    Leila, great video as always. I have to say however, you may be one of the world's top Excel resources and no doubt you love what you do, but you are missing your true calling. Comedy! The timing first on the "woah, wait" bit and then the coffee sip was just comedic genius! 🤣

    • @LeilaGharani
      @LeilaGharani  9 місяців тому +21

      ahhh thank you! When I first read the "but," I thought you were going to say, "but why do you have to tease IT again?" 😉 It was nice surprise. I always liked acting, but I have no talent. But everything can be learnt.

      I agree! When she said “woah, wait!” I thought “oh, she’s gonna cheat the 90 second limit by explaining a bunch of stuff before the timer starts, and she didn’t. And when the timer actually started, while all viewers are watching like “how is she going to do this?!” with our eyes wide open, she used up more than 10 seconds for sipping coffee 😂 That was awesome!!!
      Love this excel trick too. I use Power BI for reporting a lot, but there are some users who prefer excel. I love both. And I cannot wait to use this technique to make my users go “Wow!”

      @@LeilaGharani Sorry for the late reply, I don't have notifications on. I actually think you definitely have acting talent. If you have a passion for it then you should definitely explore that side of you. But please don't forget us lowly Excel and Power BI users pretty please, we still need your expertise! 😂

    Great video! But unless I missed it, there was no explanation of what you did in the part about scaling numbers back when you are presenting large numbers? Was it just to divide the larger number by a large number to get the rept function to show less? And how did the bars accommodate the text added like "VIP campaign" and "announcement"?

    • @IsMirDochLattens
      @IsMirDochLattens 9 місяців тому +4

      I didn't buy the course but i'd imagine that she used a monotype font (all characters have the same width) and then she just subtracted the length of the text from the repetition multiplicator.
      For the scaling you would divide the value of the row by the max of the data column and multiply it by the chosen length. So the largest number is divided by itself (=1) which results in 1* chosen length. So a bar that has half of the max value would result in 0.5 * chosen length.
      Edit: Font it probably "Hack"
      Edit2: No it's not, the dot at the end doesn't align. But it is close.

    • @vinimaysingh7713
      @vinimaysingh7713 9 місяців тому

      I used “Consolas” font and the same approach and it worked. Dumb question though, how I go about the conditional formatting to highlight the row with highest value. Thanks.
      Figured the conditional formatting part too.

    • @Hamromerochannel
      @Hamromerochannel 9 місяців тому

      I see it differently. I figure out we always limited only by imagination. Now she gave me an idea, I will go figure it myself. Excellent idea about scaling. In fact excellent way of visualisation I had never thought of.

    • @IStoreGas
      @IStoreGas Місяць тому

      Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I get the comment part, you just count characters and subtract but I’m a bit confused on the scaling. I’m imagining you divide everything by the largest value then scale that.

    I will attest to the quality of Leila’s courses. I’ve only taken the Power Query course which I needed for a data triage train wreck. I had muddled through it on my own initially. The course was a life and time saver. The cost and time of the course was a fraction of the time, effort and frustration I saved. I think that this course is next. I’m an old dog and need this new trick. Users are so lucky today to have access to high quality videos from trusted professionals to help us increase and refine our excel skills. It was dark days on the frontier back in the day.

    A related question, using this type of chart, how do you best deal when one category is out the chat?
    For instance: category 1 => 2000, categories 2 to 10 => between 100 and 10. How do you deal with category 1?

    • @LeilaGharani
      @LeilaGharani  9 місяців тому +3

      For comparison if I'm making a bar of column chart, I'd still start with zero. It's important to visually see the big difference between the categories. Here is an article from Forbes that you might find helpful. (www.forbes.com/sites/evamurray/2019/04/04/why-do-bar-charts-work/)
      If I need to see the variation between the other categories, I'll create a zoomed in version where we "zoom" into the rest and ignore the first category. (either leave it out, or keep it in, but "break the axis" - for this technique we can add another symbol for that category's bar to emphasize the difference (for example a dashed line).

      Hi thank you. This one will be on XelPlus. We also have the option to pay in EUR since we are in the EU :)

    Hello and respect, before asking the question, thank you for all the activities you share with us.
    For a long time in Excel, as soon as I press the control key, all the cells are selected, exactly the same as the action of the small triangle on the upper left, and I can't use any of the combined commands, the office version is the latest, and Windows 11.Just I have this problem on Excel.
    I searched all the settings and looked for a solution on the internet, but I didn't find an answer.
    Thank you for your help

      That's an unusual problem. It could be related to windows sticky keys. Go to Windows Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard, and make sure "Sticky Keys" is turned off. There could be problem with your keyboard (if it's a pc, try using another keyboard to see if you have the same issue). You can isolate the problem easier if you can check whether the same issue applies on another computer. If yes, then check your Excel add-ins. Are you using any? if yes, disable them and check again. Once you solve it, let us know what it was :)
