What are you smoking buddy? Without the US involved there is no conflict in the first place. How do you think a bunch of Christian fascists fled the mainland and ended up on that Island in the first place? “I am from Taiwan and I wish to see unification in my lifetime.” The vast majority of your countrymen disagree. Taiwan has never been part of China, so you can’t ‘re'unify. There was a 19-year period in the 19th century when the Qing claimed Taiwan as a prefecture, but that claim was not taken seriously by analysts of the time because China did not control the main island. At one point, they said they would make a coast guard but did not. They did manage to erect a lighthouse. This was in the backdrop of negotiations over the Treaty of Shimonoseki and was believed by some to have been a bargaining chip. The fact is, Taiwan was undesirable due to the prevalence of malaria and the presence of the Austronesian Taiwanese. It was a rough place and few Chinese ventured there.
Perhaps you have other reasons that are not historical. I might imagine a few. What are yours?

Many will think the US will defend Taiwan but I think the US won't risk total nuclear war with China. To China, Taiwan is a legitimacy issue (an existential issue) while to America, Taiwan is just a game, like Ukraine. At best, the US would provide weapons so that Taiwanese could fight China to the last Taiwanese man. And sanctions by the whole western world to break both China-occupied Taiwan and China Mainland, making the East Asia/ASEAN a mess, which is a valuable chance to bring back manufacturing to Europe/America. That's the strategy of western elite.

ROC for all intents and purposes, have ceased to exist since the formation of PRC in 1949. It’s therefore wrong to call the island of Taiwan as ROC, it’s parts of the PRC and the ROC preceding to the later. The recognition of PRC by the US under its One China policy lends credence to the sovereignty of PRC.
To use the Taiwan issue to contain China is uncalled for, devout of legitimacy.

US and its allies had better NOT to get involved in resolving Taiwan issue simply due its unfinished civil war nature and where secessionism involved; The same is true for China not to get involved with any separatist issue within Europe like Northern Ireland agt UK, and Catalunya agt Spain. Non-interference over the other country internal politics is a golden rule of thumb comprising mutual respect and peaceful co-existence. This rule must not be empowered only by saying, rather preferentially by honestly unbiased acting upon it.

I am utterly perplexed how these discussions about the Republic of China (aka ROC Taiwan) and the People's Republic of China (aka PRC Mainland China) are still up for debate in Western Driven media? How about we all listen to the citizens of the ROC Taiwan.
The citizens of ROC Taiwan had voted in January 2024, 60% AGAINST the proUSA party (who now run a minority government due to ROC Taiwan's 3 party system).
That is, 60% of the citizens of ROC Taiwan want USA and the Western World to LEAVE THEM ALONE. ROC Taiwan and PRC China have a healthy trading relationship. Tens of thousands of ROC Taiwanese cross over to China to run their businesses there on a daily basis. The ROC Taiwanese are happy with the Status Quo. The only major contenders are USA (who order their allies to comply) who travel over 10,000km away from their country to run weekly Military cruise ships and Military Planes, up and down China's maritime borders. Why? They need to go back and fix up their own problems, like FREEING HAWAII which they illegally occupied.
The relationship between PRC China and ROC Taiwan are similar to the relationship with the Commonwealth of Australia and the UK.
Even though Australia is a Commonwealth of England, we run as a Republic, with our own Prime Minister and our own Currency. We are OK with the Status Quo and we just live our lives the way we choose.
ROC Taiwan is a province of PRC China (as officially recognised by the UN, and counter signed by USA). ROC Taiwan run like a Republic with their own President and their own Currency. As with Australia, they overwhelming majority of citizens are OK with the status quo (where in Australia, we also have a minority group called ARM, the Australian Republican Movement, who create some noise, but we ignore them because we don't care, as long as England does not bother us). China is NOT going to invade ROC Taiwan, because ROC Taiwan is already a province of China. England is NOT going to invade Australia because Australia is already a Commonwealth of England. These discussion of ROC Taiwan and PRC China are extremely disrespectful ... all because USA wants to create another Proxy War, this time in South East Asia.

As a fellow Australian you have to realise by now that this country is also run by zio nazis and they will back US every way. Look at the money all of a sudden to weapons $368billion in 4yrs for nuclear submarines, japan-au (US silent partner) underwater warfare project, those are clear sign that US is making military bases (in AU, Japan, Philippines) with the purpose of using our countries for a proxy war with China (same as Ukraine and look at the devastation there).

China's Belt and Road Initiative is not only growing China's trade with the Global South. It's also enabling Chinese industries to access raw materials more efficiently. In many cases, it has enabled those industries to lock in crucial components of their supply chains, which is an obvious threat to Western competitors.

    • @hhf39p

I sit as a peon, making idle observations. It is a nice question you raise. I have heard some in Southeast Asia saying they prefer to deal with the Chinese than with more conventional capital sources. However, China has now made two laws they say apply to everyone in the world. One was no complaining about China taking over in Hong Kong. And the other is no saying that Taiwan should be independent. They have also gone around the world having countries sign a document agreeing that Taiwan should not be independent. In other words, they are leveraging their belt and road loans, which many governments are behind on, to have government agree to Chinese policy and laws. This has also given them extra leverage at the UN. Consequently there are people calling Belt and Road a policy of debt enslavement. I found it very interesting that one of the justifications the Chinese gave for the Hong Kong Security Law being international is that 'The Americans did the same thing before" and they cited some of the worst of American policies. I.e. two wrongs make a right, or the first one creates the precedent for the Chinese to do it too. It would be so much better if they aspired to making a better world rather than demanding their seat at the table for carving up the world.

For decades, China has been purchasing Western-made chips at high prices and considered imposing high tariffs on them but was restricted by WTO rules. China has long sought to develop a domestic chip supply chain. Thanks to U.S. policies under the Trump administration, China has accelerated the development of a complete chip ecosystem, covering both upstream and downstream industries. China has several major chip hub cities, which are home to many semiconductor companies, research institutions, and startups involved in chip design, manufacturing, and testing, while also integrating talent, research, and a robust supply chain network.

That's why I respect him even more. People like him in the West are so uninterested in listening to what Powell has to say that they wouldn't even start a conversation on the subject, let alone be willing to not constantly and derailingly interrupt someone with this perspective. With respect to Taiwan issue. We have to pay attention to the why and how neocons in Washington can do and want to do to provoke and inflict a military confrontation over Taiwan. I think Chinese is fully aware of the tricky part of neocons thinking which is to use Taiwan as a proxy to fight against China and at the same time to raise economic sanction (including seize of China foreign reserve and assets), yet China is only aimed to take on US when Taiwan issue comes to realization. This suggests Pentagon must do its calculation before march on its fleet, which is why PLA is purposefully and overtly flexing its muscle observable by the Pentagon. With the overwhelming firepower near the coast of China, the Pentagon had done numerous war game without any one predicted US on the winning side, and the US political elite know they will NO longer be a global hegemon, but a regional power to north American with collapsed dollar bankruptcy when the conflict with PLA is ended.
