i know this video is about "jobs" but as a mostly hobby developer that also works time to time, i wanna say this, you learn what you need to learn in order to make things that you wanna make, then you master it in time. i dont remember learning anything by starting it like "i wanna learn this". i wanna make things, learning is a side effect
Yes any time is a good time to learn. But, I think a lot of people do want to just learn in order to get into dev. I started to 'just learn' in order to see if I liked the content and explore the possibility to get a job. In the beginning, there was nothing particular I wanted to build. I just sat down in front of the curriculum with a goal in mind and started to learn. There's different angles to approach things from. Though, your angle is more sustainable for most I would say.
I’ve been really enjoying the process of creating things from scratch. Even if I don’t get a tech related job as I complete the Odin project, the fact that I will have the skills to build things on the web is more important to me. I would love to have a little web store where I am able to sell things for extra income. Or maybe even help my community and make landing pages for them. This is my motivation and what keeps me going. I work at a warehouse and it’s not so bad so I’m going at my own pace with learning and because i have particular goals not related specifically to getting a tech job, these phobias of AI’s taking jobs is not something I’m worried about. Great video btw!
AI is definitely an unknown. But, ask yourself who is creating all of these videos and blogs saying AI will replace developers - it is people with a vested interest in generating clicks (clickbait), or it is AI companies doing marketing. Most developers I see agree AI is useful and will increase productivity, but right now, believe it is not anywhere near replacing developers. I certainly don't think it's a reason not to learn web dev. Put it this way, if AI replaces developers, it will replace most white collar jobs in society. We will have bigger problems to face.
Of course! Anyone can do what they like, but if the goal is to get a dev job, you need to have the mindset of going all in. The attrition rate is so high. So many people start, very few finish. It's a serious undertaking.
No don't feel stupid! My situation is probably different from yours. It doesn't matter how long you take...what matters is that you are incrementally improving. I could say I feel stupid versus people who did it in 6 months or less...but it's not a game worth playing!
Well web-developer is a broad term. It would overlap with software engineer, also. I think that's what FAANG would prefer...someone who has a good grasp on software engineering, not just a framework and one language. That said, I am pretty sure people from The Odin Project had gotten jobs at FAANG. Just need to get good at DSA interview questions.

Exactly! And that is the right mindset in my opinion. A growth and learning mindset will always win over one motivated by money or the 'cool factor'.
Been waiting on a video on this topic from you! appreciate the insight.
Let me know if there are any other topics to talk about!
Thankyou so much! This was a very motivating video! :)
Is this the model for the chad meme?
Lolllllll. I think I should take that as a compliment?
been waiting for this kind of video 🙏🏻
Awesome! Let me know if you want any other topics!
Can you share roadmap of your journey
Yes I will do that. 👍
and here comes Devin, an AI Developer🙃

It is all right to just put one's feet in the water before deciding if one wants to go all in.

8 months? I feel so stupid...

Does the big tech even want to hire web developer?
