    I don’t have my dad anymore since he passed and my son’s dad is not very involved at all so I think we’re going to learn together how to do things. We were just talking about this too. Thank you for posting.

    I appreciate your videos SO much!! A few years ago I watched the video of how to put up shelves. Since then, I have done it 2 other times and each time, I think “Dad taught me how to do this!!” You are so helpful and I swear you know every idea/project I’m considering. Thanks so much for your help!! ❤

    Something I remembered recently is that although grocery bags can not be easily recycled, they can be donated to your local food pantry/food bank. They can always use them.

    A step drill would have made this job a lot easier although it is a less common drill bit to possess.
    Also starting this project by drilling the holes in the lid to get a custom to the process is a good tip to familiarize yourself with how it's going to go.

    There's a neat little tool I have we call a 'nibbler', with the right blade on it would 'chew' through the base of that bin easily.
    I'll be using it to cut out the base of a large, plastic wheelie bin I'm going to use for my new compost bin.

      Not a dad but some people use composting as a way to make rich soil for gardens or landscaping. Others compost food waste just so it doesn't end up in a landfill or littering bits all over the place in the back yard. If you have a large family or limited trash removal that biological waste can take up space you're paying for in the bin or carrying to the dump. Usually takes a few weeks depending on how often you turn it. Bacteria are breaking it down basically into dirt so always wash your hands.

    Hi! Can't the rats dig under the compost since you removed the bottom? Great video always therapeutic to watch:)

    • @DadhowdoI
      @DadhowdoI  8 днів тому +4

      They were able to dig the compost pile because the ground was very soft. I am hoping since I dug down into the hard ground. It might be harder for them to dig. We will see 🤔

      I've made compost in a big plantar before. Make sure the plantar has drainage holes. Put twigs and leaves in the bottom, then compost from the kitchen. Alternate with browns (leaves, cardboard pieces, paper, etc) and compost. I top it off with dirt. I let it sit like 4 or 5 months and then used the soil in it for my garden

    Great job. The only thing I am concerned about is the smell because of the hole.

    • @landkmarjoram6163
      @landkmarjoram6163 5 днів тому +1

      A mix of dry and damp helps keep the smell down, we throw shredded paper in ours every so often, toilet roll tubes etc.
      Too wet, stinky, too dry, also stinky.

      @@DadhowdoIit seems it may have been better to leave the bottom of the can on. Then it would be easier to turn the material inside every week or so, after adding compost. Plus the matter towards the bottom bottom is what is typically ready to use first, so I'm wondering how you plan to get that. It's a decent idea, but not one of the more thought out options I've ever seen, and I multiple people who compost & use the broken down material.

    I started my compost in a metal can that was a little rusty and already had holes. I keep it inside my shed, however. A while ago I transferred it to a larger plastic trashcan. Every now and then I take a shovel to mix it up. Do you stir yours up, or just let it sit?

    • @DadhowdoI
      @DadhowdoI  8 днів тому +1
