    The New World is amazing. Malick is a very unique filmmaker. The voice-over narration is usually divisive for people. His movies are really abstract and impressionistic. I think he wants to explore the interior life of a person's soul while contemplating nature and God. I believe Malick received a philosophy degree from Harvard, so his point of view in general is more academic than a lot of other directors. I'm not sure if The Tree of Life is more accessible, but I personally think it has Brad Pitt's best performance ever. Good taste! Hope you like them!

    Andrei Rublev is absolutely amazing! I'm so glad you decided to check it out.

    I would say The New World is more accessible than Tree of Life although I think Tree of Life is often the Malick film people say is their favorite. I prefer The New World, The Thin Red Line and A Hidden Life to the others I have seen! Beautifully shot films!

    Nice picks guys! Tampopo is good stuff. Now you need to do a Criterion haul where you just pick movies based on their spine color ~

    The New World, as well as Tree of Life, are incredibly introspective films from various characters' points of view. I'd personally suggest starting with New World because I think it's a little more grounded. The story is much more rooted in history, but the romance aspect has never been substantiated from what I could find. Makes for a good story, though. 😅

    Thanks for the pleasure honoring us with a new friend, DJ! We had another storm so can't write you up a storm like usual due to the lack of power so appreciate your energy boost (once again, you being like the always jovial fun Son Goku befriending people on his Dragon Ball collecting journey and giving people his energy!)! I got to watch Andrei Rublev thanks to Conner's recommendation and thought the filmmaking was incredible! Very immersive film on the level of LOTR since you mentioned it! Hope you and your family are doing great! Thanks again for your wonderful work! God bless you!

    Julian sands, AH-MAZE-ING in this film. So sad that he recently passed away. Incredible actor - seemed like a gentleman in all of his roles.

      So shocking and tragic! I read and watched A Room With A View at the end of May and didn't even know he had gone missing until then! He truly embodies George in the film ❤

    Merchant and Ivory are sublime filmmakers The Bostonians with Christopher Reeve is a good film not yet in Criterion and Maurice with Hugh Grant and Howard’s End in the collection but now OOP. A Room with a view is one of their best.

      Oh cool, I have Howard’s End. I didn’t know that was the same director. Thanks for the recommendations!

      I love Room With a View. Sad now thinking of Julian Sands passing. He's wonderful in it. Maurice also a cracker. There is a uk bfi release of it which I have. If you get uk releases wait for a bfi sale.

    The New World is my favorite Malick. (Of course it is; I love period romances.) There are actually three different cuts of the film on the Criterion release. I wonder which one you'll choose to watch first...

    • @FilmsByColor
      @FilmsByColor  Рік тому

      Oh nooooo. Don’t give me even more decisions to make

    • @annabueno1150
      @annabueno1150 Рік тому

      @FilmsByColor Lol. Malick did the first cut at 150 minutes, but the studio said he needed to cut it down to 135 for the theatrical release. Then a few years later he went back to it and made the 172-minute extended cut. I watched the First Cut first because I figured it was his purest original vision; then I watched the Extended Cut later. I'm actually not sure which of those I prefer. But now I've still never seen the Theatrical Cut, and I don't really know why I ever would.

    Oh I just saw Tthe New World' last Thanksgiving. It's very good, definitely takes it time, in a good way. I don't think I've seen another Terrance Malleck film yet. But I'm interested in seeing 'Thin Red Line' next.

      That’s good to hear. Great idea watching it on Thanksgiving. I’ll have to try to do that this year.

    Tree of life is NOT his most accessible film imo although it’s great
    Days of Heaven or The New World would be a better option I think than that film as far as accessible goes
