"I just saw it as a hard marriage". 😢 I'm so glad Sheila and many others are pointing out the fact that normalizing marriage being hard is not OK. Marriage can be beautiful and easy. An *ABUSIVE* marriage is hard. It's why I stayed in my first abusive marriage....because I was constantly told that marriage is "hard". I was never taught what was ok and what wasn't, so _everything_ that was happening all fell under the umbrella of a "hard" marriage and suffering for Christ.
This is the thing....the Evangelical Industrial Complex worships marriage and when marriages have problems...it's the woman who should fix it. Men are rarely held to account. Evangelical leaders are looked to as all wise and all understanding and all powerful. This story is infuriating and it peels back the veneer of the abuse of power and how the church supports it.
exactly - and we see on youtube on the part of some narrow-minded and legalistic pastors, instructions to women on how to behave toward their husbands and so many women agree - i call that brainwashing, cult mentality
This was such a great interview with Naghmeh. I appreciate her so much and her courage to stand for what is right and speaking the truth about very well known Christians in America and and what is so terrible about many of our church systems. In my mind she is a hero and has provided a shelter for many of us women coming out of similar abuse situations that she has. I’m just starting to read her book and it is very good and is fascinating about her life in Iran. Thank you for doing this interview with her Shiela . I appreciate both of you so much and it’s encouraging to be apart of such encouraging and truthful conversations and community.
I’m getting the audible book next month… can’t wait! I heard her on the Roys Report podcast a couple of years ago, heartbreaking. I remember praying for Sayid and following the story. Amazing how she set herself free from the abuse she is an absolute inspiration ❤❤❤❤
Im glad to know the end of this story. Years ago, when her husband was in prison, I, too, prayed for his release. I knew she wanted to stay separated after his release, but I didn't know why. I'm thankful she's sharing her story. The truth always wins. When I left my abusive husband many years ago, I kept silent. I allowed everyone to assume I was the rebellious one, which is how he always made me out to be. The real truth was dishonoring to him, and I still wanted to protect his image. I told myself it was for the sake of our children. I now realize it was just his control over me that made me continue to protect him.
I remember getting emails about this guy. I remember praying for him. I remember the truth coming out, and thinking we made a HUGE mistake in crying out for his release... You're an incredibly strong, gracious lady. That you can see the good in this situation - I have nothing but admiration for you, Ma'am.
Well, I can safely say that this podcast (and the recording, which I listened to in full) destroyed my last shred of respect for Franklin Graham. He's no better than John Piper in his narrow understanding of abuse. As for the church being spearheaded by women in the Middle East, is it any more radical than women's role building the early Church in the Roman Empire, where wives were just as much property as they are in much of the Middle East? The Lord still uses the weak to shame the strong. Thanks be to God for this indescribable gift!

For me also, it was a long path to accept that my "hard marriage" was actually abusive -- and I thought that it was just me. The more I hear other women's stories, I'm realizing that we, and our experiences are more alike than different. Nagmeh is a strong and beautiful woman! 😇 The attitude and actions of franklin graham shocked me! I have seen men from eastern cultures with this attitude, but never expected a man from a Christian culture to think or act in this manner. And he's supposedly a Christian leader??? -- NO WAY!!!!! (I would even expect a non-Christian man from a western culture to be more fair, or humane, towards women!). Definitely eye opening 👀!!
Your voice is powerful, and your heart is good, Naghmeh! Keep spreading the truth because the tears you cried will become healing water to other women.

This is so infuriating. I just read of a horrific story what John MacArthur did to a woman who needed help with her husband. It was handled very similarly. But Mac Arthur excommunicated her. Her husband was arrested and imprisoned. These churches are lost!
This is the 3rd video I've watched of hers in a row. First thing I noticed was that she's gorgeous. The second thing I noticed was that she had I beautiful spirit.

Thats exactly why i stopped going to church. My pastor/counselor said i need to be kinder to my neglectdul and dismissive spouse.😮😢
