    The creative geniuses behind album art for Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Paul McCartney. Conjurers of impossible visuals, Hipgnosis were at the white-hot center of the maddest, funniest, and most creative era in the history of popular music.

    Fantastic film really enjoyed it seen it in Chicago on June 20th. I need to do a count on how many Hipgnosis covers I have. One of the items I have always wanted was a original "The Object" that was given out as promotion to radio executives only 1,000 were made for that run. I did not know that Hipgnosis made 8 for the band and staff. To hear Robert say he did not know where his was, I gasped LOL..... I will take it Robert 😁. I did not want the film to end I wanted to hear more stories on how these great art works were made. Looking forward to seeing this again and I have been telling everyone about it. Thank you Aubrey and Storm and Utopia.

      Great documentary! Re: “The Object” on Led Zep’s Presence album cover - I am honored to have one of 1,000 ever made (I have #160). My brother bought it in the ‘80s from a rock memorabilia store call It’s Only Rock n Roll of W 8th St in Greenwich Village NYC, so I know it’s legit.

    I often was surprised that artist I like the most back then had hypgnosis as the album artwork ... PF, 10cc, UFO, LZ ... just brilliant stuff
    Obsession by UFO has a funny back story ... they feature Michael Schenker for his obvious great guitar playing and Michael asked PhilMogg later about the cover wondering ''why he didn't have any balls''?

    • @peted8478
      @peted8478 10 місяців тому

      I heard Schenker never showed up for the photo shoot so they just put in a photo of him “sans balls”.

    r + (1/9)r approximates the square root of ((L²)/2)
    Where the circumference of a circle with radius "r" approximates the perimeter of a square with side length "L". This is squaring the circle. Always approximates because of pi.

    In through the outdoor is one of the greatest albums of all time. After Presence and Physical Graffiti, I listen to ITOD the most. Jimmy's opinion is biased. He may not have written most of those songs, but it features some of his most dynamic guitar work.

    I liked this 12 years ago when it was called Taken by Storm, a feature doc about the same subject. But of course, Anton Corbijn gets all his famous friends to make cameos and sells his doc off their names after ripping off Roddy Bogawa.

    I've watched this documentary twice and twice I've been disappointed with it. It's too bad, really because I love Anton Corbijn's work and I like most of the bands featured on this doc.
    What I found disappointing about this film is that as far as bans were concerned, most of the focus was on Pink Floyd and second most was on Led Zeppelin. All other bands or people got third or fourth billing. Graham Gouldman from 10cc was barely in it. Paul McCartney and Peter Gabriel were kind of more in it but definitely not as much as Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. There was just a hint of mention at PG's first album before quickly switching to another subject. The same can be said for 10cc and Paul McCartney. They just weren't included as much as Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin.
    This could have been a much better doc if Anton had featured bands in equal time in addition to covering the story of Po and Storm.

  • @anodyne57

    None of their art ever really impressed me...they were cold, soulless, abstract, sensational, and empty-feeling covers. I think their main claim to fame is that the music on those albums and the bands who they were supporting were automatically iconic, and the albums d***ed well weren't successful, or distinctive, because of any aspect of the covers. Those covers just became very familiar to us over the years as...well, the covers of those albums.

    Much of secular bunk is ok but Christians like Micheal Omartain ,who even Steely Dan used as a keyboardist on the Aja album are better. Micheal Omartain was producer n has endless contributions. Alive And Well etc even get played on secular radio. Has some pretty beautiful spacy parts n wild jams even between slower songs. Jams more than Floyd.
