A Winter Wild Camp: 4 Days Solo Hiking the Peak District - Archived footage from my first wild camp!

- I finally found the archived footage from my first ever wild camp! As you can see, this is the full version of all 4 days, my previous three videos listed as A Winter Wild Camp: Kinder Scout, Nether Booth & The Nab are the individual instalments.
Day 1: Hiking Kinder Scout up an alternate route (not the Jacob’s Ladder way) featuring scrambling up a waterfall and hearing “bet she’s freezing” once reaching the windy plateau in a t-shirt; for those first five minutes I was too warm for multiple layers. Of course, I wrapped up once the cold mist came in and the sun began to set.
It was an incredibly windy night, I woke up a few times feeling chilly, so I did some crunches in my sleeping bag to generate body heat! This is referenced in this article, where myself and a few other female wild campers were interviewed about our experiences wild camping and what it means to us.
My segment is in the first couple paragraphs, and again at the end of the article (I'm referred to as 'Jess' haha!). The second and third photos were mine, one you'll recognise from the next video (Day 2) and another from my wild camping trip in Greece, which will be uploaded to the channel in a month or so!
Here's the article: www.hush-uk.com/travel/wild-c...
Day 2: Day two of my four-day hiking trip through the Peak District, Edale area. I descended Kinder Scout and walked through Nether Booth in search of another wild camping spot for my second night. Walking through farms, encountering countless sheep and finally settling in a forest in time to watch the sun set over the hills.
Realising I was low on water once my tent was up, I searched for the nearest water source which was Ladybower reservoir, though only a half hour walk away, it meant coming back through the woods in total darkness which felt very horror-movie-esque. I loved it!
Sheltered by the trees from the wind, I Ieft one side of the tent’s rain cover off, giving me the view of the stars flittering between the silhouettes of the pines in a twilight-purple sky with Venus making an appearance, as I fell asleep to the sound of owls and creaking trees.
I’m unsure what the helicopter was doing but was making those rounds for hours flying over the forest I stayed in, thankfully stopping once the sun went down.
Days 3 & 4: Day three and four of my four-day hiking trip through the Peak District, Edale.
Walking back from the hill I previously camped beyond Nether Booth in the woods by Ladybower Reservoir, I journeyed back into Edale to stop for a pint and veggie nachos before making my way to find another spot on the edge of the Kinder Scout trail on a hillside.
You see me struggle the incline as I walk upstream through a small cascade of a river I followed to set up camp once I found a flat enough spot.
Notice a time lapse of the clouds flowing over the distant Kinder Scout plateau, the same peak I was up not two nights before, as Venus comes into view from the left.
On my final day I awoke to beautiful views of the mountain before me, made my way through the hills to take a longer route back to Edale where I’d wait for my evening train.
However, you’ll notice a lack of footage from the fourth day as my battery died unexpectedly as well as no power on my portable powerbank.
The few hours it took me to get back into the town left that part of the trip undocumented but no less enjoyed. The views I wish I could show you were breathtaking to say the least as I sat on a bench overlooking the most perfect view of Hope Valley you could wish for. I spent a good 45 minutes resting and painting a watercolour as I had no other way of preserving the memory.
I managed to recharge my phone back at the pub I’d visited the day before and enjoyed a few more pints before catching the train back home later that evening.
I hope you guys enjoyed this and the previous videos of my trip! It marks my first Wild Camping experience and, spoilers, it left me dreaming for more.

Also, my brother and I hiked Hadrian’s Wall to raise money for Mind, we got 55 miles in before we were forced to cut it short due to food poisoning from an Inn we stayed in! We're better now, and will continue the walk Spring 2023 so if you’d like to donate and support us I’ll add the link below! It’d mean so much, and for a good cause!

@@keithkitchener8737 so happy you’re enjoying them, and that would be nice!😁
Beautifully put together, you always manage to capture what us hikers, wild campers think feel and experience. Your perspective perfectly captures all that the outdoor environment wants to display. ❤
You always have the nicest things to say, thank you!♥️
@@Orenjen You’re very welcome. I think it’s always the right way to give credit where credit is due, we both know how difficult it is putting videos together whilst trying to enjoy the outdoor environment. ❤️
love it!
Loved the atmospheric video shots and your choice of music Jen,
Thank you!😁
Great hiking vibes 🚶♀. Peak District looks beautiful. 🏔
Thank you, and it was incredible 🧡
I've watched your wild adventure in the Peak District, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration for your fearless spirit. Four days spent in the wilderness, with nothing but your wits and your gear to sustain you - it's the sort of thing that would make a man of me, if I had the fortitude for it. Scrambling up waterfalls and navigating through dark woods were enough to give me a chill, but it's clear that you relished every moment of it. Even the trek through the woods to Ladybower reservoir, in the dead of night with nothing but the stars to light your way - it sounds like a scene out of a horror movie, but you embraced it with open arms. And the views! The peaks and valleys that you witnessed, from the summit of Kinder Scout to the hills overlooking the Hope Valley - they were sights that would make a poet out of a man, if he had the talent for it. It's a shame that your battery died on the final day, and that you were unable to document the views that you encountered. But as you said, the memory is preserved in your mind, and in the watercolour that you painted on a bench overlooking the valley. It's a memory that will stay with you for a lifetime, and it's one that I'm sure you'll treasure always.
Thank you for sharing your content with us Jess - it's the sort of video that inspires the adventurer in all of us.
What an amazing comment thank you so much! That is so incredibly kind of you to say, it’s made my entire week! 🧡 I’m so, so glad that you think all of this as that’s what I strive to do; love and enjoy the outdoors, as well as documenting to show the world. Thank you again!
@@Orenjen you are very welcome! I know how much hard work goes into creating this type of content. So I just wanted to let you know what you're doing is inspiring! :)
Very nice! So therapeutic 💕
Thank you!♥️
Cracking video and lovely scenery shown around Edale especially. Liked and Subscribed
Happy to hear it, thank you!
Good channel , enjoy watching your walks
Thank you I'm so glad!💚
This place looks spectacular! Great film and atmosphere of this amazing trail. This whole video is literally breathtaking🎥🥾
It was incredible, I love the peaks almost as much as I love the lakes!🧡 Thank you always for your lovely comments!☺️
Amazing videos ❤
Thank you ☺️
Loved the 'topping off' on the cairn with your small stone. Over here in NZ we never go past a cairn without putting a stone on top. It stops it from disappearing, on some of our tracks you need them to guide you through some gnarly junctions. and open 'tops' especially in the mist and snow. Enjoyed the video ATB Cheers from the mountains of NZ 😀😀
I always do it too! It’s a nice rule I have with myself, I can’t pass a cairn without adding to it 😁 I’m glad it’s a thing all the way in NZ as well, you’re so lucky to live there! It’s at the top of my travel list 💚
Very calming and peaceful video. What is the one thing about backpacking/camping that sets your soul right? There are many i know
It’s tricky to choose one, but I’d say the connection with nature is imperative to happiness. When I feel totally grounded & immersed with incredible sounds, sights, smells, I feel so connected and it makes me feel wonderful and at peace.💚🌿
@@Orenjen that is how I feel as well. Once i am grounded in nature it is easier for me to be my authentic self.
