How to Swaddle a Newborn Baby

In this video, my wife demonstrates how to swaddle a newborn - in our case Lucas, who was born prematurely at 30 weeks and 6 days. Lucas stayed in the NICU for 57 days before being released home. Lucas has been used to being swaddled from his days in the NICU and so we continued that practice.
Swaddling is relatively easy but there are certain things you can do wrong, including having the swaddle blanket too tight around the hips and legs. Babies need the freedom to move their legs to ensure proper hip growth, development and to prevent hip dysplasia.
We swaddled both of our kids until they were about 9 months old and we barely had a bad night.
