New to your channel. Been a long-time Nike fan and have predominantly ran in Nikes. Only coming back to running again after having been gone for several years (how I've missed it!), been really interesting to pick up where I left off, if you will, and learn what the shoes of today are doing, and how runners can use them. Keep up the amazing content!
Lpve the detailed look at different rotations here. As you know, I don't really use the Peg Plus as a Speed Shoe myself. But I can totally see why you would. For me there are just too many other faster shoes out there I would use over it. The Zoom Fly 6 is a different story. For me that shoe has 90% of the performance of a Vaporfly.
Ya, it still surprises me. The PP was fast out of the box for me...literally. I've only recently warmed up to it for easy running. I agree on the ZF6...I hope we are getting a preview of the VF3 with that shoe. The presence of the plate and the added width under the toes make it a very different ride from the VF3.
That was an awesome interview with Andrew. Regarding rotations, you identified types of rotations I hadn't considered. I've always pigeonholed myself into the marathon rotation.
There are lots of options right now from all brands. I find that fascinating. I'll be doing something similar to this for Adidas in the coming weeks and for Asics in the spring.
@SagasuRunning I am so looking forward to those discussions. Not coincidentally, I have an Adidas rotation, an Asics rotation, and a Boston rotation (NB, Puma-US, Reebok, Saucony, Topo). So, these upcoming discussions directly apply to me. 🏃♂️ 👟
I always maintain a full Nike and Adidas rotation… lately an Asics one as well and then I can mix and match with one offs from other brands here and there.
@SagasuRunning As an oft injured runner, I mix up heel drops and midsoles to avoid muscle adaptation. I do not use the same shoe two days in a row, and I certainly don't use plated trainers on consecutive days. In fact, I minimize plated trainers to maybe once a week depending on the workout.
I also try not to use the same shoe back-to-back days either. Really only when I’m testing a shoe (too see how they handle it and the foams wear). I also try to mix drops on a weekly basis as well. For the same reasons.
Was listening to Doctors of Running podcast the other day (up there with this channel as my favourite shoe-nerd content) and they gave a shout out to the Rival Fly 4 in their shoes of the year too, which was cool.
Dr. Matthew Klein is a fan of Japanese racing flats (like me) and I have noticed that a few of them have really warmed up to the RF4. It really is a blast from the past, very unexpected.
Your feelings about the streak fly 1 remind me of my feelings (as a heavier & adidas-favoring runner) about the Boston 12 in 2025 - a great shoe that I love, but if you look at the product spread, there’s a better shoe for every niche you could find, just out of Adidas’ own lineup
Good content here. You’ve got me stuck between the rival fly 4 and adidas adios 9 now 😂. Also, I wanted to ask you if you think you will cover some Mizuno content in 2025? Thank you.
I’ll have a A9 vs RF4 video this weekend. I’m not opposed to Mizuno, just nothing interests me as of yet. There will be plenty of Asics content though and other random Japanese things as I’ll be in and out of Japan this year more.
Ha. They are fun, aren’t they. I still take them out every once in a while. Definitely a capable shoe, oddly, but not for most people. I’d love Nike to rerelease a batch of the actual running ones they did a a few years ago.
Thanks for making this video. Last year I also tried other brands. They are not bad but are not Nike. I understand what you mean by the Nike "Feel3 100%. So this video will help me getting back to a full Nike shoe rotation. If've one question, where do you see the Pegasus Premium?
@ Thanks, looking forward to them. But I can assume that the Pegasus Premium wouldn’t replace the zoom fly 6 because I first need to replace my zoom fly 5. This is my current plan (feedback is welcome ;-)) Recovery: Nike invincible 3 Intervals: Nike zoom fly 5 Tempo: ASICS Nimbus 25TR 90% I do the trainings below as trail runs (Nike React Pegasus Trail 4), but if on the road then: LSD: ASICS Nimbus 25TR Long run: ASICS Nimbus 25TR Endurance: ASICS Nimbus 25TR / Nike invincible 3 Recovery: One of the shoe of the Vomero line Intervals: Nike zoom fly 6 Tempo: Nike zoom fly 6 90% I do the trainings below as trail runs (Nike React Pegasus Trail 4), but if on the road then: LSD: One of the shoe of the Vomero line Long run: One of the shoe of the Vomero line Endurance: One of the shoe of the Vomero line
The Peg Premium likely won’t replace the ZF6, but it could be an alternative for some. As for your interval shoe… interval/tempo shoes is the same… that will be the ZF6.
Simply amazing video! Because of your reviews I am well equiped for the two marathons that I am planning to run in 2025. One rotation will be with my current Vomero 17 the zoom fly 6 and AF3, and for the second one Peg 41, Pegasus plus and VF 3. I will eventually share with you dear Chris, which rotation works better for me. Blessings for you and your wife for this 2025 from your mexican friend
Enjoy testing and comparing them against one another. I'm curious where you end up and which one you prefer. I've been pitting those two against one another for most of 2024 and it's been great fun! DO let me know what you decide. 🤙🏻
Oh excellent info, I'm about to purchase the Zoom Fly 6 (I've already have a Peg 41 & Peg plus) and then the upcoming Vomero 18 but I was hesitate about right choices for half & full marathon with this info I think I'm on right track; the Alphafly probably not on my plans I'll stay with my current AF 2's because it is too much money to spend for this year of races.
Very detailed review! It got me thinking about the marathon racing rotation for the slower paces. I agree with the daily trainer and the tempo shoe. But is the AF3 a good option for a 4-hour marathon? I'm thinking of ZF6 as a safer option.
I mean, it's fine, you'll do fine in the AF3... but I think the ZF6 is better value and likely a shoe that you'll get far more use out of in training, the race and afterwards.
The Pegasus Plus is a very versatile shoe. For me, it's a two-shoe rotation of Peg Plus for daily and tempo then the Alphafly 3/Vaporfly 3 for racing. Pure ZoomX arsenal.
That does work, especially PP/VF3 (V18/AF3 will work well too). A few Japanese Nike pros are rocking that as well. I do like to mix in other foams weekly than the primary super foam I'm racing...which is (one reasons) why I stick to the standard Peg. But a two shoe rotation works well here.
Thank you! And I don’t know if I can claim old school or am I just ancient at this point, but I’ve been living under a rock for certain. I quit running entirely in mid 2014 and managed to never hear of carbon-plated shoes, never really notice this insane max-cushioning and so on. I’ve been back for half a year and still have no clue what to wear, but my fave of the olden days were Flyknit Racers, for everything. I’m not fast, not big on speedwork in general, not into racing anymore, but I’m a forefoot striker and love being closer to the ground and in stiffer shoes for whatever type of run I’m doing. What do you think? Is it Peg Plus, Streakfly or Rival for me?
If you are coming back to running after 10 years... start with the Peg 41. That will be a good all rounder and give you a lot of feel and protection. Then you can think about adding the RF4 if you want something even more classic (it has Flyknit racer vibes too)...or the Peg Plus if you want the traditional feel in a modern super foam. Those are going to be your best three options from Nike right now.
@ they are better for your feet generally, especially when you wear spikes for races and some practices. They can also feel like they benefit more off each other. Many good runners in both collage and pro agree that they are more comfortable and useful.
That thing of collegiate and high school runners training in the Structures seems to be ending a bit. Many of the ones who were I. Then last year have moved to the Peg 41, including a few of the bike name Nike track athletes. We will see where the new Structure line goes… but I’m very much of the opinion of “if you don’t need a stability shoe, you should be in a stability shoe” (based on my running experience over the past 20+ years or more). A neutral flexible trainer is going to be an infinitely better option.
Great perspective on rotation options. I’m a bit of a hybrid/extension of your casual rotation: Easy/Daily - Invincible v3 Daily/Tempo - ZF6 Tempo/Race - VF/AF My wildcards would be Streakfly (possibly the perfect treadmill shoe) and the Tempo Next% (I’m fortunate to still have a couple of these in perfect condition) TBH - there’s been a lot of reaching for the ZF6 of late. Some based on the current season and it’s just so darn good and versatile. I’ve been a fan of the Endo Speed since the v1, but the ZF6 is finally a similar competitor from Nike 👍 Perhaps I need to go back through your collection of content, but I’m curious if you’d ever still pull the VF3 over the AF(1 or 3) for a marathon… asking for a friend (who likes the VF3) 😂 Cheers!
The I3 is an old shoe and will be replaced this year by either the Vomero 18 or Vomero Plus. One could add on a super shoe to the V18/ZF6 combo...but then you just have one of the other rotations. If I had to go race a marathon tomorrow my choice would be between the AF3 and AP4, likely the AF3 though. I discuss it here: ua-cam.com/video/JNAx-_AFvMM/v-deo.html I addressed the Streakfly at the end of this video. It's another old shoe that has been completely eclipsed by the other options for 2025 (and the Adios 9).
Great points on all fronts. That current rotation holds up quite well for me at the moment, but will keep an eye for the V+ when it is released for sure 👍
The SF2 likely will replace the VF3 for general road racing or create a new rotation optimized for shorter road distances. It also might replace the RF4 in the Track & XC rotation for some runners as a flat. The SF2 will decidedly be an aggressive race shoe. Think a Dragonfly for the road.
Rival Fly 4 or Peg Plus. I've done multiple 10-12k total volume workouts on the track in both and find them both great. I also use Vaporfly 3s for key workouts in that range and/or a combo of VF3s then spikes for a few fast reps. All of them have worked well.
Hey man enjoy the channel. Question for you - any issues at any point with ankle or foot pain with Nike flyplates? I want to race marathon/Ironman distance in my Alphafly 3, but my head tells me to run it without the flyplate. I’ve heard the SB2 feels like a plated shoe without the plate?
I've never had issue with a Nike plate. I've had issues with Asics plates, as they are super stiff, but never Nike (or Adidas rods). I can't say if you'll have issue with them. If you want to race in one you should be training in them and that will tell you if they will work.
I’d probably look at pairing the ZF6 with the V18, they will compliment one another well. If you want lower stack the Peg 41 and Peg Plus will go tighter better. For a half… I’d likely want to first combo more though.
@SagasuRunning Thank you, I'll look out for the Zoom Fly 6! So Pegasus Plus doesn't provide enough cushioning/protection for half marathon distance? I ran my first race in the Pegasus 40 - which was okay, not great. How would they compare in terms of protection?
I really like the anatomical forefoot on ZF6! Because of this do they run short? Would you say this is true: The Vomero 17 lack of lateral forefoot stability, Invincible (too soft) Which renders the Pegasus41 as the Daily?
I wouldn't say it has an anatomical forefoot. The lateral toe box taper is less extreme and there is slightly more room ahead of the ball of the foot. I talk about this in my ZF6 review and especially in my ZF6 vs SB2 video(s). The ZF6 is TTS for me, similar length to the AF3. The V17 lacked lateral stability all around, not just in the forefoot..otherwise your statement doesn't make sense. The Pegasus isn't a daily because it's the only option left...it's the daily because it's the best shoe for that role and designed specifically to be that. 🤷🏼♂️
Do you think the zoom fly 6 is a good replacement for the boston 12? I used the boston basically for all my speed workouts and long runs and worked great and now Im looking for a replacement
Sir happy new year can you suggest me best running shoes which i can used for beep running and shuttle running like sira trainings in uk and uae physical tests waiting for your response ❤
You’re going to be doing a lot of quick changes in direction so look for a shoe with good traction and a flexible outsole. Things like a Nike Pegasus 41, Puma Velocity Nitro 3 or a Brooks Ghost.
Do you think the Vomero 18 Plus or Vomero 18 Premium would feature a high-stack, full ZoomX midsole just like the Invincible 3? I like the ride of the Invincible 3 but it is REALLY difficult to get a good lockdown.
Vomero Plus = Invincible 4, so yes. The Vomero Premium has all sorts of crazy going on... just wait until you see it (there are plenty of leaks out there).
Ok you have convinced me to give the Rival Fly 4 a try. I just put in my order for the proto colorway which is even cheaper on closeout. I was confused by your “tempo trainer” label. It seems like you really mean this as a broad category of workout shoe including anything that is not a daily trainer or a premier race shoe?
tempo trainer = a shoe meant (primarily) for faster running (i.e not a plodder, not a super shoe)... I'll be curious what you think of them. If Nike took the current RF4 and changed the foam from Cushlon 3.0 to Phylon and put and Atomknit upper on it...it would be the best race flat they ever made...as it is now it's quite good and refreshing. I'll have a Adios 9 vs RF4 out soon and will get more into it there...
Adios 9 and Evo SL are February releases in the US + slow forwarding to me in Abidjan, so March at the earliest. I was partially motivated by the realization that my adios 8 and adizero SL2 will be kaput long before that and that will be a big problem for me. I have already waited too long given recent trends in mail delays here. And I was in fact a huge Streak lover. Across the 6 and 7 I tracked 12 pairs and it is the most used shoe I have ever had by 4x over #2. I used it for everything up to ultramarathon 56k distance prior to the original Vaporfly. Therefore I must be the target marked “old school” unless it turns out that I’m addicted to supercritical foams now.
Both the RF4 and A9 are going to be shoes you are going to want to acquire. The RF4 is exactly an analog to the old Streaks…. But it’s as close as you’ll find in 2025. It’s worth a try. The two shoes are old school and new school but both very good in different ways. The A9 is currently blowing my mind, but very different from the A8… but still and Adios. Also the Evo SL is VERY good…. I’ll have reviews up in the next week for the A9 and ESL… plus a bunch of “vs” videos z
@@SagasuRunning I was thinking about using the adios 9 to replace my waffles, is that good. I also forgot I mention the glycerins that make their way out once a week.
Well, after watching this video I kept thinking about recent running shoe reorg in Nike. Nike is going with Icon, Plus, Premium model for a number of shoes but on the other hand they have ZoomFly, RivalFly, StreakFly plus VF and AF on their lineup (just talking road shoes). I am not very sure Icon, Plus, Premium labels will turn things around for Nike. At the end of the day more than the label, individual shoes will speak for their merit in the rotation like always like you did in this video.
The new tiers give Nike room to develop and innovate the core training lines, without disturbing the "icon" models some of us love. Over time I think they will finesse the tiers a bit. Not ever silhouette needs every model and the names will evolve, as they always do. As for the racing lines, the "...fly" shoes. it finally seems cohesive and streamlined and the shoe make sense together. One or two will get an "elite" tier, but not all. What is most important is they have room for R&D now.
I addressed the SF at the end. It is an old shoe that has been eclipsed by the three options in this video (and the Adios 9). Plus it is being replaced for 2025 with the SF2, which becomes a VERY different shoe.
I really like the streakfly for intervals and slow paces. But the shoe is falling apart after 30km. I had to reglue the shoe twice, and restitch the laceloop. Terrible construction but grest shoe.
The Zoomfly is closer to the max effort than tempo because it is designed to be a tempo trainer for elite athletes who are much faster than the average person. I think an elite athlete would say that the Zoomfly is definitely more tempo than max effort.
No elites are using the ZF6 for workouts. You see EK in press photo and JI wears some old ZF4s on the treadmill once in a while... but Nike elites are treating the VF3 as a tempo shoe. Watch what they do key workouts in, especially speed workouts, it's nearly always a VF3. The ZF6 isn't for elites...it's for average runners... and designed very well to be a great tempo shoe.
Ha. So much non Nike content headed to the channel. I had some Nike stuff to get through first. I’m a full brand runner, regardless of the brand. All of nothing for me. I like how products are designed to work together and complement one another.
New to your channel. Been a long-time Nike fan and have predominantly ran in Nikes. It really is something special... I fully agree.

Just like you said not to, i have been using my school color Cortez's for my quick work. It is every bit as much fun as i thought it would be.
Ha. They are fun, aren’t they. I still take them out every once in a while. Definitely a capable shoe, oddly, but not for most people. I’d love Nike to rerelease a batch of the actual running ones they did a a few years ago.

I need to run in the Peg Pre to know for sure... I'm thinking two areas...I'll have plenty of content on it once I do run in them. Stay tuned.
@
Thanks, looking forward to them.
But I can assume that the Pegasus Premium wouldn’t replace the zoom fly 6 because I first need to replace my zoom fly 5.
This is my current plan (feedback is welcome ;-))
Recovery: Nike invincible 3
Intervals: Nike zoom fly 5
Tempo: ASICS Nimbus 25TR
90% I do the trainings below as trail runs (Nike React Pegasus Trail 4), but if on the road then:
LSD: ASICS Nimbus 25TR
Long run: ASICS Nimbus 25TR
Endurance: ASICS Nimbus 25TR / Nike invincible 3
Recovery: One of the shoe of the Vomero line
Intervals: Nike zoom fly 6
Tempo: Nike zoom fly 6
90% I do the trainings below as trail runs (Nike React Pegasus Trail 4), but if on the road then:
LSD: One of the shoe of the Vomero line
Long run: One of the shoe of the Vomero line
Endurance: One of the shoe of the Vomero line
The Peg Premium likely won’t replace the ZF6, but it could be an alternative for some.
As for your interval shoe… interval/tempo shoes is the same… that will be the ZF6.

Hii sir i recently buy takumi sen 10 uk 9 now i open all the laces and face problem to make same again because of the tongue shape laces design
Can you make a short videos on all types of laces how to torn and tie thanks for understanding
Best thing to do is to look at the pictures from the Adidas website and lace the laces like that. The easiest way.
I have been thinking of a lacing video, but not covering basic lacing like this… but more to solve for problems. Maybe later this year.
Thank you! And I don’t know if I can claim old school or am I just ancient at this point, but I’ve been living under a rock for certain.
I discuss it here: ua-cam.com/video/JNAx-_AFvMM/v-deo.html
I addressed the Streakfly at the end of this video. It's another old shoe that has been completely eclipsed by the other options for 2025 (and the Adios 9).
Great points on all fronts. That current rotation holds up quite well for me at the moment, but will keep an eye for the V+ when it is released for sure 👍
That rotation was a solid one for a long time (ZF6 replaced with a ZF4) that many runners I knew in NYC depended on.
Tried and true by the sounds of it. Much appreciated! 👍
I’m curious where the Streakfly 2 will fit into the rotation? It seems like the Zoomfly 6 and SF2 will have a lot of overlap.
For a track athlete would you recommend the nike zoom fly for longer intervals (around 10k for the whole intervals) or another shoe?
Rival Fly 4 or Peg Plus. I've done multiple 10-12k total volume workouts on the track in both and find them both great. I also use Vaporfly 3s for key workouts in that range and/or a combo of VF3s then spikes for a few fast reps. All of them have worked well.
Do you know if in the new Zoom Fly 6 "Premium" the only difference is the color? Thank you.
Yes
Hey man enjoy the channel. Question for you - any issues at any point with ankle or foot pain with Nike flyplates? I want to race marathon/Ironman distance in my Alphafly 3, but my head tells me to run it without the flyplate. I’ve heard the SB2 feels like a plated shoe without the plate?
I've never had issue with a Nike plate. I've had issues with Asics plates, as they are super stiff, but never Nike (or Adidas rods).
I can't say if you'll have issue with them. If you want to race in one you should be training in them and that will tell you if they will work.
@SagasuRunning - what do you think about Vomero 18 as daily shoe and Pegasus Plus as combined tempo/race shoe for targeting sub-2 hour half marathons?
I’d probably look at pairing the ZF6 with the V18, they will compliment one another well. If you want lower stack the Peg 41 and Peg Plus will go tighter better. For a half… I’d likely want to first combo more though.
@SagasuRunning Thank you, I'll look out for the Zoom Fly 6! So Pegasus Plus doesn't provide enough cushioning/protection for half marathon distance? I ran my first race in the Pegasus 40 - which was okay, not great. How would they compare in terms of protection?
@RusselCrow I mean, for some it will be ok, but generally i don’t think most people would enjoy it.
Yes. A very good one. It is a better shoe as well. Better fitting (by a lot), my dynamic midsole and geometry. Not just a replacement, but an upgrade.
@@SagasuRunningthanks for your response
In fact my daughter has still clung to hers and recently ran a half marathon in her last pair of Streak 7.
I use Boston 12 as my daily shoe, takumi sen 10 as my flat and temp shoe, although I do like racing in the dragonflys
Do you feet a favor and do more of your easy running in a non plated (rod) shoe...
@ that’s what my rival waffles are for once a week.
That’s a hardcore change… maybe look at a Pegasus of SL2 for more running. The Evo SL is also a replacement for the B12…
@@SagasuRunning I was thinking about using the adios 9 to replace my waffles, is that good. I also forgot I mention the glycerins that make their way out once a week.
@@SagasuRunning I was also thinking about picking up the adios 9 or Novablast 5. Also I occasionally use brooks glycerins once a week.
For me ZoomFly is versatile shoes. Cant go wrong also for easy run...
It definitely is, though I'd limit the easy running in a plated shoe. Do your feet a favor and do more of that in non-plated shoes.
What if ur in California and ur in the only state that doesnt do spikes and uses vaporflys?
Use VFs then... but in XC courses with soft ground and lots of corners I bet the RF4 would be the better option.
You may want to consider the Streakfly in one of those rotations
I addressed the SF at the end. It is an old shoe that has been eclipsed by the three options in this video (and the Adios 9). Plus it is being replaced for 2025 with the SF2, which becomes a VERY different shoe.
I really like the streakfly for intervals and slow paces. But the shoe is falling apart after 30km. I had to reglue the shoe twice, and restitch the laceloop. Terrible construction but grest shoe.
The Peg Plus is the SF, but built as a trainer. Same feel, better durability.
I can’t go back to Nike after switching to asics and saucony
We all have our preferences. Asics has a compelling product line with full rotations. Saucony, is a bit more mixed...but their fits are awful.
Ya know even Pre mixed it up a bit like with the Adidas SL 72 in the Olympics. "Variety's the very spice of life..." - W. Cowper. Just 'sayin....
Ha. So much non Nike content headed to the channel. I had some Nike stuff to get through first.
I’m a full brand runner, regardless of the brand. All of nothing for me. I like how products are designed to work together and complement one another.
