"The scientists of today think deeply instead of clearly. One must be sane to think clearly, but one can think deeply and be quite insane." - Nikola Tesla
Deividas Melnikas On of my favorite quotes. Tesla was, quite literally, robbed. It is tragic he never saw the true fruits of his genius. Although, I think if he was able to see how his work has influenced the world, he would be far happier than he would be as a millionaire.

If i'm honest I feel like this biographic has missed some key elements. Firstly, the importance of his work isn't fully realised, particularly regarding the Marcone issue and that he was said to be using 17 of Tesla's patents. Secondly the climate of the time was very cut throat and unregulated - Edison, in his attempts to disprove Tesla's AC current as safe, knowingly electrocuted animals in public to turn favour to his less adequate DC current. The essence of what Tesla was all about is not captured, he hated greedy corporations and wanted his work to contribute to the furthering of humanity, not at a price to the highest bidder. Money was mentioned too often as a point here and regarding Tesla it wasn't important, it was just a means to an end.
He also left out his frequent illness as a child and fact he was meant to follow his father's footsteps. He was initially allowed to study after falling gravely ill and only getting better after his father promised he could go into studies instead, if he pulled through.
Justin O'Brien Tesla was content to allow Marconi to use his patents until it cost him everything. He knew about it, but simply didn't care. He didn't sue until after he'd lost all his money and financial backing. It was essentially an act of desperation. Tesla had always assumed that his ideas would bring him wealth eventually as he had never exhausted his ideas. Tesla had already been using radio for his remote control model ships, so he had already invented and had been using radio in practical applications long before Marconi. The problem was that simply using radio to transmit messages seemed to Tesla a footnote of the technology, while he himself wanted to create a global wireless power system. He was so focused on THAT goal, that he ignored the transatlantic goal set by industrialists (which he could've achieved easily and with far better results than Marconi) and thereby lost all his backing from that time forward. He was essentially blacklisted by JP Morgan and couldn't get any backers until the day he died, although he had offered numerous inventions afterwards, including Radar during WWI (which ironically was an extremely important technology in WWII), but was apparently told by the US Military that it had no need for it. While he had always been somewhat eccentric, it does seem that in his later years after losing all his backing, that he did suffer from a deeper mental breakdown. I don't think he lost his brilliance, but it did make him more desperate and he almost certainly suffered from a deep depression. In the end, the US Supreme Court decided in Tesla's favor, that he was indeed the inventor of radio, but unfortunately it came too late. The decision was made in the same year, but after his death.

Edison was like Elon Musk is today, he understood the technology but didn't pioneer it, instead gave a platform. He was a visionary more than an inventor. I'm European and I'm grateful he existed, without him there are a lot of technologies that weren't even being looked at - at the time that he made possible. He was greedy and wanted to be the star of the show but I can name you countless famous Europeans that we adore that've treated people around them even worse including getting away with literal rape not just intellectual rape. The blanketed hate though, even after Tesla had left he never hated Edison and still appreciated his work so why would I think any different? Tesla was poor with money and initially trusted people too much but long term he kept the right people around him and wasn't a fool as many people seem to think he was. He was more than just an inventor.

I wish people had listened to Tesla the world would be much better off especially had we used his flywheel combustion engine design.
for sure
Tesla was smart but stupid at the same time
Edison had been portrayed in film by Spencer Tracy.
Tesla was portrayed by David Bowie.
I don't know who got the better deal.
😂
Thank you! Always curious about Tesla, somehow my curiosity and the opportunity to learn have never met up at the same time. Until now, that is. Thanks again.
He is still an inspiring figure. Despite his quirks and being a man of his time. It's almost impossible not to admire him. I'm glad that he's gained more recognition over the last 25 years. I remember hearing about Edison constantly while I was in school and Tesla only being mentioned in passing. Glad to see that's changing.
This man should never be forgotten. What an amazing person
The greatest Serbian mind of all time. Hands down to you and thank you for all of your accomplishments.
Beside Tesla, the second greatest Serbian mind is Mileva Marić, who is better known as wife of Albert Einstein and she had a big influence on his work.
@@kuhar12 actually the scholarly consensus is that she didn't have a big influence. And einstein's greatest work, General Relativity was completed after she moved away.

That would be inarguable, had he managed to actually pump out his inventions

Hey, you Tesla-Pros. I have a question and maybe one of you could help me. There was another famous electro-pioneer working with Tesla. He was of german or maybe jewish herritage. I think and his last name started with a G., but i'm not sure about it. He has a cuircuitry named after him. He wrote several books, that are still availabe and even understandable for noobs. He was a known socialist. No judgement passed by me. It's just a hint. I knew his name once and wanned to get his books, but unfortunately i completely forgot his name. 😬 Maybe one of you can help me?
Pub x Stompa What about the soldier in World War II that climb the cliff and saved some like 70 people overnight lowering each soldier down the cliff and he refused to carry a gun because he was a medic. Winner of the Congressional medal of honor of course
I love Tesla's biography.
You totally did it justice.
Props and a bow given.

Edison fans are here guys
Shahzeb Khan how can there be any Edison fans? Evil man
Edison was like Elon Musk is today, he understood the technology but didn't pioneer it, instead gave a platform.
127 fans now
@@regular3081 That dispute is rather pointless, considering that both of Tesla's parents were devout followers of the Serbian orthodox faith. Also there's Tesla in writing, affirming his Serbian heritage.
What are they fans OF? His failers or his cruelty? AC is proven SCIENTIFCALLY to be superior to DC. End of.....
Anybody with a bias is just that. Bias! 😒
I've been obsessed with Tesla since I was a small child, no wonder I went on to also be obsessed with electronics and electrical engineering haha.
In 1898 Tesla demonstrated a radio controlled boat, could move it, turn lights on and off and such. At a time before a lot of people knew radio waves even existed and certainly no radio controlled anything, this absolutely stunned those that watched. He even designed a clockwork frequency changer for it in case the US government wanted a radio controlled torpedo that the enemy couldn't signal jam, I guess it was a drone before drones.

Ohh finally the most awaited Biography!
if i ever had a time machine i would go back to his final days and show him the future and all the things his inventions help humanity not only him but others scientist that never saw credit in life for their work
Fantastic video as always, simon. I’m subscribed to all of your channels!
WOW what a man , best episode yet, thoroughly enjoyed it
Another great video Biographics team!
I like Tesla as much as the next person, but I'm a bit dismayed how few people are aware of one of the geniuses who inspired him. Michael Faraday's contributions are underappreciated considering he was one of the most influential scientists in history.
Simon, thanks for your expositions. I watch your videos to replay and reconstruct a number of things I read with remarkable integrity.
I think I have a little crush on Tesla.
I don't blame you. He was both intelligent *and* good-looking.
I know he’s been dead since 1943, and he was asexual, but HE WAS SO CUTE! 💕💕💕💕💕
@@emmarose4234 he wasn't asexual, he just couldn't afford to have a woman, because according to him, it would have hindered his scientific accomplishments. Simon talked about it in the video.

Great idea for this channel Simon, really well made episodes and clearly a lot of thought gone in to each one!
Simon you put up your Top Tenz description. Let's me know you're human after all. *:-)*
As to this video I'm going to sound like a hipster for a second. I was into Tesla way back before he was a popular internet topic. I loved reading everything I could find about him in the school library when I was a kid (around 1980). I think it's pretty cool that he gets the recognition he deserves now that we can learn almost everything about someone so easily. Really enjoy this channel.
Thanks for alerting us. We made the fix.
Dsdcain: I’m a bit tired of it tbh. Since everyone has read that comic strip by the Oatmeal it seems they glorify testla and greatly demonize and downplay Edison’s accomplishments. In reality it is not one person, but a series of people who forge the way to those discoveries. It’d be nice to recognize some other people for a change imo, especially considering AC energy had been studied 50+ plus Tesla was able actually apply the theory
I recomend autobigrafy by nikola tesla - my inventions
I don't know why I skipped over this Bio for so long, but I'm sure glad I finally found it. Thanks for a superb bio on the great Tesla.
The Mark Twain anecdote is worth the price of admission alone...!
Tesla has been over looked for his contributions to this world. Thanks for giving him some respect and acknowledgement.
Everyone’s still trying to figure out wireless electricity right now. All the big companies are searching still to some degree or another
Great video, he was one of the greatest!! Whistler in your closing monologue you stated "we have brand new videos like this everyday of the week." Think you are doing your closing monologue from one of your other channels, bruh. Keep up the good work with these bios!!
Hhaha, yeah, totally right. I've been saying that for so long on the other channels its hard to switch!!
I think most people do not realise that Tesla is the smartest scientist ever!
Newton>Tesla
He was Inventor not Scientist
Creative engineer, inept scientist.
Tesla was great at electricity yes but if we talk physics he was completely clueless
All your picks as i have said every time are perfect. Your thumbs up/down ratio is awesome too. Would have loved to hear about his and Edison’s obsession with contacting the dead too. But great cover of him. Love this channel! Haven’t posted one that I haven’t already read about quite a bit yet and can’t get enough of. Maybe Churchill, R. feinman, ayn rand, Ben Franklin, Gertrude stein ... so many. Lol.
I was about to skip this one.. Thinking I already know all there is to know about tesla.. I am glad I didn't.. There were parts at the beginning I didn't know.. Very interesting
As far as science and his technical contributions are concerned, Tesla is completely underappreciated in the United States.
Excellent. Thanks for this.
Tesla has been a personal hero for years. Simon, thank you for this video.
1st Biographic video. How appropriate, I love this dude, Nikola Tesla, I have been interested in his life since learning his dream for wireless electricity. The car thing with Elon Mask (Iron Man) took over and everyone now for the most part knows Tesla now. And another electric car(though less successful) company has his first Nikola) name.
Tesla: cerified genius
Edison: certified bellend
post-script: having only discovered Simon's content this year, it's cool too see the absolute behemoth of a computer he mentions in so many Business Blaze videos in frame
I can't see either choice ever winning in a poll but a video on Rockefeller or Carnegie would be great.
Yes, I'd like to see one on Carnegie. I was just in a former Carnegie library a few days ago. It's a marvel that he funded all of those, quite a number in small towns where it would have been a huge resource that the community could not have afforded otherwise.
Thank you for making this video . For focusing on Tesla love story with pigeon . Rather than unnecessary things in life .
You should do a biographical video on the Russian Rasputin! He’s an interesting guy!
Thank you for existing on this space. Please, keep doing what you do. I appreciate you.
Proud in Serbian 😄
When building my idea of who I want to be and be like, Tesla is definitely one of my inspirations.
He was Serbian born in the Austrian Empire and the part where he was born in is now Croatia, both of his parents were Serbian. Get over it and enjoy the video, thanks as always Simon!

Whats the name of the Jazz song used during the small breaks in the video?
Do I thumb this before watching? Yeah, safe bet:)

Great job on this video as usual Biographics. Nikola Tesla truly was the master of electricity. But there is one tiny but important detail you missed. During the 1890's Tesla sent a patent of the precursor to modern drones to the United States Army. However, the technology was so advanced that the Army didn't know what to do with it. When I first learned about that I could not believe what I was reading.
For quite some time, I've had a theory that Tesla time traveled to the future, bought an electric guitar, and became Frank Zappa. I realize that I may be completely mad, but if anyone could do that, it would be Tesla.
he looks like Zappa a bit isnt it? :P
What is the name of the song you used in your Putin episode? My you please tell me because Iove to learn and listen to music from Bach and Wolfgang to Led Zeppelin.
If they make a movie on his life they should call it “the man whom had lightning in his hands”
As an electrician I cant get enough of Tesla history. Truley amazing.

Very mainstream look at Tesla, but a great video nonetheless. Keep it up.
It covers the well documented facts about Tesla, without delving into the unproven theories of his life. It's important to have a foundation in the documented facts, even if you seek to delve into the rumours and theories that abounded with this extremely colourful character.
Bit of a change but any chance u could do a video on John Candy
9 minutes in...it still only talks about Tesla, so I am thinking the written description on this was meant for a different video. Not a problem...still a great video, & these UA-camrs keep super busy, & work hard on research etc, so occasional mixups might happen. Love all their videos!

Fantastic content as usual. The bumper music choice was jarring though, didn't seem to have any connection to the subject. Great documentaries use all elements as part of what they are saying. Getting better. For god's sake, Simon, please hire someone to control your cords. Hard to listen to the text when there's so much untended behind you.
