I was so bored of the regular Splatoon 3 game modes that I planned to exclusively play challenges, then Nintendo ruined it by giving us 6 hours per month to play it and now I'm not even sure if I wanna play it at all.
No effing way these challenges aren't accessible at all times! I was so happy too. How about the people who have work?! Honestly, after the .96 gal deco nothing hyped me that much anymore. Maybe in Splatoon 5 it'll be a regular thing like Salmon Run.

And the worst part is, you KNOW the servers are going to be overloaded because every player in the world is logging on in the same tiny window. It'll be the week one comm errors all over again.
Considering that Splatoon 3 uses peer to peer connection, if this causes the servers to get overloaded somehow... I honestly don't have any words for how bad that would be.
I get that they maybe don't want to make Challenges open all the time so that the playerbase is more balanced, but right now, Eggstra work is better than Challenges. (That's not a good thing.) I think they should make Challenges open every weekend of the month. (Basically a splatfest that comes every Friday [Starts when shops reset], Saturday, and Sunday of the month) I think this would be a great addition so everyone can at least have a chance to try the modes! Modes can rotate every 2 hours. Nintendo probably won't do this anyways...
It's genuinely so weird how obsessed they are with FOMOing their audience as a way to keep them entertained, but because they aren't adding longevity options to the game, people are actually ONLY actively playing the special events. It backfired so hard on them lmao
The thing is, I thought the catch of challenges was just that it was replacing league, and I was already sad about that. But THIS?? This is so IMMENSELY IDIOTIC that no one could predict it! I really hope it's just for the first challenges, to fix bugs, and that they make them happen more often. I also think there might be a chance it's a weekly thing that they do every weekend, but that would just line up with splatfest, big run, and eggstra work so Idk. Yeah! There's the potential for them to be testing Challenges to see how they wanna do them, but would it hurt them to have them communicate that with us?? Nintendo is off their rocker with this bruh And thank you, I appreciate that! time-based videos are difficult for me to make just because of the time it takes for me to edit and get it out within a time-frame that's still "relevant", but yeah this was a blast to put together, and I'll see what I can do for the future!

I originally thought challenges were private battle exclusive, so when they tweeted they were online, I got super excited, then extremely sad cause they were only open for 6 hours :( It feels like the same thing with s2 salmon run, “you get to play this super fun new game mode, but if you play the game at the wrong time, sucks to be you ig”
Nintendo really do what Nintendon't... Which is make sensible decisions about how they go about handling their game and game balance. I was willing to overlook the bad kit on S-blast, as disheartening as it was, if other weapons got good kits (which looks only to be the case for, shocker, the two shooters and like the new brush and maybe Big Swig I guess) but then they beat my previous excitement down even further by not fumbling, not even dropping the ball, but kicking it into another zip code. I love splatoon, and while the new maps are only meh this season, I would still be excited to see literally anything else outside of the kits be good this season, if not for the single biggest selling point being an absolutely baffling case of Nintendo devs forgetting how to breathe and passing out on the keyboard while coding.

I have no idea why some weapons haven't gotten more than 1 kit yet. Especially weapons that have been practically shown off like Dynamo being teased with a model, and with Tri-Stringer and Splatana literally being newly introduced weapons exclusive to this game.
Tbh i have gotten so burned out from s3 and i was so excited thinkin "yes finally! a new wacky mode to bring my motivation to play back!" But no ofc is timelimited and 6 HOUR LIMITED??? imo maybe the devs are “soft launching”challenges to see how people react/play at first, but what’s the point if not everyone can play them within the allotted time? maybe they can add them to PBs if people can’t participate, but who knows. hopefully challenges and eggstra work will become available anytime in the future, but it sucks that new things added to funny squid game are expected to have such a large catch now. regardless, awesome video cj! challenges only being open sometimes also makes it WAY harder to play with friends. bc then even when all of you have free time to play it might not even be open. that was a big issue in splatoon 2 with sr, and that only had like, a day of downtime max near the end, so this is going to be SO ANNOYING when i just wanna play splatoon with friends. idk, im just hoping theyll fix the downtimes and make them shorter like they did with splatoon 2 salmon run.
Since the game launched I’ve had a sneaking suspicion that Nintendo’s vision for the game and the western fanbase’s vision for the game is significantly different. Hell, I feel like the game developers and Nintendo have different ideas for what the game should be, given the disconnect between the weapon design and beta map design, vs the final map design. I just wish we could get more transparency on where the game is going.
lol, to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if they actually said something like that considering how many hours the game expects you to play in a 2-day period to get the EVP 999 badge.. I have it. It took around 22 hours.
I just want splatlings to have more love! I have struggled this season to play the game because my class feels dead. The last brand-new weapon from this class was the first day of 2018! I know there are other players that are feeling this way in different classes. but surely, a class that has been in the game since august 2015 could have some love. I would have adored if they released a new splatling along side the brush and blaster, to me those classes are like cousins haha because they came out around the same time
What? Aren't Heavy and Ballpoint like top-tier rn? Plus, this season is gonna have Heavy Deco unless you're talking about brand-new weapons in which case they're gonna get to it. Something tells me it could even be in the next season or so. If there's a class that really needs love though, it's gonna be Brellas. (Like seriously, it's in need of serious buffs and bug fixes)
@@Mad-Goose I know ballpoint is supposed to be top teir, and ive had a good experience playing it. I am more talking about new weapons and a few more good kits. Like it doesnt have to be some sort of innovative new weapon like the ballpoint, it could be something like a 'light splatlight' which has more mobility and longer range but with more charge time. I feel that some shooters take that approach in design, say splash and splattershot are similar but not exactly the same. Agreed that the brellas need work tho, i know that there have been tonnes of clips showing how broken they are. Also I noticed that deco heavy has kraken which im not too keen on, I personally feel that it would suit a nautilis way better or a mini kit.

While I like the stages and the catalogues/seasons, Salmon Run’s rewards could use some tweaks and how they are handling the challenges is downright baffling. Challenges should be another game mode. For Salmon Run, I’d personally make the following changes: 1. Higher max scale limit. 13 feels like a weird number to choose for a limit. I’d increase it to at least 20. 2. Decrease the rarity of silver/gold scales. You get max scales if you have 30 seconds or more remaining but with a good load out and good team, it’s easy to beat them even faster. So I’d add a system that increases the chances of getting silver and gold scales for every additional second after 30. 3. Decrease some of the prices. While the other two changes would make some of the prizes more manageable, some are still ridiculously expensive, like the banner that costs 999 silver.
Here's my take on this: I think challenge's are okay. Of course they shouldn't be only 6 hours long and I hope Nintendo will change this in the future. But I think that having more limited time events are a good idea because it could possibly get people to play Splatoon more often. If Nintendo added a small mid-season update then I think Splatoon 3 would be in a much better spot. The season would start with an update then a big run with 2 splatfests down the line with eggstra work and challenges in between with that small mid-season update also helping to keep players invested. I also think that having the modes be permanent would spilt the player base to thin and in a couple of months make some of the modes die. It's the same thing with league. Maybe matchmaking will be the same in open as it's always been but making it a part of the mode helps keep it active. The nova and big swig getting new kits is weird but swig needed it and while nova already has a decent kit and it's new one will probably be worse I still would take this over a new machine kit or something like that. In the future I hope that all weapons get new kits and I think that brella and dynamo should've gotten something already but i still hope that the devs will give them something eventually. That's just my take. Splatoon 3 isn't perfect but some of the decisions (some not all) the devs make that a lot of people criticize aren't as bad as some people think (at least in my opinion) and trying to see it from the devs perspectiv might make it easier to understand their sometimes weird sometimes stupid decisions more clear. That is just my take Splatoon 3 has many problems some bigger than others. Great video but as it says at 2:02 things change and hopefully Nintendo will improve on Splatoon 3 in the future making the video outdated in some ways sadly. Great video about a great game.
While not in this season's update I think what made me realize development has gone downhill is their handling of balancing the kraken- Or, lack of. I think when they announced it everyone thought it was gonna be a nerfed version, like, not invincible, just with ink armor.. I dunno, something different. The fact they put an overpowered, invincible special into the game with practically no edits from splatoon 1. (Which, considering specials like the bubbler, splatoon 1 had some serious balancing issues with OP weapons and specials, hence why they over-nerfed rollers entirely unfortunately.) Now that the special has been out for some time I feel like it's just ridiculously unbalanced. I was trying to play ranked more but honestly? I stopped mainly because of this special. I'd keep getting matches where teams would camp objective with kraken, and of course it worked, because they're literally invicible. You cannot kill them. It's almost destroyed the way ranked works for most of the modes in my opinion. I cannot tell you how many times I'd encountered a kraken sitting on a tower. Also the fact they had to make an UPDATE so krakens would drop their clams is insane to me. Like, on launch you could carry all your clams to the enemy basket, while invincible? That's just broken, and the fact they didn't even consider it before that update is insane to me, that balancing should've been there on launch. It just feels insane to me that we're adding overpowered specials like this, barely nerfing crab tank (it took so long to get any significant nerf to it.) Meanwhile Splatana Stamper and Octobrush users are stuck with.. Climb on walls. While glowing. With absolutely 0 stealth. What kind of balancing is that?? Anyway my rants aside, I am excited for this new update, but, honestly? Really only because of the Painbrush, and the changes to Big Run and Eggstra work. I don't understand why the mode was made exclusive to this extent, and I think Splatoon 3 has just been piling up with issues of inaccessibility since launch. Some of which are being fixed, some... are not.

It makes no sense atp how the same dev team has gotten away with putting out 2 unfinished games at release . Animal crossing with the whole "FREE DLC WOW SO COOL YOU WOULDVE NEEDED TO PAY FOR CONTENT THAT LASTS A SINGLE DAY " and now Splatoon 3 doing the same thing . I don't know if a higher up is making these decisions but whoever is NEEDS TO TAKE A HIKE . Splatoon was fresh now it's frozen , moldy , stale , dry , AND unseasoned too.

All these weapons not geting a kit before Big Swig and Nova wouldn't be any issue if... well we got more than NINE kits for the whole season like holy crap we need more, like I'm all for not waiting a whole year for the second Big Swig if... well, the other weapons didn't have to wait (most likely) even longer than a year.

What they should do is release one new weapon per week at the start of each season, if there’s 13 weeks, and only 13 weapons are added (which is unfortunately more than the usual) it works. If they don’t want to do that, they need to add more weapons halfway through the season, 13 at the start and 13 more halfway, how else are we going to get to 3 kits for every weapon. Regardless, I think splatoon 3 may finally reach its potential by the end of its lifespan

Fresh Season was the only season that kept me excited throughout the season. The only thing is that TotK is out so I'm not playing as much Splatoon 3 (*coughs* besides today because of golden rotation and I had to to get to EVP 500's *coughs*). I've been star grinding weapons I guess. Lots of three/four stars I can do....I GUESS I can five star Reef-Lux if they really don't want to add an alt kit. Look, we gotta make the mode so exciting and everyone logging into it so that Nintendo can be like "Yo this is actually popular so we can get out of this testing phase and make it into a permanent mode like a season or two later" 🙃

I’m late to this party but yeah… it says a LOT when the only season I ever actively tried to finish was the first one. Not even salmon run is safe from Big N’s nonsense IMO even WITH double scales as unless you can handle EVP (which some people either aren’t skilled enough, or literally find it too chaotic) , GOOD FREAKING LUCK getting anything other then maybe 8 bronze IF YOU ARE LUCKY. Turf Wars is in a weird place where even turf feels like a rank mode at this point with how full of try hards it is, combined with splatfests making people WAY too salty over something that shouldn’t be that serious. Ranked… I’m no X rank player, don’t have the energy to grind for that, but like… why is open the ONLY option to play these modes if you don’t wanna “bet” points on series? I get open is taking the place of league, but A: that was NOT what they promised at launch, and B: Challenges are so scuffed they might as well not exist. My last point; Call me a pessimist, but side order is gonna add SOMETHING that only players of side order can get. Octo Expansion was hype and all, but like… S3 had the right idea to NOT charge for playable octolings. But I just KNOW history is gonna repeat itself SOMEHOW. Either some cosmetics only gotten in side order, or some other feature you can only get in that DLC. Here’s my hot take as a TLDR; Splatoon shows that Nintendo can’t do an actual competitive game, and is why they shut down fan attempts that are better then they can wrap their heads around.

Admittedly I agree they way they’re doing challenges really sucks. But about the content in the seasons. In an interview they said they’re doing it at this slower pace to not overwork and force the devs to crunch and over exhaust themselves and I’m fine with waiting 3 months if it’s gonna keep the environment not taxing on the devs. I do think like having polls and stuff on the Twitter account and stuff could be a good idea though. Like ask what kinda kits people wanna see, what changes to maps etc, what gear should return, stages, etc. I do think having that would be good to have a connection to the community and make us feel like our voices matter. (Like I’ll defend mahi mahi in s3 til the day I die cuz I love the hell out of it but I get why others don’t and like wouldn’t mind it being changed to be more fun for everyone. I just wish they’d listen to us ig. Get some pro players to test out kits maybe. Like fly them down to help with balancing that kinda stuff? Idk this game has the potential to be the best. But I honestly feel more like anarchy open and stuff is a chore rather than fun. Decay makes it so I HAVE to play consistently I’m like AUGH LEMME TAKE A MENTAL HEALTH BREAK OR SOMETHING. (Sorry that got rambly tldr engaging with the community could do a lot of good for the game.)
I agree, making Challenges ANOTHER event is awful, it should be either a random chance at happening during a rotation or a new gamemode on rotation where each of the current different modes could happen like a Salmon Run Wave. I love this series and especially Splatoon 3 but these constant 2 steps forward 1 step back really kills the game sometime. I mean AGAIN no Brella buff or new Brellas or new kits for Brellas. Personally I absolutely hate what they are doing with pseudo-League Battles, the last thing broken matchmaking Open(and even Series) needs is ANOTHER point/matching system that will only add more complexity which any time something becomes more complex the higher chance of failure, and knowing Splatoon 3 it could be catastrophic failure. Dedicated Teams need and deserve a dedicated mode, aka League, where they can and expect to fight other teams, I feel if this is the route they want to tryout then it should be done with X Rank mode instead, otherwise I don't even see the point of X even being a mode anymore. Why have Rank(Open) now contain ANOTHER point value system when X exists. What was nice about Rank Open is it allowed newbies and rookies to join and play alone or together with friends more casually as to learn the modes and get better without feeling stressed with Series high risk reward system. This new added system is gonna fail and less confident or lower ranked players are gonna be extremely frustrated and detoured by being stressed from another judge system and even worse matchmaking that will happen. How are they gonna judge your Open Level if you play with different friends or teams, you may do amazing with 1 friend or a whole team then the next moment do AWFUL with another group of friends. Even at S+ I still will get randomly matched with lower levels and matched against higher levels. All you need to determined who you are matched with is your Rank Level and then Player Level. The more I learn about Sizzle Season the more I am dreading it.
Oh boy, what do I have to say: First off, I'm completely fine and even a fan of the seasonal update model, it's just Nintendo needs to add either more kits than usual or more permanent modes. And secondly, I think we're jumping off way too quickly, just a tad. Namely, the fact the first 3 2 hour windows are for a commemorative Turf War cup on only the newly added stages. We don't know how the structure will be within these new special rules. Lastly, about the map design, I'm still going to side with S3. S2 just has worse maps with sometimes trivial gimmicks, and the fact that global range specials like Missiles, StingRay and Ink Armor just makes some of these stages a hellhole. That's why some people aren't very thrilled with Humpback being this season's returning map, it's infamous for being special spam hell in S2. Anyway, that's about the extent of my explanation. Compared to the hours I have on 2 splatoon 3 is failing so hard. I have 345 hours on 3 compared to my 1,465 on 2, splatoon 3 is being a massive let down and I expected myself to play it more than I am. I expected to play the game at least 5 hours a day but I’m barely touching the game for more than 5 minutes. Ranked, turf and tableturf has gotten so boring I can’t even bring myself to open the game. Not even for big run, eggstra work etc. I barely even got myself to open splatoon last splatfest. I was more tempted and more interested in playing Pokémon or FNaF than splatoon. Also don’t forget that depending on where you live: *all the challenge rotations happen in one day.* (ex: 12am to 3am 6/3, 8am to 10am 6/3, 4pm to 6pm 6/3 all in Atlantic standard btw)
no honestly ur right abt the map changes even with splatoon 2 imo. like even though manta maria had minor changes they just kinda make it feel worse to play? not rlly sure what it is but just all the ported maps feel worse than their original versions. obv the splatoon 1 ports are worse but like i dont think its exaggerating to say none of them r rlly that good.
In my opinion, the decisions made with the challenge mode semi make sense. Now before I get doxxed and receive so many death threats that I can make a thesis about them, let me explain. For awhile we've had the same modes for years now, in which the most recent being Clam Blitz introduced in Splatoon 2 (or sorta Tricolor). Due to that, long time players in the community have started to get tired of the said modes. Now imagine what would happen if were given indefinite access to this new mode, what would happen then? We would get tired of it after a month or so because of the lack of new "mini modes" in this mode; and need I remind you that Splatoon doesn't get consistently updated? It would be similar to what happend to Fall Guys, it was fun for a while but lost a majority of it's playerbase because of a lack of updates and mini games added over a period of time. However I will not say this mode was handled the best way. There definitely could have been more time given to play this mode (of course someting like the time we have with Big Runs or Splatfests), as that's been one of the main complaints I've seen; but not making this mode a permanent thing is something I give the developers credit for and is something I think people are being a little to dramatic about (That and people whining about the kits of the new weapons knowing damn well they'll buy AND play with them anyway).
If team order won this wouldn't be happening just letting yall know, yall wanted chaos and are suffering the consequences/j But idk why nintendo is willing to make salmon run 24/7 but decided to make a new casual friendly splatoon mode restricted to a limited time...

I love Splatoon 3, and it’s the first Splatoon game I’ve ever played. However when I look back at S1 and S2 (which I’ve only ever seen videos about), I feel as though they’re just leagues better then S3. It makes me so sad seeing such a cool game and it’s franchise get bogged down, and unable to reach its full potential. ): I hope Nintendo Will bring S3 the justice it deserves!

This is kinda hopium, but I don’t think this is gonna be a few time windows per month kinda thing (if it was, they would have made it to be a day or 2 per month), I think the devs will put time windows for these every weekend and we can view them on the schedule in-game. Putting on my detective hat and glasses, the devs specifically describe this as “Play these special modes for a limited time!” and *NOT* as an event. If this was an event, they wouldn’t have these wacky time windows. Even eggstrawork (which was planned to be a mini event that happens more often than big runs) is called an event and went on for 2 days. This may sound like hopium but I genuinely think this is the most likely explanation. The worst circumstances are that the devs are making challenges have wacky time windows because for some reason they think something that happens monthly can be considered a limited time mode (like salmon run was in Splatoon 2) and not an event, which is unlikely because splatfests happened monthly in splatoon 2, and THOSE were a full day (or more, I can’t remember lol) So basically to summarize my investigation, I think we can conclude that Challenges will be limited in an similar way salmon run was in splat 2, just instead every weekend. In addition, I will say that the twitter account also mentioned that some of these will be “tournament qualifiers”. So similar to DUDE’s theory, maybe on one of the weekends that challenges are available, there will be an actual event-like competition. Edit: ok I’ve been seeing more and more videos talking about how bad these time windows are on challenges Y’all do know that Nintendo literally never said these will happen once per season or once per month right? …but anyways, I feel like if all of this is true (maybe not the competition part) the time windows would honestly be justified as no one would feel FOMO because if you miss one, you’ll always have the next one that is, at maximum, a week away. But who knows, they might make challenges happen every 2 days like they did with Salmon Run in Splatoon 2 🤷♂️ (Sorry this is extremely long btw lol) Edit 2: bad news guys… the UK account said “Look forward to challenges monthly”. Either this is simply not true due to poor wording or something or this only applies to the “tourney qualifiers” and playing the mode itself will be available more often. Splatoon 3 doesn't have servers for actual gameplay, its P2P. The only servers that are used are in the lobby for matchmaking.

(Basically a splatfest that comes every Friday [Starts when shops reset], Saturday, and Sunday of the month) I think this would be a great addition so everyone can at least have a chance to try the modes! Modes can rotate every 2 hours. Nintendo probably won't do this anyways...

Nintendo really do what Nintendon't... Which is make sensible decisions about how they go about handling their game and game balance. I was willing to overlook the bad kit on S-blast, as disheartening as it was, if other weapons got good kits (which looks only to be the case for, shocker, the two shooters and like the new brush and maybe Big Swig I guess) but then they beat my previous excitement down even further by not fumbling, not even dropping the ball, but kicking it into another zip code.
I love splatoon, and while the new maps are only meh this season, I would still be excited to see literally anything else outside of the kits be good this season, if not for the single biggest selling point being an absolutely baffling case of Nintendo devs forgetting how to breathe and passing out on the keyboard while coding.

I have no idea why some weapons haven't gotten more than 1 kit yet. Especially weapons that have been practically shown off like Dynamo being teased with a model, and with Tri-Stringer and Splatana literally being newly introduced weapons exclusive to this game.

Since the game launched I’ve had a sneaking suspicion that Nintendo’s vision for the game and the western fanbase’s vision for the game is significantly different. Hell, I feel like the game developers and Nintendo have different ideas for what the game should be, given the disconnect between the weapon design and beta map design, vs the final map design. I just wish we could get more transparency on where the game is going.

I just want splatlings to have more love! I have struggled this season to play the game because my class feels dead. The last brand-new weapon from this class was the first day of 2018! I know there are other players that are feeling this way in different classes. but surely, a class that has been in the game since august 2015 could have some love. I would have adored if they released a new splatling along side the brush and blaster, to me those classes are like cousins haha because they came out around the same time

@@Mad-Goose I know ballpoint is supposed to be top teir, and ive had a good experience playing it. I am more talking about new weapons and a few more good kits. Like it doesnt have to be some sort of innovative new weapon like the ballpoint, it could be something like a 'light splatlight' which has more mobility and longer range but with more charge time. I feel that some shooters take that approach in design, say splash and splattershot are similar but not exactly the same. Agreed that the brellas need work tho, i know that there have been tonnes of clips showing how broken they are. Also I noticed that deco heavy has kraken which im not too keen on, I personally feel that it would suit a nautilis way better or a mini kit.

While I like the stages and the catalogues/seasons, Salmon Run’s rewards could use some tweaks and how they are handling the challenges is downright baffling. Challenges should be another game mode. For Salmon Run, I’d personally make the following changes:
1. Higher max scale limit. 13 feels like a weird number to choose for a limit. I’d increase it to at least 20.
2. Decrease the rarity of silver/gold scales. You get max scales if you have 30 seconds or more remaining but with a good load out and good team, it’s easy to beat them even faster. So I’d add a system that increases the chances of getting silver and gold scales for every additional second after 30.
3. Decrease some of the prices. While the other two changes would make some of the prizes more manageable, some are still ridiculously expensive, like the banner that costs 999 silver.

Here's my take on this: I think challenge's are okay. Of course they shouldn't be only 6 hours long and I hope Nintendo will change this in the future. But I think that having more limited time events are a good idea because it could possibly get people to play Splatoon more often. If Nintendo added a small mid-season update then I think Splatoon 3 would be in a much better spot. The season would start with an update then a big run with 2 splatfests down the line with eggstra work and challenges in between with that small mid-season update also helping to keep players invested. I also think that having the modes be permanent would spilt the player base to thin and in a couple of months make some of the modes die. It's the same thing with league. Maybe matchmaking will be the same in open as it's always been but making it a part of the mode helps keep it active. The nova and big swig getting new kits is weird but swig needed it and while nova already has a decent kit and it's new one will probably be worse I still would take this over a new machine kit or something like that. In the future I hope that all weapons get new kits and I think that brella and dynamo should've gotten something already but i still hope that the devs will give them something eventually. That's just my take. Splatoon 3 isn't perfect but some of the decisions (some not all) the devs make that a lot of people criticize aren't as bad as some people think (at least in my opinion) and trying to see it from the devs perspectiv might make it easier to understand their sometimes weird sometimes stupid decisions more clear. That is just my take Splatoon 3 has many problems some bigger than others. Great video but as it says at 2:02 things change and hopefully Nintendo will improve on Splatoon 3 in the future making the video outdated in some ways sadly. Great video about a great game.
While not in this season's update I think what made me realize development has gone downhill is their handling of balancing the kraken- Or, lack of. I think when they announced it everyone thought it was gonna be a nerfed version, like, not invincible, just with ink armor.. I dunno, something different. The fact they put an overpowered, invincible special into the game with practically no edits from splatoon 1. (Which, considering specials like the bubbler, splatoon 1 had some serious balancing issues with OP weapons and specials, hence why they over-nerfed rollers entirely unfortunately.)
Now that the special has been out for some time I feel like it's just ridiculously unbalanced. I was trying to play ranked more but honestly? I stopped mainly because of this special. I'd keep getting matches where teams would camp objective with kraken, and of course it worked, because they're literally invicible. You cannot kill them. It's almost destroyed the way ranked works for most of the modes in my opinion. I cannot tell you how many times I'd encountered a kraken sitting on a tower.
Also the fact they had to make an UPDATE so krakens would drop their clams is insane to me. Like, on launch you could carry all your clams to the enemy basket, while invincible? That's just broken, and the fact they didn't even consider it before that update is insane to me, that balancing should've been there on launch. It just feels insane to me that we're adding overpowered specials like this, barely nerfing crab tank (it took so long to get any significant nerf to it.) Meanwhile Splatana Stamper and Octobrush users are stuck with.. Climb on walls. While glowing. With absolutely 0 stealth. What kind of balancing is that??
Anyway my rants aside, I am excited for this new update, but, honestly? Really only because of the Painbrush, and the changes to Big Run and Eggstra work. I don't understand why the mode was made exclusive to this extent, and I think Splatoon 3 has just been piling up with issues of inaccessibility since launch. Some of which are being fixed, some... are not.

What they should do is release one new weapon per week at the start of each season, if there’s 13 weeks, and only 13 weapons are added (which is unfortunately more than the usual) it works. If they don’t want to do that, they need to add more weapons halfway through the season, 13 at the start and 13 more halfway, how else are we going to get to 3 kits for every weapon.
Regardless, I think splatoon 3 may finally reach its potential by the end of its lifespan
I think 2 things. The big swig kit was pretty needed (if it's good), and the time for challenges should have been atleast 4-6hours per time period.

Fresh Season was the only season that kept me excited throughout the season. The only thing is that TotK is out so I'm not playing as much Splatoon 3 (*coughs* besides today because of golden rotation and I had to to get to EVP 500's *coughs*). I've been star grinding weapons I guess. Lots of three/four stars I can do....I GUESS I can five star Reef-Lux if they really don't want to add an alt kit.

I’m late to this party but yeah… it says a LOT when the only season I ever actively tried to finish was the first one. Not even salmon run is safe from Big N’s nonsense IMO even WITH double scales as unless you can handle EVP (which some people either aren’t skilled enough, or literally find it too chaotic) , GOOD FREAKING LUCK getting anything other then maybe 8 bronze IF YOU ARE LUCKY. Turf Wars is in a weird place where even turf feels like a rank mode at this point with how full of try hards it is, combined with splatfests making people WAY too salty over something that shouldn’t be that serious. Ranked… I’m no X rank player, don’t have the energy to grind for that, but like… why is open the ONLY option to play these modes if you don’t wanna “bet” points on series? I get open is taking the place of league, but A: that was NOT what they promised at launch, and B: Challenges are so scuffed they might as well not exist. My last point; Call me a pessimist, but side order is gonna add SOMETHING that only players of side order can get. Octo Expansion was hype and all, but like… S3 had the right idea to NOT charge for playable octolings. But I just KNOW history is gonna repeat itself SOMEHOW. Either some cosmetics only gotten in side order, or some other feature you can only get in that DLC.
Here’s my hot take as a TLDR; Splatoon shows that Nintendo can’t do an actual competitive game, and is why they shut down fan attempts that are better then they can wrap their heads around.

Admittedly I agree they way they’re doing challenges really sucks. But about the content in the seasons. In an interview they said they’re doing it at this slower pace to not overwork and force the devs to crunch and over exhaust themselves and I’m fine with waiting 3 months if it’s gonna keep the environment not taxing on the devs. I do think like having polls and stuff on the Twitter account and stuff could be a good idea though. Like ask what kinda kits people wanna see, what changes to maps etc, what gear should return, stages, etc. I do think having that would be good to have a connection to the community and make us feel like our voices matter. (Like I’ll defend mahi mahi in s3 til the day I die cuz I love the hell out of it but I get why others don’t and like wouldn’t mind it being changed to be more fun for everyone. I just wish they’d listen to us ig. Get some pro players to test out kits maybe. Like fly them down to help with balancing that kinda stuff? Idk this game has the potential to be the best. But I honestly feel more like anarchy open and stuff is a chore rather than fun. Decay makes it so I HAVE to play consistently I’m like AUGH LEMME TAKE A MENTAL HEALTH BREAK OR SOMETHING. I agree, making Challenges ANOTHER event is awful, it should be either a random chance at happening during a rotation or a new gamemode on rotation where each of the current different modes could happen like a Salmon Run Wave. I love this series and especially Splatoon 3 but these constant 2 steps forward 1 step back really kills the game sometime. I mean AGAIN no Brella buff or new Brellas or new kits for Brellas.
Personally I absolutely hate what they are doing with pseudo-League Battles, the last thing broken matchmaking Open(and even Series) needs is ANOTHER point/matching system that will only add more complexity which any time something becomes more complex the higher chance of failure, and knowing Splatoon 3 it could be catastrophic failure. Dedicated Teams need and deserve a dedicated mode, aka League, where they can and expect to fight other teams, I feel if this is the route they want to tryout then it should be done with X Rank mode instead, otherwise I don't even see the point of X even being a mode anymore. Why have Rank(Open) now contain ANOTHER point value system when X exists. What was nice about Rank Open is it allowed newbies and rookies to join and play alone or together with friends more casually as to learn the modes and get better without feeling stressed with Series high risk reward system. This new added system is gonna fail and less confident or lower ranked players are gonna be extremely frustrated and detoured by being stressed from another judge system and even worse matchmaking that will happen. How are they gonna judge your Open Level if you play with different friends or teams, you may do amazing with 1 friend or a whole team then the next moment do AWFUL with another group of friends. Even at S+ I still will get randomly matched with lower levels and matched against higher levels. All you need to determined who you are matched with is your Rank Level and then Player Level. The more I learn about Sizzle Season the more I am dreading it.
Oh boy, what do I have to say:
First off, I'm completely fine and even a fan of the seasonal update model, it's just Nintendo needs to add either more kits than usual or more permanent modes.
And secondly, I think we're jumping off way too quickly, just a tad.
Namely, the fact the first 3 2 hour windows are for a commemorative Turf War cup on only the newly added stages.
We don't know how the structure will be within these new special rules.
Lastly, about the map design, I'm still going to side with S3.
S2 just has worse maps with sometimes trivial gimmicks, and the fact that global range specials like Missiles, StingRay and Ink Armor just makes some of these stages a hellhole.
That's why some people aren't very thrilled with Humpback being this season's returning map, it's infamous for being special spam hell in S2.
Anyway, that's about the extent of my explanation.

Compared to the hours I have on 2 splatoon 3 is failing so hard. I have 345 hours on 3 compared to my 1,465 on 2, splatoon 3 is being a massive let down and I expected myself to play it more than I am. I expected to play the game at least 5 hours a day but I’m barely touching the game for more than 5 minutes. Ranked, turf and tableturf has gotten so boring I can’t even bring myself to open the game. Not even for big run, eggstra work etc. I barely even got myself to open splatoon last splatfest. I was more tempted and more interested in playing Pokémon or FNaF than splatoon.
Also don’t forget that depending on where you live: *all the challenge rotations happen in one day.* (ex: 12am to 3am 6/3, 8am to 10am 6/3, 4pm to 6pm 6/3 all in Atlantic standard btw)

In my opinion, the decisions made with the challenge mode semi make sense. Now before I get doxxed and receive so many death threats that I can make a thesis about them, let me explain. For awhile we've had the same modes for years now, in which the most recent being Clam Blitz introduced in Splatoon 2 (or sorta Tricolor). Due to that, long time players in the community have started to get tired of the said modes. Now imagine what would happen if were given indefinite access to this new mode, what would happen then? We would get tired of it after a month or so because of the lack of new "mini modes" in this mode; and need I remind you that Splatoon doesn't get consistently updated? It would be similar to what happend to Fall Guys, it was fun for a while but lost a majority of it's playerbase because of a lack of updates and mini games added over a period of time. However I will not say this mode was handled the best way. There definitely could have been more time given to play this mode (of course someting like the time we have with Big Runs or Splatfests), as that's been one of the main complaints I've seen; but not making this mode a permanent thing is something I give the developers credit for and is something I think people are being a little to dramatic about (That and people whining about the kits of the new weapons knowing damn well they'll buy AND play with them anyway).

I love Splatoon 3, and it’s the first Splatoon game I’ve ever played. However when I look back at S1 and S2 (which I’ve only ever seen videos about), I feel as though they’re just leagues better then S3. It makes me so sad seeing such a cool game and it’s franchise get bogged down, and unable to reach its full potential. ): I hope Nintendo Will bring S3 the justice it deserves!

This is kinda hopium, but I don’t think this is gonna be a few time windows per month kinda thing (if it was, they would have made it to be a day or 2 per month), I think the devs will put time windows for these every weekend and we can view them on the schedule in-game. Putting on my detective hat and glasses, the devs specifically describe this as “Play these special modes for a limited time!” and *NOT* as an event. If this was an event, they wouldn’t have these wacky time windows. Even eggstrawork (which was planned to be a mini event that happens more often than big runs) is called an event and went on for 2 days.
This may sound like hopium but I genuinely think this is the most likely explanation. The worst circumstances are that the devs are making challenges have wacky time windows because for some reason they think something that happens monthly can be considered a limited time mode (like salmon run was in Splatoon 2) and not an event, which is unlikely because splatfests happened monthly in splatoon 2, and THOSE were a full day (or more, I can’t remember lol)
So basically to summarize my investigation, I think we can conclude that Challenges will be limited in an similar way salmon run was in splat 2, just instead every weekend. In addition, I will say that the twitter account also mentioned that some of these will be “tournament qualifiers”. So similar to DUDE’s theory, maybe on one of the weekends that challenges are available, there will be an actual event-like competition.
Edit: ok I’ve been seeing more and more videos talking about how bad these time windows are on challenges
Y’all do know that Nintendo literally never said these will happen once per season or once per month right?
…but anyways, I feel like if all of this is true (maybe not the competition part) the time windows would honestly be justified as no one would feel FOMO because if you miss one, you’ll always have the next one that is, at maximum, a week away. But who knows, they might make challenges happen every 2 days like they did with Salmon Run in Splatoon 2 🤷♂️

Edit 2: bad news guys… the UK account said “Look forward to challenges monthly”. Either this is simply not true due to poor wording or something or this only applies to the “tourney qualifiers” and playing the mode itself will be available more often. Hopefully one of these is true 🙏
