  • Several months ago I purchased this Hydraulic Hub Press Puller and used it for the first time on the rear of a Ford Escape. Original video here: • 8Milelake 10T Hydrauli...
Needless to say the 10 ton hydraulic ram did not work this time and actually leaked the hydraulic fluid out of it.

I think this is why VW/Audi/Skoda/ use a bolt that goes down the shaft to "spread " the shaft tight into the hub, so when the bolt is removed it "shrinks" the axle's diameter slightly.
Mazda use this design too, but only on their Diesel models for some reason. I don't know why all manufacturers don't use the bolt design. they don't seem to give trouble.

Tool late, there are a couple companies such as Murray Tools and Steelman that already make split dies or thread chasers but not in the required sizes or pitches.

Steelman makes split dies. They have a kit specifically for common size wheel studs plus individual dies in just about any size up to about M20. They are not inexpensive but work very well. I've used them for several years now and they're a real hassle saver.

Checked out their website and can't find the popular axle nut sizes. Wheel stud repair is good but not cheap. Thanks ill keep looking...

@@PhillipBailey Murray Tools has split dies also and cover a couple sizes Steelman skips, like M16x1.5 which isn't an uncommon size on smaller axles.
