As someone who is not always in the loop of the competitive meta, I really appreciate having pictures of mentioned cards briefly pop up on screen! It really helps me to follow along with his explanations ❤

My favourite is boardbrealers that are good going first, you get the benefit of regular boardbreakers that need less main deck space and aren't dead when drawn as a sixth card, but also you can still go first and have them be useful by being extra interruptions like handtraps or help you play through your opponent's handtraps handtraps. My favourites are droplet, talents, super poly, the new girsu quickplay, econ, fenrir, the newly unlimited striker engine, book of moon and the best of all is imperm that's literally both a handtrap and a boardbreaker and isn't even once per turn and also synergizes amazingly with droplet. Many of these are deck and/or format dependent though so just test around and see what fits you best.
What about book of eclipse? Its a quickplay and helps stopping interaction on the board.

@@PineapplePizzaBiS not really, some may require specific deck types to work most effectively like super poly in fusion decks but there's enough such cards that any deck can at least play some number of them especially the most generic ones that are good in all sorts of decks and matchups, again you just gotta tinker around and see for your own what works best

Not that imperm was a bad card before, but it seems like a HUGE winner for this banlist. It has applications to stop cards like Protos from stopping you from playing you or you can just hold it for your opponent’s appo or Colossus.
Same with dark ruler. If you can effectively stop your opponents recurrence, dark ruler can do a lot in this upcoming format.

Boardbreakers coming back is great. Going second is already a miserable experience so I’m glad this alleviates the issue a bit.

Board breakers being let out of the cage is a double-edged sword for Kaijus, they're not as vital to draw and deploy before you can boardbreak, but they do have their own board breaker (Slumber) that was freed with the rest and rewards playing more Kaijus to see them more often.

not only lowers the ceiling of the decks that uses them, it makes breaking board going 2nd easy.

What pure Snake-Eyes do now is use Accel Stardust as a bridge into Bystial Dispater and then you can make Omega and hand loop for 2

@@taibui5698 Well yes but if you've already gone through enough gas to get Nibed having this layer after the fact will still allow pure Snake-Eyes to be a tier 1 meta deck as thats slowly coming in from tournaments are already establishing and probably placing the Fire King version in the tier 0 slot. The aim shouldn't be to get rid of decks but to reign in their power and Konami has been doing that well with Tearlaments and Ksshtira. Its just that Kashtira still has Shifter thats annoying and people want gone because you can't realistically prepare for a Shifter deck that you rarely see in the tournaments you go to.
Thanks Josh for talking about something i had no idea to consider when building for a format. Just an MD player, but this channel, this video talking about handtraps or boardbreaking metas was key info i was missing as a player.

That's what I'm testing rn, 60 card go 2nd Despian. Some games I feel unstoppable, others I still get hand trapped to high heaven

Turns out board breaker is weaker after banlist because now two omni (which you can negate with droplet/DRNM) changed to 2 handrips + 1 monster negate. Or maybe no one is bothered to put Evenly on side deck.
i'm a HUGE fan of boardbreakers and i love to break "unbreakable" boards and leave the enemy stunned (i play mostly online so they ff)
i hope the direction will be as you said, 1-2 handtraps (3x ash/3x imperm for example) and paired with talents etc
it would also bring back some grindy decks that just got annihilated by the omninegates which would be awesome because grindy decks are banger
Dark Ruler also hits all monsters that don't say unaffected by card effects and if you use it and your opponent has Dragoon for example it will temporarily lose its protections and then can be targeted and/or destroyed by card effects. You can also use it when opponent has Apallousa and it will lose all the attack it gained for each material used to summon and put it to 0 for the remainder of the game.
Can you explain how dark ruler affects monsters that say unaffected by card effects?
@@MrJawshoouhh I didn't I said it affects everything else. Unaffected monsters Aren't that commonly made and Chaos Angel so expensive most budget players avoid it.

@@autobotstarscream765 Chaos Angel is good but it has its weaknesses and it might be more common because it can be used in variety of decks. Its just as you said it isn't a issue with board breakers and its so expensive that you could probably get 2 or 3 real strong decks for its price.

I will likely try and test a little bit of both if I am honest. It will likely depend on what deck im choosing to play
I think all 3 are a must. You need tactics to survive handtraps and you need hand traps amd board breakers to survive going 2nd😅

Even though I am currently testing Runick Forest in prepartion for INFO and initially felt a deep level of pain losing Baronne, I do really appreciate how it's pushing people to test new lines. Despian Lulawilith and even Centur-Ion Legatia make for super funny interactions I wouldn't have considered before.
I think the only problem on playing board breaker is branded, only good one is droplet againts him and if they full combo is still hard
Okay so i will just play a deck that can go second and extend like crazy... kashtira + punk + gold pride
My only thing is decks where more than half the deck is non-engine can use both so those decks I think will use a mix of both and if they can't stop you from playing they'll use Dark Ruler or Forbidden Droplets on you to try and seal the deal.
You could make the counter-argument that decks that pack a lot of engine natively have better odds of extending through interruption. You could argue that. I don't know if you specifically will argue that. Maybe some theoretical person that might exist.
@@dragon-id5uj Well yes but my point is Kashtira for example can have 3 Lava Golem, 3 Forbidden Droplets, 3 Dark Ruler, 3 Shifter, 3 Infinite Impermanence, 3 Ash Blossom, and 3 Prosperity( Which they can look at the top 6 and add a card up to twice per game.). There other decks out there with this level of room for non-engine such as Yubel where games aren't going to feel like games.

On your Point of not knowing which FK SE lines play around Nibiru.
A lot of common lines simply summon Flamberge Dragon by summon 5 and then proceed to make Apolllousa OR Garunix to pop Arvata, link into Princess to bring back Arvata before they link off flamberge Dragon.

I think ABC will be in a really nice spot once we get wave 2 Vaalmonica if we're in a board breaker format since they can end on Appo + Regulus and if they nib before you appo you just float with your ABC names and on ABC with 1-2 card Immunities.

The Vaalmonica engine finally making proactively equipping names to ABC relevant is really cool.

@knnydp Are you crazy? Lv4 Scales for monsters that can't special summons themselves and 2 of which add cards to hand when sent to GY.
Scelta is a searchable way to put driver back in deck, and Vaal has another (field spell that searches) so you're less likely to have something like destrudo/Rev Synchron in hand but no field spell.
My current Ratios Game 1 are: 3x Union Hangar, 3x Agathokakological, x3 Dragon Ravine, x2 Discoliseum, x1 Chicken Game, x1 Terraforming, x1 Set Rotation
90% odds at having field spell access for AFD
The thing about Vaalmonica is it lets you play super greedy you can union for A and B or double B to search twice instead of having to go for crusty lines where you choose not to use A to recycle because you need each name k. GY for ABC but when you can just pend summon in case you get nibbed or worse if they nib after you pend and then you still end on ABC with Immunity from 2 of the card types.
I'll admit the synergy is like speedroid kash where Vaalmonica works with ABC but Vaalmonica doesn't do much on its own except like Bagooska pass if you open only scales.
I'll probably end up sticking with my 60 card 3 pile that runs just extenders since any two 3s on field is Goblin combo and Goblin combo gets you to all the other 3 engines (save for punk), meaning that most hands can push through just about anything, except droll, or nib, in which case if it resolves I will simply cry
For me it looks like a Solid mix with ash, imperm,nib and ruler in the main deck does the job. And then other things like evenly, ghost ogre and veiler in the side and ur gucci? No clue man i think its good

I like board breakers that are non interactible like sphere mode,kaiju, divinecarnate, super poly, and ultimate slayer. Ultimate slayer is especially nice if you pitch a n'tiss to pop annoying floodgates. Skill drain? No prob effect activates in gy so it doesn't matter

Going second Dragunity Tenpai is going to go hard. Dragunity Whirlwind is such a good going second card, finally get to main deck it and play going second, my favorite llaystyle

I like Imperm, Forbidden Droplet, Super Poly, Talents. Cards like Evenly Matched and Lightning Storm are bad, except against backrow decks.

So, as a Madolche player, i can say that Queen is my board breaker, [2 non target shuffles] so i have to play hand traps to stop my opponent from trying to stop her. I guess Nib counts as a board breaker hand trap right?

Almost seems like they want board breaking cards and handtraps to be more like an engine/kit.
Less about innovation in deck building and more about optimizing in-game interactions.

FK can play Dullitle Chimera to make Appo before you commit to the FK cards that might be the main route round Nib
That at least means Apollousa will barely be a factor in their end board. Apollousa always reads insane, but sorta like LAD back in the day you just force a negate or two and then run it over. No Linkuriboh ensures that Apollousa doesn’t survive an extra attack and if you want to commit to a 2/3 material Apollousa so that Nib doesn’t go through then by all means. That just means you’ll have an 800/1600 attack Apollousa that pretty much any normal summon can walk over. It’s such a low power Apollousa that I don’t think it’ll matter that much. Odds are we’ll see people play into it like they did during Kashtira format because the end board that you make playing around it is too weak

been playing those lines since before the banlist, board is still quite strong - you often end on 2 mat appo + amblowhale w/ princess in grave and Kirin in hand + garunix + arvata in grave
the tradeoff, of course, is forsaking masq setups, unless you open insane and then you can go for all 3

Currently at YCS Raleigh. The answer is 100% hand traps. Always hand traps. Very glad I made the right call today. I'm on pure and played through every board breaker that got thrown at me lol

Yo Centur-Ion is coming up! Board destroyer like Harpy feather duster, Raigeki, Lightning storm etc. Are useless against it, You need a card like Super poly or Forbidden droplet to shutdown 'em completely
playin it safe means for me 3 ash, three imperm, three talent, three fenrir.

I think this Format Kashtira and they are winners this meta for sure because they can run as many hand traps as they need to influence their opponent so they can't get more than 1 or 2 big boss monsters and then they can use Nibiru, Dark Ruler, and whatever else they have at their disposal to bust through and otk you. They have so much for non-engine that you can make them good going first and going 2nd and because you barely need your extra deck you can use Prosperity up to twice per game to search for non-engine and engine pieces. This deck technically doesn't it normal summon so Lava Golem is 100% on the table. I mean think about Rise-Heart, Scareclaw Kastira, and Tearlaments Kastira aren't restricted the same way Fenrir is so you can use them Kashtiratheosis and Wraitsoth to not need your normal summon. I think ban list favors them enough solidify them as a tier 1 strategy. The reason why Forbidden Droplets works so well in Kashtira is because of the way they are designed you barely need your hand you summon Fenrir or Unicorn, they search for the card you need, and then you generally don't need the rest unless your trying to push for extra deck plays.

@@dragon-id5uj Not every deck can use Lava Golem. But decks like Yubel have similar amounts of room and when people face them games won't feel like games. Theoretically Yubel can use Lava Golem really well just not as well as Kashtira because sometimes Yubel still needs its normal summon. You have pretty consistent 2 card combos and Phantom of Yubel when it comes out that allows you to use Lava Golem pretty effectively.
I have doubts about banning Barone and Savage will change much of the negate meta. Players who relied on negates will find other suitable negates to replace them. Thought, I agree with you on Tactics and Talents, those will still be very strong and they are the ones I thought about playing the most.
part of those cards strengths were how easy they were to summon, addressing that still weakens a deck
Most meta decks didn't even consistently use Barrone or Savage outside of Snake Eyes so yeah not much is changing .
At first, I was sad for the baronne ban for my VW brave deck, but honestly if my engine becomes better that might be a nice trade, I just need to pay more attention to nib now (I hate that card)

I get that some people think a deck shouldn't be a top deck for 2 years, but I feel like without that toxic floodgate stuff it's a really fun and interesting deck. It has a lot of counterplay. It's endboards are interactive too. And because it's been a deck so long, there's lot's of resources out there.

Yugioh players have really only been taught going first is good. Its hard to convince or change the philosophy on going 2nd to everyone whose always believed going first is the best
I feel like turn 1 is better for decks that can't realistically OTK.

If you don't need to stop them bc you wipe the board with 2 cards/steal their creatures and your deck can play againts 2 or 3 interactions after that and potentially kill them, then turn 2 is turbo broken
It's better for all decks, but still not optimal for most decks. A deck like Fire King is still going to want to set up the board if given the chance.
Super poly to me is one of the best especially since Hero players like me it's so good in our deck
Omni heroes are not impactful enough and both cross crusader and infernal devicer cant activate their effect ifu summon starving venom or garura.... its very bad in heroes
Your wrong because the point is to activate on opponents turn disrupt there play and sometimes later during duel works great

Baronne and Savage were not heavily played in pure snakes wasnt until the end of the format ppl would play them, but its not baronne or savages fault. Konami hit Baronne cuz Tenpai. Why hit Baronne then release a generic rank 10 Negate secret lol. 1 omni Negate was not the issue at all lmaooo i could have 3 baronnes ans 2 savages and snake eye would play through it, the problem is snake eye being a easy link climb was the problem and continues to be the problem. i dont think anyone on earth thought a swordsoul end board was too broken it needed a ban. You ban orginal sinful spell and the format wouldve FAR healthier. Dont like Konami banning cheap mass printed cards after years of a 100 dollare pay wall when WE ALL KNOW snake eye is the issue.
They wanted to hit something for SE without directly touching the deck, Baronne, Savage and Linkuriboh got banned because of this.
While I am happy Fleur and Borreload are out, I would still like to see a format that requires brain power and long term thinking. You can't get much depth when every game ends turn 2

I'll probably play a mix like have been. I'm so skilled at the game that I was using Dark Ruler No More before the ban list because I almost always made the decisions with the best when it came to my interruptions after and before using Dark Ruler when I get dialed in I almost always play the perfect game and so I could win with almost any deck in the game that could make at least 3 interruptions so long as I had Dark Ruler or Kaiju's to make sure I had the cards to break the boards certain decks I would be playing couldn't break. What helped me get into the game was anime and access to online simulators. Because I've watched the anime since duel monsters I already had a good foundation going into the game and I have a keen sense for whats good. But having UA-cam as a resource allowed to learn of the existence of certain cards faster. Eventually would have figured it out after losing. But because I had content creators like you and the Cali Effect I didn't have to lose to find out about the cards I lost to after searching through the games entire card pool. You can use Dark Ruler, Lava Golem, and Forbidden Droplets and they'll almost never be able to respond to Dark Ruler and Droplets and if you combine that with 3 copies of Shifter the games become incredibly unfair.
Play a deck that can search secret village of the spellcasters 😂
I love the "catch up" Description for evenly and storm not that the game is pretty much over for the player getting hit by them😂 like imagine telling a trap player hey now that I lightning stormed your 5 sets we are caught up or someone that has all their monsters in atk a link deck for example now we are on even grounds buddy 1-2 cards on your hand to my 5 😂😂😂

Nibiru literally imo only stops a rogue deck... it slows down a meta deck to where their end board is maybe breakable

@@haihoang6855 Calamity isn't good against certain decks. So you can go Blazar and then Calamity or make 2 Blazars.

We need more cards like the Bystials. Solid archetype that searches and recycles itself, while being both handtraps and boardbreakers.
Hopefully, the new "Minn C" archetype is a similar style of cards.
And shoutout to Imperm, probably the best "single card" hand trap in the game. Stopping a combo player's key effect might make the whole game a breeze, and most are reliant on at least one monster effect on the field. Plus, it plays around Talents + Thrust.
Kinda thinking one of the best choices is just gas, gas, gas. Not many decks can push so hard, but if every card is a wincon, the negates will run out, eventually. Maybe..
I really enjoy this discussion, but I do think your evaluation of Super Poly and Droplet are a bit dismissive. A lot of decks have flexible interactions that rely on responding to your opponent, even if they're not direct negates, or protection from destruction/targeting effects, and having functionally unrespondable interaction at quick effect speed is always extremely powerful.
Obviously they're not for every deck-like you said, Super Poly is hard to justify in decks that possess a tight ED, and some decks can't justify discarding or sending cards to grave for Droplet-but they're a real force to reckon with in decks that can afford it
I already play a deck that can handle all three of the best board breakers (Evenly, Nibiru, Storm) effectively...

@@yunfanji Ghost Sister and Spooky Dogwood might help lol. I'm gonna try it out in the Side Deck and see what happens. Plus there's Ghost Mourner which can Negate and Burn your opponent. Idk Imma try these out and see.
The amount of people calling for generic cards like Baronne to be banned suddenly deciding Baronne is actually based and makes their garbage pet deck playable because it was made insanely cheap by the Rarity Collection is just laughable. The entire discourse around banning these cards hinges around a bunch of budget players not liking the fact that they only got 6 months to play with their $3 Baronne even though the card could’ve been banned 2 years ago.
The other bit of discourse is people complain that Apollousa is still around, even though this video hit the nail on the head exactly in that Apollousa isn’t that good when it’s alone. Hence why it wasn’t played until MR5 made synchros playable again so that Savage could protect it. The thing came out July 2019. As in, it was playable the entire time during TOSS since that format didn’t end until the January 2020 list killed all 4 of those top decks. A single Imperm answers Apollousa. A single Talents answers it. If it wasn’t made with IP then every single board wipe also deals with it. It’s also laughably easy to run over in battle, especially now that there’s no Linkuriboh to give it not-quite-battle-protection. If you want to sink most of your board into a 3 material Apollousa then be my guest. The thing has only ever been a problem when Omni negates existed to protect it. Hell the one time it was playable during MR4 was when we had Agarpain cheating out Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss. Because, again, Apollousa is only ever a problem when it has an omni negate protecting it.
People misunderstood the point of the changes. It wasn't "ban everything that stops their monster effect combo pile", it's "ban the most common things making boardbreakers useless _against_ their monster effect combo piles without drawing Kaijus and Pals/DRNM/Droplet AND Raigeki/Lightning Storm/Dark Hole/Slumber which will brick their engine". Chaos Angel dies to Raigeki without Baronne or Savage protecting it. App dies to Raigeki without Baronne or Savage protecting it. Colossus will now die to everything because it wasn't let out of the cage until Baronne and Savage were caged. And don't forget App also gets deleted by Ogre without another monster negate backing her up. 😈
