Because many people view it as a more high-class, ponderous sort of EDM, with a simplistic yet intricate mix that provokes feelings of relaxation, introspection and wonder... in the end it is just banging drums together, but I believe the thing that sets intelligent drum and bass apart from other things is the synth melodies and obscure speech samples.
