It was awesome working with you guys! Excited to see the Franken Stratton in a future vid. When those 2 flatheads were running together it felt like a freight train lol.
Use a much larger sprocket tying the two engines together with a spring tensioned idler to keep the tension so the chain isn't flopping all over, perhaps a heavier chain, then put a torque converter on it! Regardless, I love how you guys stay the same regardless how much money is around for things. Still making stuff any Joe could do with a welder and some parts. Love it! Look forward to your new videos every week!
I think it'd help If both engines were syncronized in relation to the power stroke of the piston. I m guessing that right now that one engine hits the power stroke after the other and it creates a massive torque differential through that chain when the other engine is in the compression stroke for ex.
it will also break the engines, that was my first thought. having 2 motors firing at different times is not good for the mechanical parts I'm sure. But it'll be fine.
Why not use a belt between the two engine's the one already was setup for a belt? Weld a sprocket onto the pulley then the belt will allow them to sync
You should put a clutch on the front engine, put the sprocket side in so it can align with the rear engine sprocket, I think it will work better and also you will only have to start the front engine.
I was thinking figure out the compression stroke on each and set them to 180deg off of each other so it runs like a real 2 cyl! Maybe also a 2 into 1 exhaust? Two smaller headers feeding a double sized? (more cosmetic than performance).
It was cool meeting you guys out there! Y’all were incredibly nice and took the time to talk to me. Cool to meet the dudes behind all the videos I watch, keep up the great builds, dudes.
From what I could see from the other guys doing builds, yours looked the most impressive. I wouldn't consider it a failure, you just learned what not to do. Looking forward to the rebuild of this monster.
Most 'Franken' thing about it is the gearing ratio of the chains... looks like about 6 or 7:1 for a '4 HP engine'... but only needs about 1.5 - 2:1 for 8 + 8 = 16 HP torque !!! ... Would feel like super strong '1st gear only' acceleration... then no shift into 2nd available... The engine braking from letting off the gas would prolly slide the rear wheel... This thing also needs #40 chain instead of lightweight #35 'karting' chain...
This is an older video.... so you guys know you already did a great job.... I just love watching where you began at.......JJ... Ike and you are the men...... for the job......JJ....
Use a belt to connect the two, that way theres a slight amount of slip if the motors dont agree with each other. Make it kind of like a tiller with a tensioner pulley and when they're both idling you can flip the tensioner pulley to connect their power together
Ha ha my buddy had a mini bike like that. It had like a 5” v belt pulley on the crank and the back one was like 3”. Step on the left foot lever and off you went. It tensioned the belt 😂 Keep the engine speed low and help it off the line and get the belt locked as soon as you can before you feed the power.
I'm really glad that I found this channel. I've been rebuilding a 1990 Manco Streaker with a H35 Tecumseh that I bought for $120 off of Craigslist. Go Power Sports was the only place with a compatible seat.
That was helarious when ike was all like," im fine. All is great". But you know in his head he was thinking," man this guy says one more thing im gonna kick his face through the back of his head". LOL
Guys, that thing was awesome Who could give you guys grief about that build? Hell, if you guys had a week, a month, even a full 24 hours that thing could be stellar!
I saw that chain between the motors dancing and I thought, even with synchronized motors, one is gonna fire first and it's all fun and games until someone loses a femoral artery. I dunno about this as a solution get the motors timed as close as you can and short the spark plugs together or trigger the magneto primaries together off one motor.
I was literally thinking of how I would do a twin engine mini bike over the winter. I couldn’t believe it was you guys pulling this off. That little rig really turned out great. I’m thinking about doing it with three wheels in-line with two engines.
Awesome build guys. It is not a failure when parts break. That just means you get a better part that won’t fail. Get two new Crankshafts then get the right sprockets. While your in there hone and add new total sealed rings. Remove gov. Clean and paint and reinstall! It will be FINE!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Your talking to a guy who started trying to learn cars 2 days ago I used to have a go kart as a kid.I have so much to learn about engines but I think the mini bike engine is where I should start when try to grasp the fundamentals of the engine .You guys are really knowledgeable on engines I enjoyed the walkthrough.
Looks like you guys all had a blast and good job on the quick build. I was wondering if maybe the engine power pulses were working against each other causing that sync chain to go bananas. Seems that it would be hard to ever smooth that out very much even with additional idler sprockets, but I could be wrong. Maybe stagger the engines left to right and use two rear sprockets, two chains, and the two clutches. That way each engine could be independently connected to the rear axle and they could be started separately and use the clutches to smooth the power between the two. I'm just thinking is all my friends. Again great job and I look forward to what you come up with next.
ok so that answered my question if yall had it shipped back home...it's very cool of GPS to cover the cost of shipping it to yall..i'm guessing the franken will be up and running again in a couple weeks..i don't think i would want to take it to busco but it would be a cool put put to go check the mail with or a good advertising scoot for a local business..well done guys..never disappointed with yall
Frankenstein's monster here... gonna be so awesome to see it working! One little shattered sprocket is nothing. This is Cars & Cameras; It'll be fine. ;)
Love it so far, can't wait to see it perfected! I was thinking some gussets in the corners of the frame and a chain tensioner between the engines could probably help
The build is awesome guys and I can't wait to see it on the channel getting done the right way. It's gonna be a fast machine once it's done and I can't wait for the notification. Great job guys
My 2 cents... Looks good. It was funny seeing Ike and RBW going at it. I think Chris is great, but being a mechanic myself I see Ike's point of view. The three of you are absolutely my favorites. Not a big rbg fan.
I saw Isaac was irritated, but Chris is a great asset to your team. He is a better welder and fabricator. Also, how long did was it before you realised starting one engine will start the other?
I can feel for Ike, I'm a "it'll be fine" clutter and chaos guy, my brother is like Chris, do it right regardless oftime/cost, everything in its place, minimal is to much kind and he just moved in with me!!!
I can feel for both of them, I'm more of a clutter and chaos guy myself, but I grew up learning to do stuff by helping my dad. He'd learned courtesy of the USAF, and at 21 was responsible for keeping a multi million dollar nuclear armed bomber ready for a mission that thankfully never came. Dad was always particular about how stuff was done, and later on after dealing with projects that had been jury rigged I came to appreciate his way of doing things. Yes, it takes time, but if it prevents a problem down the road it's usually time well spent.
sometimes I wish I could be more organized, detail oriented, like when I KNOW I bought the stuff for a project but cant find it so I have to go buy more
5 people said "first comment." i say we do a deathmatch for the winner! btw, the bike was super cool, and with a little tinkering, i bet you can make it actually run right like that
I don't know if you felt this way about the motors and I don't know which one it was but I was feeling that one of the motors was running better than the other so when you pull them to start them one would start the other one would not and then while the one was running it was turning over the other motor and spinning it to where it would finally fire if both them Motors were running smoothly which I believe they were not that would have been tits on. But, it's going to be that way. You guys wouldn't have it any other way!! fantastic job your winners in my book and everybody everyone else's too and, I saw the animosity : ) Isn't that right Ike? But you know what? You do I do and a lot of other people got dudes number. He's a flake and he's weird. I like his work but he's simply weird. You guys just keep being you. Thanks
Words cannot describe the AWESOME. I sincerely hope that - in honor of its green namesake - the FrankenStratton gets a nice coat of that stripper-glitter green paint that adorns the mini-Dragula! Hondas are "reliable"; Tecumsehs are esoteric. For me, nothing beats a Briggs-n-Strattocaster. 😜
Also if getting the shaft turned may find actual dual timing chain like 2 small sprockets and the chain from a 22re timing set ($80) might be the ticket.
Ike, John, have you considered running the engines in parallel (but separate) via 2 clutches? One clutch per engine, 2 chains to the rear axle (2 separate axle sprockets), front engine shifted to the right ~1 inch so the chain will clear/pass the rear engine. This way, you could start/run the engines separate. Let me know what you think.
We're trying to get our hands on clutches with two sprockets on them. We can run one regular clutch on the forward engine, then a dual sprocket clutch on the rear (one sprocket tying the two together, and the other sprocket leading to the jackshaft). That's the plan!
Isaac it'll be fine understandable, Ike. We know you guys were on a tight schedule. What I was meaning is all the projects I've done as well as friends, it seems the littlest thing you ignore, thinking, ah, it's no big deal...will come back with a vengence..a buddy put his rider engine together without waiting for me to help assemble it, good guy, but knows just enough about tools and engines to be dangerous. I got there, the engine was put together, and running. His wife was cutting grass. He looked at me proudly and said, see? I didn't need a hotshot mower mechanic, I did it myself....just then, there was a loud CLANK from the mower and it stopped. The rod broke from the rod bolts coming loose. I asked him, where's the rod bolts retainer? (It's a thin piece of steel that goes over the rod bolts that you been the tab on it over the bolt to lock it in place) he dug on his bench and held it up and said, this? I didn't think it was important..🤔🙄
dave1135 well that's a good story but that's not skipping a lil thing, that's an idiot with a wrench. We all know THAT guy. Mines my neighbor. But Ike was right, look at the next shot. That frame had been lovingly gone over till it was perfect instead of skipping a lil ugly weld and finishing the important stuff. That probably cost em 30 mins right there, not to mention the bickering over stupid shit and all the other little nitpicking wastes of time. Ike gets shit done. Plain and simple. That RBW dweeb is antisocial and opinionated with super thin skin. I'm proud of Ike for not laying him out, can't say I'd have the same restraint. And for the record, that gear broke cause someone cut a keyway in an already thin gear, you know, instead of welding some strength into it. 🤔 food for thought.
Definitely a fun build! Not surprised by the breakages, a chain and sprockets have a hard time being as strong as the crankshaft between two cylinders, and sometimes those break!
You should link them with a belt, leave the belt a little loose and then put a pulley on a lever to tighten it when you get one running, then the running engine will turn the second engine over starting it, just make sure that you make room for the hand clutch to cam over so you don't have to hold it. I've done it and it works great.
The idea is insane but props to you guys for going for it! The idea of starting both engines at once seems like a huge pain. How did you guys like working with Rather B Welding?
Isaac it'll be fine good to hear, I just watched all his videos for the 2 speed offroad go kart. Seems like a pretty knowledgeable guy. Hopefully you guys can get this Franken-Stratton going properly!
So many great things about this video, what is not to like...?!? Great job all the way around too everyone! I mean that! From the build, to capturing everything you did on camera. It is hard enough just being out of your own environment, much less to throw all this together... Hard for many (including myself) to even fathom i am sure. Again, really great job to all! On a side note, i get ya Chris... I really do bud ; ) Been a little busy lately, so i am just catching up on your guys videos, but i am having a great time with material like this to watch! Home run fellas!
Timing belts are the perfect way to couple motors if you guys ever do this again. They keep timing but they have a enough give to not beat up the motors.
I think you’re being too hard on yourselves. It’s not like you had a plan to work from. No one knows exactly what sprocket or throttle cable set up to use on a 2 engine mini bike. Can’t google that. Good job fellas.
Yous guyscdid an awesome job!..im super proud of what you were able to throw together in two days amazing job guys..ill have to come hang out i have been told im the king of fixing things..best jerry rigger ever..lol.
I can't wait till you guys circle back on this and make it awesome, it's pretty badass as is considering. Really is the "it'll be fine" of the season so far.
It was awesome working with you guys! Excited to see the Franken Stratton in a future vid. When those 2 flatheads were running together it felt like a freight train lol.
Build Break Repeat thanks. I hope we can do more of this in the future. Lol i look like i dont get along with chris in this video
Isaac it'll be fine no just creative differences . Great work guys
Chris was right about worrying about the little things first. He doesnt half ass things.
Build Break Repeat how many horse is the black one someone just gave me one for a mini bike build.
I can't wait to see you guys turn those flatheads into hot rods
Use a much larger sprocket tying the two engines together with a spring tensioned idler to keep the tension so the chain isn't flopping all over, perhaps a heavier chain, then put a torque converter on it! Yes, phasing between the two engines will break that chain in time. But for now "it'll be fine".
it will also break the engines, that was my first thought. having 2 motors firing at different times is not good for the mechanical parts I'm sure. But it'll be fine.

Experimental Fun that makes so much since. Wonder if we are overthinking that and there’s no way it could work😂
exactly what I was going to suggest.
I was thinking figure out the compression stroke on each and set them to 180deg off of each other so it runs like a real 2 cyl! Maybe also a 2 into 1 exhaust? Two smaller headers feeding a double sized? (more cosmetic than performance).
Jeff Kephart 2 in one exhaust would be so cool.
Oh yeah a clutch on the front engine would work cause when you go to give it throttle it will engage the front engine, genius dude Genius !!!
It was cool meeting you guys out there! Y’all were incredibly nice and took the time to talk to me. Cool to meet the dudes behind all the videos I watch, keep up the great builds, dudes.
doctorlobsteroctopus thanks for coming out
Ike is like just send it and Chris actually thinks stuff out
From what I could see from the other guys doing builds, yours looked the most impressive. I wouldn't consider it a failure, you just learned what not to do. Looking forward to the rebuild of this monster.
what the hell...I like it , I like it a lot
Right? I can't wait to see more of this thing!

"I dub thee, Franken-Stratten!" Awesome!
"it's got oil in it" That's a win.
Great idea, great name!! Fix it! Love the channel!
awesome at one another finnish have find this channel ihave watch these guys a long time and really like what they do
torille?
yes torille (its like marketplace)
This is an older video.... so you guys know you already did a great job.... I just love watching where you began at.......JJ... Ike and you are the men...... for the job......JJ....

cute Warlock, got an old Hondo H1 that I put an EMG and a Floyd into.
Ha ha my buddy had a mini bike like that.
It had like a 5” v belt pulley on the crank and the back one was like 3”.
Step on the left foot lever and off you went.
It tensioned the belt 😂
Keep the engine speed low and help it off the line and get the belt locked as soon as you can before you feed the power.
I agree the sprocket would of never broke had it been a belt pulley/ tensioner setup
Well done for only having 20 hours to build it. Can't wait to see it done completely. Too cool guys.
Very cool, I really like this build. Great job guys, keep them coming. *CarsandCameras* still on my short list as best of UA-cam
This thing was pretty sick. I'm glad y'all are going to get to continue work on it. Thanks Go Power Sports!
Do you guys know what your doing?? Ike. No
lmao
I'm really glad that I found this channel. I've been rebuilding a 1990 Manco Streaker with a H35 Tecumseh that I bought for $120 off of Craigslist. Go Power Sports was the only place with a compatible seat.
I'd love to see that Franken Stratton at Cars and Cameras HQ
A bad day building mini bikes is better then a good day at work! Keep it up and Givasum!
That was helarious when ike was all like," im fine. All is great". But you know in his head he was thinking," man this guy says one more thing im gonna kick his face through the back of his head". LOL
Guys, that thing was awesome
Who could give you guys grief about that build?
Hell, if you guys had a week, a month, even a full 24 hours that thing could be stellar!
Both engines deserve to run, all the project was smart And well built
TIME challege won't be there next time. You can make her a 16HP beauty!
Loving the flames out the exhaust pipes. Wicked build, look forward to when you get it home and reallly get it going.
Get a v twin ignition coil off a riding mower and extent one of the wires.
@@jeffbroxton988 hate to break it to you, but V-Twin engines use two separate coils
@@RubyIsBored look up 394891. The engine series is 402707. Opposed twin engine. It may still work with a V-series engine as well.
I was literally thinking of how I would do a twin engine mini bike over the winter. I couldn’t believe it was you guys pulling this off. That little rig really turned out great. I’m thinking about doing it with three wheels in-line with two engines.
awesome build you just needed more time
Awesome build guys.
It is not a failure when parts break.
That just means you get a better part that won’t fail.
Get two new Crankshafts then get the right sprockets. While your in there hone and add new total sealed rings. Remove gov.
Clean and paint and reinstall!
It will be FINE!!
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
These guys are so Roadkill. I love it.
Mini(bike) Roadkill FTW!
I am so glad you guys let me sit on it. I got to show it to my class and they were freaking out!😝😝
Too many mechanics on one project, that makes it hard without all the other challenges.
This was an awesome build guys! Can't wait to see how it turns out once you guys have more time to play with it!
Great build guys. Love the ingenuity.
Definitely a ambitious build for only 20hrs. With that sead. Great job i would call it a success. I like it.
I feel there was a bit of tension between issac an chris lol great work guys 😁
It's awesome how all the channels i watch with diy builds came together
ooooh the chain between the two motors dances a lot
They need to match engine RPMs. In this case, shaft RPMs need to be perfect. Actually needs two identical engines with matching shaft diameters.
Now it needs four engines!
Man, you guys rock! Crescent Fresh!
Looks like you guys all had a blast and good job on the quick build. I was wondering if maybe the engine power pulses were working against each other causing that sync chain to go bananas. Never stop making these videos... I love you guys!
We didn't have room for the brake, so we just took it off. I love you guys.
My absolute two top channels that I'm constantly looking at!!!
That is pure love :)
Frankenstein's monster here... gonna be so awesome to see it working!
One little shattered sprocket is nothing. This is Cars & Cameras; It'll be fine. ;)
Love it so far, can't wait to see it perfected! I was thinking some gussets in the corners of the frame and a chain tensioner between the engines could probably help
the kid knows his stuff ike gotta give em that
At least not act so mad when someone is doing the work and has a idea
The build is awesome guys and I can't wait to see it on the channel getting done the right way. It's gonna be a fast machine once it's done and I can't wait for the notification. Great job guys
it was great entertainment, thank you all.
My 2 cents... Looks good. It was funny seeing Ike and RBW going at it. I think Chris is great, but being a mechanic myself I see Ike's point of view.

5 people said "first comment." i say we do a deathmatch for the winner!
btw, the bike was super cool, and with a little tinkering, i bet you can make it actually run right like that
for sure front engine exhaust valve issue.
Dude that mini bike is awesome. I want to see it come back and get fixed. Like Ike said “it’ll be fine”.
You two need to do that without help, your kings of rigging things that work
Big thumbs up guys. That chain-hop made me nervous from my couch.
Anyone else play 7dtd? Looks like the minibike from that game
Cool build guys.
Also if getting the shaft turned may find actual dual timing chain like 2 small sprockets and the chain from a 22re

It would be somehow poetic to use a HARLEY chain (the motor to gear box one) between the engines!
You should call it "the buddys-bike", because its a two-seater and you need a buddy to start it. Nice project, I love it!

Paul D yep, small things that are ignored early come back later to be big things that bite you in the butt
Paul D yes but we didnt have time. We finished the bike with no time to spare
I think chris, wants to do it the right way..
And the, it'll be fine attitude you have. Is just a cheap way of saying you dont care about it...

That front chain is scary.
_It'll be fine..._
that bike is scary..
You guys had fun. That is what counts!
Larry Yaw Absolutely!!
Totally scary how loose that front chain is! I'd hate for it to come loose and rip somebody's leg! >0.0
David and Mike would be proud
Tie two engines together with one chain. NO. Any person with any mechanical knowledge will tell you NO.
Timing belts are the perfect way to couple motors if you guys ever do this again. They keep timing but they have a enough give to not beat up the motors.
Awesome , You need to add some ape hanger handle bars :-)
I can't wait to see the finished FrankenStratton product after you guys get time to really give it the effort it deserves.
What happened to the two speed bike that you found
Joe Sloan I believe they said it was too nice to chop up so they went and got this bike
KingBryant more that it was really rare and to cool to chop up then nice
Aiden yaekel1 you're right
I'd love to see how exactly that 2-speed arrangement works!
That bike deserves a full restoration in my opinion.
Brodie Bennett maybe a little upgrading because those engines are dogs but keep it pretty stock
I'd say yall did pretty damn good for a spur of the moment 20 hour build. It did move under its own power. So, thats a win in my book.
Brandon Cox lol. Thanks
Wish you would have had clutchs on both motors ?
The Franken-Stratton is an AWESOME BUILD! You've gotta bring it back and race it against the Rat Rod Wagon!
Ike is fuuuuming!
It was all in good fun
"It'll Be Fine"
I think its badass! The only thing id do different is put a clutch on both engines so they dont have to be timed perfectly together.
What if you changed the joint chain with a serpentine belt? That way there would be less of a shock transferred to the second engine
Awesome job guys!!!
Great jod. I have been following since day one, dig all your stuff. That being said this build is by far f:÷/>[]. A1.
Awesome build all off y'all!!
Oh god
Love the content. Super glad to see y'all with "Rather B" he's a damn good guy & does great work himself!!! Killa colab Brotiens!!!

I can't wait till you guys circle back on this and make it awesome, it's pretty badass as is considering. Really is the "it'll be fine" of the season so far.
