      Personally I love that ballet shoes are made by hand by artists and not by anyone. This gives a cheaper option though.

      Pointe shoes are the biggest racket.
      $80-$120 for shoes that you wear for ~16 hrs and they're trashed. Only truly perfect for maybe 4 of those hrs. You have to deconstruct & modify them _before_ you even put them on.
      They're the most expensive disposable objects ever created.

    I love this idea of modular customizable shoes. Makes it possible for everyone to have shoes that fit well and adjust on the fly to accommodate skill development, injuries, different roles/techniques. Also being able to wash everything and just replace components as they wear out could be a game changer for affordability. Hopefully as they catch on the skins and laces will come in a wider range of colors and finishes to be more inclusive of different skin tones and more functional for costuming for a wide range of roles.

    • @CarmenOlympia

      Oh yes absolutely, a game changer! I am also so here for when they introduce different tones and textures ;)

    I’m not a dancer, but I spent years as a figure skater until some medical issues forced me to stop competing. There is something special about seeing your passion and gratitude for dancing though. It brings me so much joy, and you have such amazing energy. I am so happy I stumbled upon this video and your page. Thank you for sharing these moments with us.

    How terrifically generous of you to let us share in your preparing and trying out your first shoes of this type. I have read autobiographies of dancers describing the steps to preparing their shoes, and just previously watched maria khoreva's video of her doing the amazingly difficult and lengthy preparations to fit her shoes to her foot preferences. These 3-D printed shoes used right out of the package with minimal adjustments appear to be a remarkable game changer for all dancers. What an exciting video and thrilling concept to have near perfect shoes without hours of work spent preparing them. Thank you for letting us watch this process and share in your enthusiasm for this new technology.

    • @Cherokee51774

      Hours of work preparing them.
      Then constantly having to maintain.
      For them to be useless in less than a total of 24 hrs.
      This could be a game changer!

    Wow! These are beautiful! I danced for many years - many years ago - and all we had was pink Capezio. We had to have numerous pairs because they had to be spray painted to match our costumes. My arch is very high, so standing flat footed without shoes, there’s over 1.5” between my foot arch and the floor. But once I go up on my toes, I have basically a 90* angle. Enjoy your exquisite shoes! 🩰

    This is a game changer for sure! I wonder about the longevity of the shoe or parts of them. I also wonder if the skins can come in a variety of colors to match various skin tones or imitate the classic satins. No matter, it makes me happy to see a dancer back on her feet! ❤

    About the look: it is new and different. What matters most is the fit, support, comfort and usability with safety. The cost is also a big concern. If swrat doesn't degrade them then they have to be replaced less often and replacing only the parts you need is huge cost saving too. All in all the pro's are awesome if they fit well. The look, people will get used to.

    So happy to see this here! I notice there isn't much live dancing posted in social. It seems like no matter who wears them, they never *look* like they're getting over the box a ton of the time, and the lumpiness also looks like an ill fit (thought they might be a good fit internally). They look quite comfortable, but the lines are just unsatisfying. :(

    • @CarmenOlympia
      @CarmenOlympia  23 дні тому +1

      I think also with regular pointe shoes they do need to be broken in and then still they can have an unflattering line, not every shoe is for everyone 🩷

    I got mine a few weeks ago too, but the boxes are too narrow for me with any padding on, and too rough without padding. I have figured out a work around, but have not had the time or energy to apply the skins again yet. That is a workout! No dancing in them yet, but hopefully I have some time this week.

    • @morrisminor72
      @morrisminor72 20 днів тому +1

      @@na195097 Nah, they are not that sort of material. I have got them nearly ok for class though, and my teacher tried them on yesterday (we wear the exact same size/style of pointe shoes, but my feet are smaller, though not compressive). She couldn’t even get them properly on. The sleeves over the top of the printed bit makes them waaaaay too tight for me, so I have dug out an ancient pair of beige stretchy flats, and with non stretch ribbons, I reckon this will work. I split the toe box further and retaped the entire box to fit better. I could do with an extra few mm though, so will try and split it to near the platform. I have made my own street shoes in the past, and love tinkering, although it would have been more helpful for me to just order a size up 🙄.

    They look so comfy. I noticed you stopped wearing the ribbons. Did you not like the ribbons? Did they feel strange? You look like you danced just fine without them.
    I just can’t get over the fact that they’re not made out of pink satin, with pretty pink satin ribbons… like the pointe shoes of my dreams since I was a little girl dreaming of fairy tutus, and such!
    I just wonder if there will be a day when they could make these pointe shoes look more traditional ??? I hope!
