      It is a matter of time. The distance is doable, so it is about time. Time was the problem for me with my capacities. And time is a problem for documenting too. Not easy to cover 80 days.

      Very diverse. Among Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, the landscape can turn from humid forest to dry steppe in a couple of miles. You have space, a lot of emptiness that makes any trip look magnificent… and not only on movies.

    I once managed a team supporting a rider in the Race Across America so I followed a cyclist doing this trip, West to East. They have to do it in 12 days, it is brutal. I think your pace was much better, you experience more and achieve more, speed is not necessarily the best thing.
    I hope you took the lessons of the ride into your life when you returned.

    Excellent record of your great trip, Vlady. Having solo biked across Australia, then back, 40k km over four years, I can appreciate the effort you put into this. That drone provides a lot of context. My travels were from 2009 to 2013, so drones weren't a thing, and being remote much of the time on dirt roads away from town was unable to recharge batteries easily and didn't allow for much video footage. You nailed it, however, without being selfie-focused like so many bike touring. Inspiring stuff.

    This is really superb, I can completely relate each and everything you mentioned in the video other than the landscape.
    Though it was not lengthy and tough as yours, i also completed a recent cycle trip covering South to North of an Indian state- Kerala covering 900km in 9 days.
    Mine was more on beach side, a few kms through forest and a lot on hills and finally the worst in highways sharing road with heavy trucks and speedy cars.
    Not being a sports person and not sure of my limits, , just like you, I also didn't reveal my destination to anyone in the beginning, just told the cities coming next as destination, except for the last few days. Covered each day and place, with the spirit of crossing the levels of a video game.
    I was also overwhelmed by the greetings of people on the road. People asking about the journey, motive and destination.
    Offering tea, preparing food specially for me. Waving entree fee for me.
    Finally finishing the journey with the great feel of satisfaction and memories for life. Can't describe it fully.
    I always wondered why people going for this weird adventures and trip, i think now i know a bit of it, though not fully.

    There's a concept known as "Stealth Camping". Camp out of sight. Put your tent up right as it gets dark. There's almost nowhere in the USA where you can't pitch a tent. If the cops come, they'll just ask you to leave (if that). I pedaled the Katy Trail and couldn't find camping twice. Just pitched my tent on the side of the trail at dusk and was gone at first light. A few folks that saw me just went by and laughed.

The early locomotives could only go that far without refilling with water and towns grew up around the RR water towers. Thank you for putting together a video that shows how nice and friendly America can be. Being local American, one just often hears how much better some other location can be. I know that is not the point, but it just seems rare to hear it. It also helps me want to make the bike ride along the length of Florida in the near term. Not as long as your own trip, but something interesting to see a lot of the state.

    I gave myself 10 minutes to watch a a few shorts before heading out into the garden for the day. 1 hour 20 minutes and 25 seconds later… great video and congratulations! Made me remember forgotten parts of my rides across the country. I apologize for my home state of Indiana; it’s not at all visually interesting and although generally known for being flat, it’s actually fecund with frustratingly short but steep hills over and over and over and…

      That is true! Sudden steep climbs there too, nears major rivers. The towns were cool! Indiana is nice, but the countryside is somehow familiar for me; it could be northern Italy’s plains or Hungary.

    A beautiful documentary. I would like to suggest some following things. I found you lacked introducing your warm showers hosts, also you didn't introduce to your fellow cyclist that you met on the way. Finally, you did not show anything of Jeffrey City. It would much richer in content, if you did. Next time maybe.

    A great video. Big compliment. I imagine staying overnight in the USA is very complicated. Cities are far apart and wild camping is often forbidden. What is your experience with this?

    • @vladywashere
      @vladywashere  11 місяців тому

      Very true! Having a plan would be perfect, but a cyclist must be flexible. The east of Mississippi was expensive as I did camp only occasionally. One aim to reach a town, but once in a town you are seducted by motels 😂. A work around this situation is to sleep somewhere out of the towns, hiding. That was not easy and not easy to think, in the Easter half. On the west, things were much more handy. Small towns are used to have travelers. Free campings are common, and common are the national forests.

    80km per day, Big deal that's only 49.6 miles. I did a ride like that, last weekend, just to get to a camp ground. Took me 5 hours. Spent two nights at the camp ground, then went home 50 miles. Only took me 3.5 hours, because it was all downhill. Now when you can do 80 miles in a day, day after day, I will be impressed.

    Vlady, I completed a similar ride this summer, traveling from San Diego to Dayton, OH. Covering 2,471 miles between 8 May to 6 July 2023. I averaged 54 miles for 46 days of riding. 14 days of non-riding for rest, weather, or medical (ulcers on both corneas caused by infection due to sweat, wind, & dirt. Your documentary reflects my journey and experiences pretty much exact. Visually, emotionally, physically, mechanically, experiences, almost identical! I took lots of pictures, but only a couple videos as I was mostly focusing on mentally managing each day. You superbly managed and documented in a way that truly captured every nuance of an endurance bikepacking adventure. I am halfway through your video and finding myself longing to get back on the road! Thank you!!!

    Hi there,,i love your narrative and your history knowledge of america,and yes america in general (except those whose lives in big city😊) the suburban folks are more friendly,kind and helpful towards strangers they even give you some cash,offering you place to rest,inviting you to be their guest,etc
    when ask for help they will absolutely without a doubt would help you(although yes there might be some rude folks too,it depends what races you are,i'm asian so they treat me slightly different than european cyclotourist)
    i'm too a cyclist myself,i did my solo BAA in 2019 from end of july till mid september,,i bikes from east to west just like you,however the route i'm taking is mostly on Rail Trail,such as;C&O canal-GAP-Three River-Montour-little miami(Ohio)-kathy trail(missouri)-Cowboy trail(Nebraska) in Valentine,NE Cowboy Trail Terminus i following mostly backroads and farmroads all the way up to Teton Pass in Idaho,then head towards Town of Three Sister it was an amazing route scenery and fascinating landscape,an experience once in a lifetime,,i finished my tour in Florence,Oregon in just 52days,,i slept in motel,campground and did many sthealt camp,,thru out my journey i encountered many kind and nice peoples and also many close call esp in Kansas Highway😊,,that's why i choose my route majority on Rail Trails rather than riding on Highway,America is absolutely beautiful not just in pictures but in real life,i urge some of you whose never visit america,you got to go and do it while you're still able,,,and great job Mr.Vlady on your amazing journey hopes to see your next adventure here in Indonesia come visit and ride my home country,,here's another whole new level you will be amazed by our lush green forest and hundreds of active volcanoes and large bodies water too,diversity peoples and languages.😊

So, you know what it feels like. Only 52 days is great. I wasn’t fast. It must be fantastic also to experience Indonesia ❤️ - yes, some American was rude while gassing me with their pick-up truck. The most of the time, they are nice. They understand you and the situation and they are super helpful. In remote areas they are not even use to see foreigners, so to them my cycling clothes looked weird. But as you said, wasn’t difficult the social part. I’d love to cycle there again, not the same route, but another coast to coast.

    I loved this Vlady. The cinematography, like the commentary and riding, became more confident the further west you rode. I was expecting to fast forward a lot but found myself entranced, especially after you made it through Nebraska. And, having moved to the States from Europe nearly 25 years ago, I enjoy seeing these landscapes through the eyes of someone viewing them for the first time; they are indeed awe-inspiring. I watched it with my son who is trying to get his act together to do a similar ride but with detours to see friends in various universities across the country. LOL. Maybe he will move out before too long, and I will have time for my own adventures. I am glad yours had such a significant impact on you. Thank you, Wil

    • @vladywashere
      @vladywashere  28 днів тому

      Thanks a lot for your words :) It’s a conbination of many factors. Proceeding west I have put miles under my wheels; that is experience and I needed one. But the landscapes help, too. I remember a guy in a hotel in Cumberland, day 4 or 5. He told me to “fly directly to Denver. There starts the magic”. So it’s like complex to say why the video is actually better on the second half. The music does a better match. Everything made more sense. I started to believe in it. I understood the privilege. But when it comes to riding, a trip like this isn’t only riding one direction. It is a logistic adventure, a strategy game. Filming is also challenging. It’s telling what, thinking what, filming what. Speaking in front of a camera and telling how the day was, diary like, is today not sufficient, unless you are a star with a massive audience.
