have not figured out how to do that with the tv. Live in Washington if I you were closer neighbor I would have you and tractor busy around the property using the grapple, the loader to move rock on to bulkhead . Hope your next implement is a box blade, then a wood chipper. Keep the videos coming, thank you for sharing.
Appreciate you comment, Theodore! You can thumbs up easily on my TV at least. There is a 'more' button which allows you to do so, as well as to see the description. Harder to comment without a keyboard. Oh well, you can use your phone for commenting :-) The big screen is definitely the way to go. I notice a LOT more details when I'm watching on TV.
Grapple did well on the leaves. I agree with you not what stacey's thinking was having you put them there but you just did what wanted you to do. God Bless
I was amazed at how well the grapple handled the leaves! Surprised me how well it handled the loose material. I agree with your comment about the dump location. That would not have been my choice at all, but you have to do as the customer wishes. Overall Johnny did a super job! Maybe I should start lobbying my finance committee for a grapple!
The grapple worked better than I would have thought. I'm like you I don't believe I would have put the leaves there. If it turns off dry, they are a fire hazard and when they get wet that's not good for the house. Take care and God bless.
Hey Tim, Steve Bradley here in Newnan Ga. New subscriber. Enjoying your videos and i was amazed how good the grapple picked up leaves. I have a kubota L3301 and picking up a grapple tomorrow from my kubota dealer it is a terra force. I hope its a good one, will be using it for firewood and clean up like you did in the video. I sold enough firewood in one month to pay for it. Yeah thanks I will keep watching.
Tim good job on leaves you are not the only one who thinks of ajustale wrenches as trouble I worked in a a large amble shop for 30 years we all had adjustable s but most did not use them PaK
In my area a grapple and pallet forks would be the most used attachments, moving large bundles of branches is time consuming and exhausting. As for the leaves I have found that TWO hand leaf blowers are better then a single backpack blower and a large tarp to blow them on to, then just drag the tarp to wherever the leaves need to go. Thanks for sharing!
I have a root grapple and I thought about seeing if I can push/sweep leaves across the yard and then pick them up. I think your style is better for picking them up.
You’re right - first thought is the leaves will fall through the cracks. I think it worked because the grapple enabled you to pack together such a large amount of leaves and to compress them tightly, thus eliminating movement of the leaves. Hope that makes sense?
I'll admit I was thinking like you that's going to fall right through there. Surprised me. Great video. I've heard that the air cleaner bracket was failing and when you didn't tighten it up I thought that's not going to work 🤔.
When things break on your tractor, be it a John Deere or a Massey-Ferguson, (or whatever) it's always nice to get personal with it and give it some lovin'!!!! As I said before, that grapple is sweet!!!! And an adjustable, metric or SAE, is the best tool for on the go repairs.
Hey Tim thanks for another great video was wondering do you think if that bracket comes loose again or breaks that you should put some kind of rubber or Springs underneath it to take away the vibration from the engine which seems like what's probably causing the issue
Maybe so. I will likely talk to my local Deere dealer if it comes loose. I checked it after the grapple job (and a snow plowing job here). Still tight.
Wow! I’m actually really surprised how well the grapple retained the leaves.. I would’ve expected it all to just fall through the rakes, but that just shows what I know. I’m actually torn between a 4-in-1 bucket and a grapple as far as what would be more useful for me, but I really do like the Artillian system a lot, especially since I don’t have forks yet either. I feel like the 4-in-1 bucket is a bit more versatile, but the Artillian grapple can grapple more without damaging. I’ll have to talk to upper management about it. We’re also pretty close to getting a deal on a King Kutter brush mower like yours, so I’m excited about that. Good point on the fittings, by the way. I’ve never given it much thought, but now I think I’m gonna have to start checking them every so often. I hate crescent wrenches too, mostly because they don’t hold the size very well, but that is another good point, the toolbox is pretty small. Thank your camera ladies for doing such a good job with all the filming, and thank you too, Tim, for everything you do. I love watching your videos, and they are quality content. Keep it up. Take care.
For the bracket if the bolts are coming loose, you should put a lock washer to keep them from coming loose. I would use what is called a star washer not a split washer. If you look on the JD parts web site you can get the proper size of bolt to know what size washer to get.
Very impressive! Went to order my own grapple. Got to checkout to see it was a little over $3,600 decieded id wait for a little bit! Have you thought about Fabricating some sides to also have a rock bucket?
Make sure you set the zip code for shipping. I think the site defaults to $1000 for shipping until you specify a destination. Have not thought much about mods so far. Just getting started with the basics :-)
Ryan, I configured a grapple with two clamps and frame. I got $2857 including shipping. With a single clamp, it would be ~$600 cheaper. Are you SURE you entered your shipping address??? Otherwise, shipping is estimated at $1000 ...(yes, brilliant).
Tractor Time with Tim that makes total sence! No i got to the cart and saw my sub total and my wallet screamed! Lol was that with the diverter kit also?
Thanks Tim. I'll check it out. Our local John Deere Dealer just moved to a new location. Guess I need to go see the new store. Happy New Year to Everyone. By the way, It's pretty chilly here in Bowling Green. lol No Snow.
A grapple does a pretty good job with leaves if they are in a pile, or if you are working on a surface like the forest floor where you can pick up the odd stick or two to help compress them into the lower jaw (making it so they don't fall out). One use that I find they are great at is removing briar bushes. Our woods are loaded with them, some near 20' in diameter and a real pain (in more ways than one) to deal with. The grapple allows you to grab on to it starting high, compress the bush, and dig down to the roots in one motion, ripping it out. However, since briars tend to stick together and they form long whip like branches, when it does break lose it tends to want to wrap around the operator! I've had the things come flying back and stick into my arms, head (wearing a hat), legs...not fun.
I think I'll take your word for it ...and wait for your video, rather than attempting to show that 'whipping briars back toward the operator' for myself :-)
I knew you wouldn't have a problem picking then up, because when I clean them up I use a pitch fork. I do believe where the valve is in front needs to be more stable, maybe welda plate on tube then bolt it down, then maybe hoses wouldn't come loose
Wow that grapple is incredibly useful. I’m struggling with the price compared to full sized grapple rakes I see for 2k vs this for 3.5k. Have to make a decision soon
Nice job Tim! It's always hard to do something that you know is wrong. Obviously John Deere is your favorite tractor, but what would be the next runner up? Thanks from here in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Focus on your dealer. Which is the best dealer support. Then, focus on your needs. If you need easy attachabiliity (drive over deck, easy backhoe attach, lightweight quick attach loader, etc) you will need to stick with #1 and #2 in the industry. If not, you have many other choices.
In my town if you pile your leaves next to the street, the city comes around with a big truck and sucks them all up for you. In the county you have to bag them first, but they will still haul them away. Same deal with other yard waste like tree limbs. As long as the pieces are not longer than 7 feet and not heavier than 40 lbs.
Pretty slick. I surprisingly get loads and loads of leaves each fall, enough to justify a leaf blower purchase approval from my finance committee 😋. If you had 33 gallon trash cans and a leaf blower / mulcher to process and take home, that stuff (after a few years in a pile) is magic for a garden and might do your corn patch some good.
agree with Tim, keep an eye on that bracket..reason why.. John Deere is bad for ignoring reported issues. I reported the rear PTO failure of my 4100 within the first year ( metal shaddered ) the replacement was not made to spec and I was informed I could fill out a form so John Deere was made away and would fix the issue and correct the replacement part. For 10 years I reported this issue, 3 shaft failures..having to take the replacement to a machinist who charged heavy to grind it to proper specs... still JD did nothing...
This is old but... In this video, I can see that the 90 degree elbows are probably causing the fittings to become loose. The hoses are applying torque almost like wrench every time the grapple curls, causing them to loosen up after a few hours use. If the hoses had some support next to the couplers, that likely wouldn't happen. I'd try attaching them temporarily to the crossbar with a couple of those giant reusable zip ties. If that stopped the problem, I'd go ahead and try to devise a more elegant solution.
Yea you sure are right about where she had you place the leaves ,, if she isnt gonna burn them id put them oit back by tree line (open area) so the wind that wip threw there and spread them way along tree line on other side or back side...
HOLY MOLY! At the start of the video, you were talking about leaves, I was thinking a pile or two that some one raked up. Then the video starts and WOW. That’s a Mountain of leaves........
What do I think of those leaves. I think you're just showing off! You just want me to be even more sick because I don't have a grapple. Hey I have one or two of those metric adjustable wrenches. :) I also have some SAE American ones too! Don't carry them on the tractor though, I carry a set of pliers. SAE channel lock type. Probably should put a pair of metric pliers in the tool box too, seeing as most of the nuts are metric. LOL!!! Great video!
Yes, I think a good set of channel lock type pliers would be a good addition to the toolbox. I found newer ones with much better locking capabilities (much less frustrating). ..check them out here: www.tractortimewithtim.com/2017/03/02/tims-new-favorite-pliers/
Well you asked for feedback....so....that is the reason I hate working for the public. When they ask you to do something so dumb as stack those leaves against their house. I will almost always refuse to do something I know will do harm, like rot out the siding on their house and draw insects & rodents. If I do it is grudgingly and under protest and cannot hide it. Usually, I end up making an enemy when I was trying to do something nice and make or help a friend. You are a better man than me Tim and handle those situations much better.
I know we live close. That prompts my question. When was this video recorded? Right now we have snow and minus 10. A question you may not want to answer, and that will be ok. Do you have a regular job, or is this your income job? I'm retired, and do some of the same things you are doing. Summer tilling, grading, and the like. In the winter I do snow removal.
shot the week before Christmas. It was nice and warm then, remember? Seems like months ago!! I am a Software Architect/Developer. More info on our website: TractorTimeWithTim.com
Instead of raking the leaves up, would have been a chance to mulch them with the deck and turned them into dust. But great job on showing how useful the grapple can be...doesn't take long to pay for itself.
Adjustable wrenches are fine, however not all are decent. You need to find a brand that’s good, number one, and then you need to check the worm gear and the slide part for tolerance and fit they need to be tight with precision movement. If not they will slip and round off nuts etc. I like the old Crescent tools from the 60’s through the early 80’s if I can find them same with Vise Grips. whenever I’m at garage sales etc. and see good tools I buy them.
Seems odd that she would want the leaves right up against her house like that. Looks like either wood or cement siding so hopefully it doesn't encourage rot.
I meant to comment about Katriel in the tree removal video, She wasn't wearing her signature flip flops....The grapple did do the work of multiple persons in that video.
Love the grapple!! however the place she wanted the leaves not so much, I was a volunteer fire fighter for over 20 years and that's a recipe for disaster!! One good spark or flying ember and she has a LOT of fuel right next to the house, not good!
I have a battery powered adjustable wrench made by black and Decker and I like it much better. Simply put your wrench on the nut and push the in button to tighten it to the hex head. When done hit the out button to loosen it up. It's a great tool, as long as you keep the batteries fresh. But you can still use it manually when the batteries die. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/_yfKjltRcx4/v-deo.html
I never would have guessed the grapple would do so well at picking up the leaves. I imagine that they were wet and compacted well which helped. Thanks for another great video!
Moist , but not soaked. They had not been rained on
Tractor Time with Tim that's even more impressive. Great job!
Great video Tim! I don’t have a grapple but I’ve found that if you have a chance to let debris sit in a pile for a week or so before moving them with the forks or in your case the grapple they tend to not fall through as easily. Love the grapple videos! Keep up the great work!

Great job Tim !! Thank you all for sharing !!! Be safe my friends and God bless you all !!!! Eddy
Tim, after viewing several available grapples. I really like this artillian grapple versatility at its best
I liked all the grapple videos. learned a lot glad you talked about the frame and to be mindful of stress weight when you were working on the big leaning tree. Better start lobbying. In my experience, it takes awhile :-)
Tractor Time with Tim Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Lol

PaK
Another one of Johnny’s many talents!
He just keeps learning.
Good stuff I was wondering what size or the dust cover on your grapple attachment the yellow &black
I'm not sure. These are 1/4 hoses.
Another excellent job by the Grapple..... and Johnny ...... and you, of course. Oh yeah, and the camera lady. No shots of the hat this time.
Great video. The grapple sure makes thing look easy. Hope y'all have a great New Year!!!
Thx Tim
Looked like you were picking up square bales of leaves! Works perfect!
Gotta love home owners and their bright ideas! That’s a fire hazard!
We use the mulching deck. Lazy here :-)
Grapple did a great job on those leaves. I would not have thought it would work on leaves.
Very impressive. Why did they have you pickup the leaves from where they were and pile them against the house?
Did you hear me ask you not to focus on that???!!
Sorry... I must have missed that. I had the sound down a bit as I was on hold on the phone while watching. :-(
No problem. I was trying to avoid 500 questions on that. It is not ours to reason why.... Customer wants what the customer wants.
No problem... that's the answer then. ;-)

Actually the tool Tim is using is called a "Fully Adjustable Ball Peen Crescent Hammer".
I thank you for the kind words. Seems that grapple would dig out stumps, etc better than 4-in-1.
Just curious, did you use any thread lock on those bolts while installing? If not, might have saved you some time and worry. 🤞
It did a great job picking them up but I am wondering why you put them all against the house and not a burn or recycle pile
Loctite 569 for hydraulic threads the fittings wont loosen up. Impressed me grapple on the leaves.
Is there and end to the versatility of this tractor?
Not sure!

Adjustable wrench, king of the knuckle busters.
Exactly!

The grapple does a great job..nice those 2 seperat ones... even with leaves
It worked very well.
You can only fit so many tools in those small toolbox’s and a fit all ,and hammer has to be in there. I liked how it picked up the leaves
My bracket broke last summer. Strap and bracket. I haven't replaced or repaired them yet. Do you see anything detrimental to leaving it broke?
Yes, apparently some are wearing through the valve cover or something like that.
Thanks Tim. I'll check it out. Our local John Deere Dealer just moved to a new location. Guess I need to go see the new store. Happy New Year to Everyone. By the way, It's pretty chilly here in Bowling Green. lol No Snow.
Ky? If so, very close to our friend Phillip.
Great video!!! I see john deere offers a cab the 1025r tractors now but expensive
Yes, and no air conditioning. Show stopper here in Indiana.
That wouldn't be good
A grapple does a pretty good job with leaves if they are in a pile, or if you are working on a surface like the forest floor where you can pick up the odd stick or two to help compress them into the lower jaw (making it so they don't fall out).

Green with envy... perfect mulch. No weeds in that bed.
Nice job Tim! It's always hard to do something that you know is wrong. Obviously John Deere is your favorite tractor, but what would be the next runner up? Thanks from here in Nova Scotia, Canada.
I love em all, Danny!
Lol, I do too! I have been looking at sc tractors for awhile now and just can not decide. I never thought it would be this hard.

A saying from friend Rob at LunkersTV says, "Easy Peasy, Lemon Squeezy!" Worked just fine on the leaves.
Great video Tim!

We don't get too many leaves. We just run the mulching mower over them...then they disappear.
agree with Tim, keep an eye on that bracket..reason why..
I had doubts about moving leaves with a grapple but I was surprised how well it did.
Wow didn't expect it would work that good. Multi-use grapple. Let's see what else you can use it for.
Mighty Moe Excavating wants u to get a whack of snow! Time for Johnny Blade! Ty for the entertainment
Blade video tomorrow!!!

Yep, I have a set like them and an older set that I like even better. The older set grip much better. The jaws are made to grip and not let go.
Works nicely
Wow a big old leaf rake. You probably won’t get that opportunity very soon again to move a big pile of wet leaves. I did work great.
Thank you my friend!!
Are there torque specs for these fittings ?
Well you asked for feedback....so....that is the reason I hate working for the public. When they ask you to do something so dumb as stack those leaves against their house. I carry two adjustable wrenches in my tractor toolbox for when I need to work on a bolt + nut. I hate both of them.
I can’t believe you put the leaves there lol
Compact them like bales. Well done. OBTW - need left an right handled wrenches making it 4 total with Metric/Imperial :-)
Instead of raking the leaves up, would have been a chance to mulch them with the deck and turned them into dust.

So were we!
Seems odd that she would want the leaves right up against her house like that. Looks like either wood or cement siding so hopefully it doesn't encourage rot.
I specifically asked for you to not focus on that! Second comment focuses on it. Perhaps I need to take the video down.
Nope. Just pointing out my opinion. I know you said that's not where you would have put them. I apologize.
my opinion too. thx.
Awesome work on the leaves.. as you said I don't agree on her decision on the location she had you place them..
My grandpa wishes that he had that loader for his 2305 John Deere
Why you putting them up against the house?
Because that is where she insisted that they be put.
Johnny takes a really large bite. (Ok, that seemed much funnier before I typed it.)
I meant to comment about Katriel in the tree removal video, She wasn't wearing her signature flip flops....The grapple did do the work of multiple persons in that video.
Ah, yea, no flip-flops. I didn't even notice!
Oh wow, that gal.
You need to talk about hydraulic safely. How to check for leaks, etc.
I have put 3 straps on my air cleaner on my 2015 1025r
Wow.
I hate adjustable wrenches with a passion, yet I have at least 2 in every tractor toolbox I own, they are an awkward necessity....
Exactly!
Won't those leaves hold a good bit of moister and critters that near the house? Yes BIG HAMMER and an Snap-On adjustable wrench. Pipe Dope
H Smith why over priced snap on? Lol
Tim Could u of not just burn the leaves?
No. this was second day. Did you see the main grapple video? i explained the fire situation.
Worked pretty n
I've seen grapples used for mulch/manure on farms so this doesn't surprise me.
It surprised me. I figured it would 'sort of' work, but not nearly as well as it did.
We always called a crescent wrench a Ukrainian Socket Set, plus yours is the Left Handed Metric unit
I knew there was a problem with mine!
I'd like one of those for my 3025e!!!
You'll love it.
Tractor Time with Tim Do they come in the size to fit my 3025e?
Yes. As long as you have quick attach bucket.
Tractor Time with Tim It's got the same hook up as yours!!
Hello, Use loctite on the threads. 😊
Nice in open area didn't seem as good in the brush
Love the grapple!! however the place she wanted the leaves not so much, I was a volunteer fire fighter for over 20 years and that's a recipe for disaster!! One good spark or flying ember and she has a LOT of fuel right next to the house, not good!
If only we could get the grapple to shake all the leaves out the the trees at the same time .
ha!
This is where the double clamps are better than the single center mounted clamp.
Yes, two clamps really helped on this.
I love that joke
You needed a left hand metric adjustable wrench!
Crescent wrench , but everyone calls them something different :)
Oh yer the next door called the fire department
Yep. "Cannot burn Yard Waste..."
I would’ve mulched all those leaves in the my lawn
I mean I'd be more impressed if Artillian didn't call the piece opposite the grapple a "rake" because rakes go with leaves.. ha!
Not the best place. Would have suggested to spread out and reduce with bush hog. Grapple is ausom .
No Tim you are not at Stacy’s house you are standing in your garage talking to a Camera
Ha! You caught me. It was all special effects. We're getting quite advanced here at TTWT!
I zip tie a piece of chicken wire to mine
