- Bolsover stretches from Worksop in the North to Nottingham in the South. If you so desired, you could catchba train between the two, along the Robin Hood Line, which would take you on s scenic journey through some of the prettiest villages in Derbyshire. You would stop along the way, at this one.
Originally the Robin Hood Line was just to connect Worksop with this village. There's so much in this one. Way more than the 27 minutes that I've allowed for in this video. The area it covers is quite extensive, taking in a wood and a small hamlet. It used to be much larger too, until the railway split it from it's neighbour.
Here you'll find out about the days of the coal mine, and whats left of it now, and when water was delivered around the village by a horse drawn tank. There's some sporting history too, the modern game of snooker wouldn't have come to be without one famed former resident.
There are six pubs, but there used to be eleven; some greetings cards you may have seen originated here thanks to a local artist; the place has a Well Dressing festival and a music festival every year and you won't miss the exquisite Norman chapel in that aforementioned small hamlet.
All of that, and still there's the small matter of the Shire Oak - and Shireoaks and Rhodesia's videos might make a bit more sense to you after watching this one! This is WHITWELL.

WHITWELL ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- There are some lovely views at the bottom of, and halfway up Hillside
- There’s a ROC post and the sadly broken/destroyed Trig point near it in a field to the North of the Village

- Roger Manners lived at the Hall, the Manor is a completely different building but easily confusing as they both held manors in Whitwell and the Old Hall used to house the Manor Rooms
- On Portland Street towards the Methodist Church you walk past another ex-pub called the Jug & Glass, just a few yards from the home of a ex-Sheffield Steelers netminder - Geoff Woolhouse
Whitwell is such a pretty village! Spent many an hour down there as a teenager!
