I love all the content you do on the T4. Its such a underrated buggy and doesn't get the attention it deserves!
Thanx for going the extra mile to take the time to run this test. Helps me make the decision to go ahead and pull the trigger on the heat shielding.
No problem after first video of install we felt we needed a real test to try it out. -Garrett
Can you do the same noise test on a flat dirt road to eliminate pavement tire noise from the test? Maybe put the phone on a mount so there's no hand muffling and it will be the exact same spot in both machines?
I agree we could test and see that as well, but both machines are running the same tire set.
@@DerangedOffRoad yes I knew you mentioned that. I was curious about the sound level difference between pavement and tar. Since there's almost no tire noise on dirt. Mine is annoyingly loud on pavement even with stock tires.
Yeah mine actually seems quieter on pavement when I installed my new tires.
I lifted my T4 LE and added big tire beadlocks .. now it doesn't fit in the garage. I need one of those RV garages.. pretty sweet. Appreciate your effort adding some "scientific monitoring tools" aspect to this quest.
I have the exact model (color) your dad does. Teryx are great little vehicles. Thanks for putting this together. Live in AZ and the summers bring up that heat a lot. Will have to spend some time applying some heat shielding.
Love the content you guys do. Especially on the T4. Keep them coming.
Great review i just bought a 2023 S two seater might try sound proof . But in the first 1500 klms i love the machine .
Line the inside of the plastic with dynomat to reduce sound.
I found the same results after doing mine. No question it helps with the heat.
If you can cut 10 to 15 degrees in areas that are hot it makes a big difference for sure.
-Garrett
Great videos you guys should try removing the catalytic converter and put a blower motor on the intake of the belt make such a huge difference in cooling these machines 😎
Yeah I've heard of people doing that with good results. Thanks for the reminder......but should be have to do that?
-Dave
I have considered that as well, do you think it would be a warranty issue? -Garrett
I realize your comment was 3 years ago….. But, what did you find out about the warranty? I was thinking of putting the belt temp gauge in. Would that effect the warranty?
Thanks for your information, I own a "16" Teryx krf800 le camo, I did some heat and sound deadening, it did wonders, I wished that the factory would have done it before they allowed them to leave the floors
I agree 💯-Garrett
What did you do for the sound? The same thing?
i put heat shield on my 2019 teryx and it made a big difference on the heat and noise
Thanks for watching 👍 -Garrett
You just gave me an idea I'm going to go out warm up by teryx use my flir camera and give you an actual infrared video.
That would be awesome
For the T4 heat, you need to remove the 2 catalizer inside the headers. Little bit of response time and way less heat. No engine light at all.
We have heard that, but never tried it. 👍
Teryx a great looking machine but I'm buying the Yamaha wolverine because of the noise and heat problem. Always been a big Kawasaki fan but you need to do something about this machine.
Thanks for the honest review regarding the sound. Now is there really any way to fix the sound? I would love to hear any ideas.
Yeah get a com setup, best money we ever spent.
Thank you its a good vid. I have to ask though why not wrap the exhaust with heat tape? For the heat problem.
Just didn’t get that far and honestly what I did made a huge difference.
Oh and by the way the Teryx2 is just a bit louder, because of the 2 storage units behind the driver and passenger area, so I wrapped the sound and heat deadening around them too, remembering to poke the 2 drain holes in each one
What mil did you use? Or could recommend?
My wife and I are looking into a Teryx 4 2021 LE. Coming off from Kawasaki Brutes, Yam Grizzly and Honda Foreman’s is the heat comparable to that on an atv? Or is it more? I’ve heard Can Am has some same issues on Mavericks
Overall it can get pretty hot. One key is to have a half windshield or a windshield with big vents. Overall even with the heat issue you can’t go wrong they’re very dependable and have a great three year warranty. -Garrett
I live in Alaska where the engine heat is a plus 9 months out of the year. I was hoping the noise reduction worked because I like tunes
same here , I actually like the heat coming from it even in summer, its not that hot here in Alaska, especially in the mornings
Alaska as well. I I just got my T4. It has a heater and full cab enclosure. We will see if I need to do this.
@@livinthelegend does the sound bother you much. I'm thinking about getting one. thx
It is quite loud however I don’t go fast much or for very long periods. Rough terrain where so ride so we stay at 15 MPH or less a lot. At those speeds it isn’t horrible. My buddy has the Wolverine x4 and his is noticeably quieter than mine. With that said during our Sep moose hunt we traveled a total of 287 miles. I pulled him out 4 times and winched out to him once. Mine was a hold my beer and watch this moment so self inflicted for sure. The T4 is a beast.

Have they made any upgrades to the 2023s? To lower the heat and sound?
None, it’s the same setup
Thanks for the vid!!!
I live in at the desert at tucson

I think the wind noise from the half windshield probably contributes somewhat to the noise on the older one as well, but I did noico mat a year or two ago in mine and couldn't really see any appreciable reduction in noise either.
But yeah heat was definitely improved. My right leg used to always be cooking during the summer. Now it's downright tolerable.
That’s why we took the reading on the drivers side because I felt the same way. The mat totally fixed that for me and my kids said it was way better in the back as well. The windshield noise could be it, didn’t think about that. 👍 -Garrett
@@DerangedOffRoad I would bet the half vs full windshield had a lot to do with it. I know rolling in my T4 without a windshield, the wind noise seems to be what makes it most difficult to communicate with the rear seat passengers, not the engine noise.
The T4s with no roof or just a cloth roof are quieter than ones with a hard roof that reflects and bounces the noise around. I have been trying to think of a material that is weather proof of, looks good and will absorb the noise to put on the underside of the roof. That would make a huge difference I think.
@@1ltlbrnc
I'm planning on buying some 95% sunshade fabric to make a soft roof for mine to install for summer use, and then put the hard roof on on the winter. I'm in Utah County, so it gets a little colder here in the winter.
Let us know how that turns out with fabric and didn’t think about the hard roof causing more sound. Thanks for the input -Garrett
Great video guys!!
What in states where it isn't ungodly hot in the summer. MIGHT get over a 100 .... 5 times a year in MI. Not much of an issue. Here in Michigan some of that heat would feel good in the fall. Waste of time in my book.
I live in a area that is 100 to 115 at times three months and over 90 plus two or so other months. So not a waste of time here. 👍
@@DerangedOffRoad I couldnt take that heat.
The garage is twice the size of my house.
In an unrelated question do your machines back wheels when following do the tops of your tires lean in a lot because mine and three others in my part of woods in Iowa seems like camber is terrible. tires seem to wear fine though
Yes completely normal on the Teryx. 👍
At the end of the day the teryx is still an oven.......
An amazing machine!
In NYS helmets are law. I’m wondering how much a proper fitting helmet would cut down on the decibel levels. Anyone know if a site or something that would show it?
Omg! I like watching these test or reviews but my gosh enough with the stupid background music👎
Just a little info not really important in this application but those cheap thermometers lose accuracy really really badly once you get beyond about 3 inches of what you are trying to measure
Yeah I was reading about that not long ago.
The rear storage box for the bed....where does it come from? Is it a Kawai manuf accessory?
I believe it has been discontinued. I would maybe try eBay and places like that for one. It’s a Kawasaki part but wasn’t cheap.
@@DerangedOffRoad Thanks
I'm not familiar with these machines but I've always been interested in one. I realise that the engine is up front and in between the driver and passenger, but is the noise too loud to have a conversation at cruising speed? My 2019 commander 1000r was unbearable to me.
It’s going to be just as bad as your commander
@@DerangedOffRoad oh gosh!
😂😂I love it he had the key 🔑
I won’t say if I did it on purpose or not! 😃
-Garrett
I will, Dave, how long did you sit there until Garrett realized he had the key in his pocket?
What did you use for heatshield
I used something different but this is what I’m using for my KRX and I think it’s better.
Thermo-Tec 14620 60" X 36" Heat... www.amazon.com/dp/B004PILLZG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Anyone know if it’s normal for Teryx to give off smoke and fumes during break in period?
During the first little bit you'll definitely get some smoke and fumes coming off the hot metal. How far into it are you?
That is correct if it’s brand new it will smell, smoke and have some heat for about 20 to 50 miles and it’s mainly from the exhaust pipe. 👍-Garrett
Deranged Off-Road thanks for the reply I just got it yesterday and took it out for a short drive it got 1 mile on it
Then it should be just fine soon. 👍
I stumbled you about a week ago researching a teryx4. Been watching everything I can about the heat issue. Here in Texas where we ride it's about the mud and Sandy trails. I own a ranger crew now, love it and obviously don't have those issues, but it's just too long for the trails I ride on the t4 looks like it will be the next new choice. After learning about the heat from you I spoke with a dealership Saturday about this problem and said later models have a cooling fan to prevent the heat transfer. Does the 17 or and the 19 have one? If they do I will definitely be heat shielding .
Older models, pre 16 or 15 had fans under the driver's seat. Not sure how much of a difference they actually made. Most people seamed to remove them so I don't think they made much of one. No newer ones do unless some dealer is trying something. A good header coating would help a lot with the heat too. A fan behind the stock battery mount to blow through the tunnel for slow speeds would make a difference i would think.
Yeah the newer ones don’t, but I’m going to come up with something for under the seats as well. A lot of heat comes out there and sends it through the cab. - Garrett
Here's an IR video of my 2013 teryx4 with 1" heat shield installed.
ua-cam.com/video/wzQXiE9F2ts/v-deo.html
From the looks it seems to be working in the areas it needed it. What do you think after that video? -Garrett
Eight degree ain’t shit.
I would rather be in 72 degree weather then 80 when riding.
Figure out how to keep the music and talking at the same sound level. It’s fucking annoying having to keep adjusting he volume
heresmyfunnyname I didn't notice any issues with the sound.
