    At first I was like WTF man. I really was, then I did some research, actually watched most of the recent video, interview, only been out like 2 days ago. And I think he was absolutely sick of college football. He gets as many if not more endorsements, than any other candidates listed. So now I'm a bit encouraged and excited. Jeff Hafley is an immediate upgrade over Joe Barry because he runs a system that fits our personnel much better than what Joe Barry’s did. We’re switching to a 4-3 defense with a big emphasis on press man coverage. No more soft zones and getting torn apart in the middle in both the passes and the runs. Go Pack Go 💚💚💛💛

    • @erics607
      @erics607 6 місяців тому +1

      I don't see us running a true 4-3. I see us running a multiple defense with 4 down linemen as our base. One of the games I watched yesterday of Boston College vs FSU, they lined up in a 4-2, a 2-4, a 3-3, possibly a 3-4, and one time they had 6 players all within 1 yard of the LOS with no safety back in coverage. The BC film doesn't show him running a true 4-3 which means he's open to playing multiple fronts. He will also drop DT's into coverage just to mess with the offense.

    • @mrbambino3893
      @mrbambino3893 6 місяців тому

      We needed a DC coach who's willing to adjust to teams and what they do well not a guy like Barry who was stuck in his ways and schemes no matter who we played and we got killed for it. We need coaches/ teachers not guys who believe in schemes all the time you have to be able to adjust to what teams like to do and counter with setups that confuse them pre snap.

    • @raybrean9889

      @@erics607 His style of play is 4-2-5 press man coverage, just like the 49ers, Seahawks, and Steelers. The Packers need to get an athletic linebacker to hit the run gaps that 4 man front opens up or chase anyone who gets passed the defensive lineman. They have the players to do this. If you look at the last 5 games of the Packers including the 2 playoff games against Dallas and San Francisco. Matt Lafluer made Joe Barry play 4-2-5 man press. So this hire makes sense and he’s young enough to change plays or adjust to the game. Like what Matt Lafluer saw what worked after he put his input on the defensive side of the ball. Matt Lafluer is a brilliant head coach and we all have trust the process. Go Pack Go 💚💚💛💛

    • @raybrean9889

      @@mrbambino3893 Jeff Halfley’s defense in Boston College was top 10 in the nation when it comes to prospects he had to develop and scheme them to understand how to play defense. He also had great success at Ohio State. I see this as a plus because he can develop and coach players because the college level it’s all about technique planning and changing defensive schematics during a game. He’s got a lot of upside. That also gives Darnell Savage to go back to his natural position. If you watch the last 4 games of the season and the playoffs against Dallas and San Francisco, they were playing a 4-2-5 technique. This is why we were having success so Matt Lafluer went out and got someone who can play 4-2-5 press man coverage. This allows the defensive backs to come down and make plays on the ball. We have the players to do this but this 4-2-5 is heavily focused on linebackers who can attack the gaps that were opened by the defensive line or go sideline to sideline and be athletic enough to stop anything that breaks through the 4-man front. So we’re going to have to get a linebacker in one of our top 2024 draft picks. Go Pack Go 💚💚💛💛

Obviously the proof will be in the pudding, but I love what I've heard about this guy's coaching style, his intelligence, and the types of schemes he likes to run. What I really love are the people who say that he's really good at breaking down game plans and making them simple and clear for players. I also love his approach that he wants his guys to play all-out without worrying about getting chewed out for making a mistake. If a mistake is made it will get corrected in a teaching context instead. I'm predicting right now I think this guy is going to run a highly effective defense in GB.

    What a great spot for this team to be in ... young offense started cooking down stretch so moving forward defense won't have to obsess over explosive plays quite as much. They can be more aggressive at times and sure it won't always be pretty but they'll know offense can help bail them out. Pretty refreshing after all Pettine and Barry's let's die from a million paper cuts style. Our CBs do press coverage well ... let em press!!!

  • @rathscendance

    I of course don't watch college and had no idea who this guy was. Upon his hiring and looking on Twitter first it seemed like a lot of people were talking about what kind of defense he runs, and the more I dug and learned about him has led me to personally like this guy. When I heard what Sherman said about him and how he approaches it makes me feel like he is one that will be held accountable and always put the players in the best position. I also like how everyone is saying we will be aggressive, I think it fits how our players are going to want to play. Especially our DBs where you have Ja$ and Valentine who are clearly dogs and such at their position who like to get in the WRs head and play grungy, gritty, tough football. The other thing I like about him of course and what you said is that he has the desire to teach and help players learn what needs to happen and is a great communicator which I think is one of the most important things for a defense to be successful so everybody is on the same page. Overall I love the hire and it seems like we got the guy who is going to fit well with the team.

  • @trevorcarskadon

    I'm excited to see that the pass defense is definitely going to be better than Barry's D. I am concerned that the run D is still going to struggle. While he had great success with Ohio St, it was the more challenged part of his game, and with Boston College, he was giving up 5 yards per carry regularly each season. His specialty is secondary work, I just really hope he can bring in a quality D-Line coach to sure that up with the changes that come with his system.
    I think Jai is going to love this and will elevate his play. When Barry arrived, Jai got injured, then a recovering bad year of play, then more bad play and injuries this year. While some assume he is risk adverse due to injury, I think the scheme had a lot to do with that. Now we get to see him work under a similar system to his best, which was Pettine. The disguise coverages really helped him. More press play is all welcome for him to be successful.

    I love the idea of aggressive defense. The idea of the zone where you keep everything in front of you has its merits but you can't keep that up all the time. Thinking of it as an energy flow idea. If you stay back the offense can increase their energy and the odds are that the offense can get major blocks of yardage per play. Being aggressive increases defensive energy and the odds are that the offense gets lost yardage per play.

    Finally an aggressive defense. Players have to execute. Doesn’t matter the scheme if player don’t execute. So we shall see how he coaches.
    Thankx for the input Andy.

    Can you do a show, where you deep dive the Packers current Safeties. I guess I don't understand why everyone doesn't like Johnson. I don't think we've gotten to see enough of him to make that call yet. Am I wrong?

    The signing of a veteran in the safety room and probably 2 in the draft will make this defense sing. We have to hit on a safety that can tackle and run. We need a run stuffer. Jenkins from Michigan would be a good selection.We also need another inside linebacker.

    Fine with it. There is always questions. I think good experience. Not a retread, yet not a totally inexperienced guy. I think a totally inexperienced DC is fine if you are a defensive minded HC.

    Curious to see how it goes, but bit worried about how many BC fans are excited that Hafley is gone. The word that I read online is that he probably should've been fired after this season, and that the only thing consistent about his defense is how undisciplined they are, often leading the FBS in penalties committed. Hoping we get Ohio State Hafley and not Boston College Hafley.

    My new NFL script fan fiction: The Jets are a powder keg and when it explodes Saleh lands in Green Bay but not as DC. Jeff Hafley remains the Xs and Os DC but Saleh becomes the "Across the hall" guy bridging the offensive and defensive coaches as well as a rally the troops guy for the players somewhat similar to what a HC that doesn't play call and coordinate the offense might. Call his position assistant head coach or senior advisor or whatever job title you want to make up but he and MLF run the team together in lockstep
