Another factor is US government feared Huawei spying on them because Huawei is one of the China's GLC company along with ZTE and TCL (TCL never got banned which is weird)

Huawei would have given tough competition for Google,Samsung and Apple especially when it comes to camera innovations and features if not for US trade sanctions kneecapping its further growth.
That doesn't really add up though. If Huawei was innovating, the sanctions would have had no impact on that at all. The sanctions only impact it, if Huawei was using innovation by western companies that it then bought to use - and all phones had access to those things if they chose.

I still use my 2019 Huawei P30 Pro, which has had no issues with the battery, display, or camera. It features an impressive zoom and excels in low light. The only drawback is the absence of security updates due to the ban, but overall, it's still a fantastic phone.
The mate 30pro is the testament of how phone companies been delaying actual upgrades from their flagship phones, current techs doesnt actually represent the final products..
I still very destinctly remember that at one point, Huawei was more popular than apple here in Germany. The Galaxy S4 and Huawei P6 were some of the most popular phones at the time and pretty much no-one had an iPhone.
Huawei had also the best cameras. Yeah, according to DXOMARK Huawei is still the best, but they don't care about AI or no AI cameras. I do care and that's why I choose Vivo. Vivo X100 Ultra uses normal image processing. They also use AI image processing, but only in big zooms and dark places. In bright places it uses 0 AI image processing. But in pro mode, Vivo X100 Ultra uses 0 AI, even in dark places. I prefer normal image processing. Why? Because AI image processing looks like a chalkboard painting and AI image processing deletes small details, like hair and knuckles. Normal image processing doesn't delete any details. I like the big pixels. Normal image processing wins.

my brother has a p30 pro still and this phone was so good its chipset capabilities were on par with qualcomms release the year after the phone, the battery and camera together were also undefeated that google got scared, and the craziest thing? They are still updating the chinese model of the phone to run the latest release of harmonyos, they never gave a lifespan for updates, they are giving updates to the phones users still use and i think after 5 years they only recently stopped updates, thats 2 years more than samsungs update lifespan at the time WITHOUT making promises on how long huawei will update the phone.
What’s also important is that this phone worked incredibly well with the Huawei Matebook laptops, it brought a level of experience that rivalled the Apple walled garden. It wasn’t quite as good, but they were a rival. With time, who knows where they would have gone.
i got to use this phone a couple days when my cousin bought it and lemme tell you , it felt SO incredibly premium and amazing in hand , the display was fabulous and the camera was just mind blowing . love huwawei phones , shame on us.
the hardware of Huawei can never be matched by Samsung or Apple but what was lacking in Huawei was the software if they had given a stock Android experience it would have been much more better

Thinking of buying a Honor as it is available in my region, just so I could get almost the same user experience as I did with Huawei.
I got this phone during the pandemic. The camera was not the best but it was crazy consistent and I liked the image processing that Huawei did. It wasn't too saturated or too sharp, it was perfectly balanced. This phone is a beast.
I loved my P30 pro. Would happily have another huawei phone, sadly I'm now with Samsung but if the Google ban ever gets lifted I'm jumping straight back 👌
The mate 40 pro is the ultimate global version of a Huawei phone running android , owned one up until recently when my uncle needed a new phone and loved the phone every step of the way despite it not having google, fixed almost all the issues and refined the mate 30 pro sooo much and kept all the good stuff from the 30 pro, it also has official unresitrcted 5g support even in the USA
Don't forget the Huawei Mate 40 Pro+ 5G's storage tech is SFS 1.0 which is way faster than UFS 4.0. I can't seem to find the source but I've read it somewhere about that storage tech and that Huawei was a threat to Apple that's why they were banned. Huawei was way ahead in terms of tech innovation and the competition were so scared they had to resort to lobbying.

It's crazy to think that this model came out 5 years ago. If your putting it into perspective, in 2014, 5 years ago would be 2009, the jump for the innovation of mobile phone industry was big and noticeable back then. But in 2019, the smartphones released that year would be just as good as the ones released this year of 2024. Ps. I'm still using my Huawei Nova 5T that I bought 5 years ago. Another factor is US government feared Huawei spying on them because Huawei is one of the China's GLC company along with ZTE and TCL (TCL never got banned which is weird)
Why in 2024 we are still stuck with 2 American operating systems? While we have a huge selection of mobile phones from hundreds of manufacturers 🙄 strange! Very strange!
New Harmony OS by Huawei is coming. already released in China
It is not so strange. We used to have plenty of operating systems but they failed to conquer the market (Symbian, Windows phone, Tizen …)
Short answer; Intelligent people will never buy and use any Chinese operating system.
Even windows failed.
Huawei now using Harmony OS, while at the same time there's sailfish OS from ex Nokia (maemo/meego team).
This means we have 4 smartphone os as we speaks.
and here I am still using p10. its been 7 years with this phone and still running smooth with good battery. i know i need to upgrade but damn, don't wanna let go.
@@wyterabitt2149 I believe they were restricted from using Google services and Apps for their OS,which literally eliminated Huawei as a serious player outside PRC overnight.
Plus, they could not obtain latest 5G SoCs from Qualcomm, and yeah Huawei had its own in house Kirin SoC,but that could be developed further as sanctions also blocked Huawei from using TSMC foundries and other critical tech, even those which were of non US origin, but utilized about 25% American IP in their production.
One way or the other, that US ban literally pulled the rug from under someone's feet.
@@wyterabitt2149 If someone cuts off your legs, you could be the greatest crawler but its nothing compared to having legs
@@VocaFan4ever Very well put together.
The volume control was so easy it was scary. I thought it would be a gimmick.
2019-2020 were some of the weird innovative phones we had that time
My 6 years old Honor 8X is still working perfectly today apart from the battery which lasts about half a day.
Same, Honor 7s, dailied this since 2019, battery still legit, it's slower but not nearly unusable, camera has gotten complemented this year... ❤
I had the Huawei P10 and I absolutely loved it. It was fast. Ui was smooth. Charges way faster than the competition before and the cameras. I really loved taking pictures on it.
American systems are also not trustable...
And chinese are trust worthy 😂
@@gordanbabic8028 they are as trustworthy as americans, I do not trust americans for anything, they spy on you as much as the chinese, fuck Glowies.
@@gordanbabic8028Chinese is trustworthy as American
No country is trustworthy they all sell your data lol just everyone has my country is superior attitude
What is this phone name?
2019 was peak innovation. You could see huge jumps from 2018 phones from the mate 30 to the galaxy S10, note 10, fold and edge to edge A series
I'll hold you to that. My most advanced phones are from 2018 Xperia XZ3 and S9
Wow Mate 30 pro is one of those greatest phones, i bet "Mate 20 pro" is also has the same Respect and a Goat would love to see that too Ryan. One of my dream phones.
0:25 why you blur out your statistics?
I loved my mate 30 pro, i think I'm going to cry.
I can't say one bad thing about it.
I would rather be stuck with that phone today than with the nonsense that's being spat out onto our palms.
Completely with you Ryan , I owned the Huawei mate 20x I loved that phone ,had it for 3 years and only sold it because of the Google ban I got what I paid for it so win win , I do miss that phone I firmly believe if they didn't ban Huawei they would be the dominant phone by now
You know that phones made before the ban weren't degoogled right? Newer Huawei phones like the Pura70 ultra and P60 pro work with MicroG on the Appgallery so you can use them just fine.
@@Topofthesocks77Not every app plays well with that, especially banking. The situation is the same in the gbox. Speaking from experience, Huawei Mate 40 Lite 5G
Subbed. Outstanding production quality like damn
I almost bought this phone but the lack of Google services was hard to live without.
One of the best built quality phones. It was still going strong until I cracked the screen 6 months ago and the replacement was too expensive and had to retire it.
Hi, I'm just curious what phone you bought to replace it?
@@katinasoutherland7693 Honor Magic 6Pro.
Am planning on replacing mine with another P30 still. Atkeast as a secondary phone. It's a basically good all rounder for the price now
you just reminded me of that good old days about phones i love the videos that you make about old tech
Huawei tri fold is an perfect example literally a living example
How ahead it was from top brands
My huawei p9's camera was so good back then, then the ban happened. What a shame
Had the p20 pro still one of the best phones i had, camera was crazy good and battery life/charging was amazing
Currently using a s23 ultra
Do you remember the Samsung A80 where the camera popped up
Didn't one Plus have one from around 2015?
Watching on Huawei P40 Pro+...4 years since its launched, performance is still topnotched 💪
I think the "Aura" of the Huawei devices can be seen on the Honor foldables
4:25 I don't think Huawei's ban stopped the innovation. The smartphone market has just matured plain and simple
Many people in my country (Indonésia) still looking for this phone. Because You know what, it's really amazing, this phone is really so cool in terms of design and features.
Still using mine as a daily driver. Still fast. Battery still lasts like it's new. The only down side is the lack of google play store. but everything else is almost perfect 5 years later.
I have P8 P9 P10 all have PlayStore side loaded
Watching this on Mate 40 Pro right now ... Dont have any urge to upgrade to the latest phones .. Camera is fine, speakers is fine, display is fine, 5G is working great, even battery still lasted full day.
Still using my Mate 20X
My last phone is p30 pro. Is the P70 pro good please review
I have been using P40 Pro 3 years till today, it's fantastic battery camera and using screen without protector and no scratchs seen, it amazed me
Hii can you recommend huawei pura 70 pro? Can i have your opinion about this phone thankyou
The years when smartphone companies were very innovative.
I still use mine tho, excellent smartphone in every aspect. ❤❤❤
The Mate 20 series and P30 is still working smoothly today and have Google Play Store support which makes them the last of the best Huawei.
my brother has a p30 pro still and this phone was so good its chipset capabilities were on par with qualcomms release the year after the phone, the battery and camera together were also undefeated that google got scared, and the craziest thing?
What was that app shown at 0:11
I can always tell someone is really young when they talk about 5 years like it is a long time.
That's what makes me feel old
how old are you?
@prozaic7069 40ish
Use a Huawei Pura 70 ultra with micro g I think you'll be really surprised
All I have is a Huawei Nova 11i and I also use MicroG with Emui 14.2. Now the phone is perfect
the hardware of Huawei can never be matched by Samsung or Apple but what was lacking in Huawei was the software if they had given a stock Android experience it would have been much more better
True. Stylistically higher above too.
Your old nowadays no one wants stock everyone wants the extra customizability even apple knows it have you seen latest iOS update? More customizable than ever
Nah! You can still get customisability with stock by adding your own flavour/skin like every manufacturers... But Huawei has to do it without adding google shit@@markwashington7731
No.
Emui is my favorite android skin followed by miui, its the absolute smoothest one by far imo
I am fan of your content since day one. When u went to work Android Authority. I was missing ur own content a lot. But u r free now again. I really appropriated ur content a lot. Love from Bangladesh ❤

Ryan is awesome content creator! Keep pushing mate ! I love your work*
[4:33] what was that game called?
Really love this series, brings back some memories :)
Keep it up, really love your content!
My mate 9 pro bought around 8 years ago still works. I changed the battery recently but power buttons have issues, I am using it for dev testing only occasionally. But the build quality is awesome, it is far better than iphone 7 of that time.
Had a Mate 40 Pro in 2021 and I loved everything on it. Even if the core ran on andoid 10 (if I'm not mistaken), it was so well optimised that it made my oneplus 5t obsolete. The camera, the screen, the battery life, all were really great. The lack of GMS support is what made me sell it after one year, because I moved to university. Still miss that phone till this day...
I still use a Huawei P20 as my everyday phone, typing this in it now almost 7 years later
I loved my P30 pro. Would happily have another huawei phone, sadly I'm now with Samsung but if the Google ban ever gets lifted I'm jumping straight back 👌
I absolutely loved my Mate 20 Pro. I regret selling it as it was one of the best phones I ever had.
Am i the only one whe sees the lack of google services as a feature?
Me too lmao
Don't forget the Huawei Mate 40 Pro+ 5G's storage tech is SFS 1.0 which is way faster than UFS 4.0. I can't seem to find the source but I've read it somewhere about that storage tech and that Huawei was a threat to Apple that's why they were banned. Huawei was way ahead in terms of tech innovation and the competition were so scared they had to resort to lobbying.
can this run games like genshin impact and ehat settings?, please help us, in my local stores ive seen cheap Huawei phones but im targeting cheap phone for gaming ultra settings 60FPS gaming
Camera is better than pixel todays tbh
well you clear have issues
well you issues have clear @@c.simangaliso
To this day I have the feeling that this ban was simply done so that the big competitors could remain marketable.
Phone innovation definitely stopped when Huawei was banned from working with Google as it removed the biggest competition to Apple and Samsung
Every phone is too similar now, at least with the high end market.. i hope a company such as OnePlus can fix the market
LG, HTC, Moto, Samsung
- Original 'Smartphone' innovators
Huawei continued this tradition and fast paced it.
Apple - let's steal all these things and call it our revolutionary features in iPhone 🤣
The phone is not available for purchase in my country, Ghana
Can someone please help me buy some? Please and please
Still a proud owner of a phone from Huawei, the nova 5t. Still going good 5 years later.
One feature on I think it was a Huawei mate nine I had, was if I had an alarm set, and powered off the phone, it would give the option to turn on, I don't think I have seen a phone do that since.
yo I just found this channel, great smartphone videos, listens to post malone, and watches counter strike??? my goat you getting a sub
P30 pro was for sure best phone I used
Been daily driving the mate 40 pro for years the only thing i hate is the lack of google play services because using 3rd party app may sometimes have bugs and ads but overall i have a great experience with it’s durability screen and still great cameras.
As we all know we now has circle to search but in my Huawei Y9 2019 if you touch and hold any objects it will search for it and shows where you can buy it all back in 2018, Huawei was so ahead of it's time
Is this Huawei even available in the US? I do not think so?
I was in love with this phone when it came out.this, the p30 pro, mate 20 pro, i was crazy about those phones.
I'd still love to own one, but it'll be hard to find one now.
p30 pro was the last best phone they had before the ban, but still p30 pro is a good phone to this day.
I bought 2 P30 Pro when it was launched, still gives my S24+ a run for its money today Nov 2024. Camera still a beast. Games? No problemo.
The Mate 40 Pro that I own was equally revolutionary with amazing performance and camera, same with the P30 Pro and P20 pro.
Could you use F Droid with it? Where do I buy one now?
These huawei phone reviews are so much good , they are making so much nostalgic, making me remember when phones were actually fine and made me wait for each iteration of flagships and brands were competing for more and more innovation ❤❤❤❤❤
i like how Ryan covers this era so bery good in the age of boring designs and ai
I can still run games like Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves no problem.
