are you at all interested in a recipe for a good crackle paint?
i discovered a mix that if u get it just right could rival citadel's agrellan earth, but at a fraction of the cost with readily available ingredients. (i made 400ml for less then €4)
how come there are no vietnam kit?
I really love the newer Tamiya figure sets. Real faces, perfect gear, very well executed medals and ribbons - what more can you ask for? They aren't exactly cheap but the quality beats every other manufacturer of styrene figures, even MB. All we need are more different sets with different uniforms and poses.
Agreed! 👍
True!
The poncho tent idea seems good until your mates get shot up and you not only lose your friends but also your shelter
NO. M36 tunic had dark collar, yes. M41 lost the dark collar however retained pleated pockets. M43 (these figures) pockets are not pleated, and the pocket flap is straight not scalloped, no dark collar. The final stage of economizing was the M44 which had no pocket pleats and no skirt so it resembled an "Ike" jacket. I've collected German uniforms for over 50 years and would refer you to Brian L Davis, Uniforms and Traditions of the German Army 1935-45. Good video and Tamiya are the best.
Brings me back almost 50 years , when me and friend in the Revell , Master Modelers Club , we weren't masters . We built every 1/35 scale WW2 model we found . Made many dioramas, no airbrush , just spray and brush paints . We ended up burning them in mock battles .
Compliments! I like what you're doing. Talking in detail about the figures and dropping knowledge while doing it 👍
Hank, I agree with you, Tamiya has really done a great job with their newer figure kits! I can't wait to get my hands on these thanks for the preview. I'm thinking a nice Köstritzer Schwarzbier would go well with this kit!
Ohhhh yum 😃🍻
How about a Stuttgarter or Wurzburger Hofbrau? =)... Tamiya has definitely stepped up their game. I was a little disappointed in the rank insignia in their US scout set... They show the proper WWII insignia on the box art but then give you modern yellow and green rank insignia... Makes no sense.

While the ankle boot replaced the high boot as leather became scarce as the war war dragged on., existing high boots continued to be worn and were popular as they were associated with the glory days. Soldiers in ankle boots fought a defensive war while the high boots were associated with better times. There were a nostalgic item. Interesting that the officer wears them still. Extremely well considered and researched display - thanks for that very informative review.
There are numerous Normandy invasion photos showing Germans wearing a whole mixed bag of uniforms including the ones shown here, plus even tropical uniforms from say, the Herman Goering division, that being light tan/sand super baggy pants with a regular Heer top, so these figures can be used together!
These look awesome! I can’t wait for some more new German figures from Tamiya, will be a nice addition to my Tiger 2 diorama, if I get to it ever! Thanks for these awesome product reviews/announcements, keep them coming!
Thanks for watching! I'm excited for these guys 👍
Great video - very clear & concise. Just one thing- where were you in 1958 when I started building plastic models, I sure could've used these simple tips (lol).
Haha my apologies, friend - I wasn't around at the time 😅Here now, though! Better late then never, I guess 🍻
Thanks Hank for another great update!
Another fantastic Tamiya kit to buy!!❤😊
Thank you very much!
NICE - I started modeling Tamiya figures and vehicles WAY back in 1977, and haven't built anything since 1999 - just happened to see your video and give it a peek. Oh, and LOVE the t-shirt !!
Ah thank you for watching! I hope you enjoyed (and maybe it inspires you to pick up another kit). The t-shirt is available in my shop (just below the video) if you're interested in grabbing one for yourself! 👕
FANTASTIC! And what a treat to get a review by an expert on uniforms who can n point out the differences most of us don't even know about. Thanks for posting and THANKS to Tamiya for yet another exciting release to look forward to... The poses look awesome and very useful for any diorama...
I'm really glad you enjoyed - thanks for watching!
@@SpruesNBrews I'dhsave to check out your figure painting videos.
I learned painting figures from Verlinden when I still worked there but I'm always eager to find out how others do it and learn new tricks....
Which ones can you recommend most?
That looks like a great kit, will be looking for it, thanks for sharing and also the background historical details as well.
Thanks for watching! 👍
Works for Me. The figures get more life-like as time goes by. Glad to see a young feller really enjoy the Hobby. This ole Dog just loves too learn new tips and tricks. Keep up the Vids. Well folks Over and Out.
Thank you very much! Cheers & thanks for watching 🍻
Thanks for the heads up, cant wait for when they come out so I can add them to my increasing list of Tamiya to buy stuff lol .
Haha me too!
A great set, I hope for some Fallschirmjäger, British infantry and Para's in the future
That would be great!!
I quite stoked for the infantry set, lovely Normandy dios/vignette potential!
so normally I'm not into building dioramas from the past, BUT this figure set is just AWESOME & OUTSTANDING & INCREDIBLE, like your (tutorial) videos mate....🤙😎😀🤘
Hey thanks! 😃🤘
I’ll be getting a set of these after watching this. Thanks for all the extra information about the equipment. Very interesting.
Glad to hear it was helpful! 👍
This figure set looks really good will have to pick one up when there released. I also like the inclusion of a gewehr 43 instead of a kar 98
Me too! I think it's a great addition 👍
There is a post office which has a model shop on the 1st floor that sells Airfix, Tamiya and several brands of soldiers and models in my town.
Palmetto state armory is making the Stug 44 available as a replica in a few calibers. May be a must have for some.
Fun fact the AK 47 doesn’t borrow inspiration from the stg 44, but instead the m1 garand. If you want to know more The Ak Guy posted a great breakdown of the two firearms
Ah no kidding! I'll have to check it out, thanks 👍
Thanks for the heads up there Hank, again another set to add to the stash, I'm still waiting for my LHS to get the US set in, NZ is such a long way away on occasion, it would be nice if Dragon re-released their Gen 2 sets also.
You got it! Thanks for watching 👍
Really enjoyed this video. Can feel your passion. You should do more like this 👍
Thank you very much! Will do 👍
Tamiya's box illustrations are also fantastic!
Oak leaf and fleck tarn is my favourite I've got a lovely tunic of the oak! And a jacket of flek
Ah nice! And yes, Oak Leaf is definitely a beauty 👍
Good video of an awesome figure kit!! Would be nice to see TAMIYA issue a few figure kits of Japanese troops, USMC troops from Guadalcanal through Okinawa (USMC uniforms and equipment evolved throughout the war), Italian troops would be nice, update their Soviet troops from the 1990s. But Japanese troops are what I would like to see the most.
Never cared much for figures, but I have to say you're pretty convincing and I'll absolutely give it a shot
Thank you! I wasn't at first, either - but now I really enjoy them! I think they add a lot to any armor or aircraft build 👍
Great kit! Großartig! Thanks, Hank!
Danke! And thanks for watching! 🍻
It's very encouraging to see about 72,000 other people clicked on a "Breaking Scale Modeling News" link.
Isn't it?? 🎉
Even though they are the baddies, the different poses and variety of uniform and accessories looks excellent. Got to be honest, I didn't know that Tamiya did figure kits, my bad!
This looks really really good, can't wait to get this one
Me either! 👍
Good looking set!
Great video thank you! 🙏
Thank you for watching!
Great review and history lesson. Thanks!!!
Thanks for watching!!
OMG I NEED IT :D I hope they will also provide decals for the Tellermine, otherwise I need to take one from my Miniart kits.
Right!? And I hope so, too! 🤞
would LOVE to see these a bit bigger in 1/16 scale..!
Wouldn't that be something!
Wish they released these multiple figure kits in 1/16 also
Outstanding video.
Other than the old dragon elite squad series, own very little 1/35 armour or troops.
Keen to paint these after your detailed review.
Thanks.
Great - thank you! I think you'll enjoy these; the last couple of figure offerings from Tamiya have been excellent 👍
This kit looks amazing. But on a side note, how did you mount that plane on your wall ? I love how it looks .
Thank you - and it's just a bit of high-test fishing line! 👍
Really nice news. Time to snip sprue, sip brew and plan for some diorama.
Haha YES! Bonus points for you 🍻
... I could be wrong, but all the chaps seem to have the latter M42, raw edge helmets also !.
Yes indeed - this new release looks like another awesome Tamiya figure set, but PLEASE MR TAMIYA - how about a brand-new tooled set of Japanese Infantry in both 1/35 & 1/48. The 1/35 set is now over 45 years old! Not only that there is not any 1/48 IJA or IJN figures, even though the 1/48 range is now quite extensive. The 2014 released IJA Officer set is wonderful, but how about following it up with more Japanese subjects?
These look awesome 😀
Right!? 😍
Absolutely love your channel, has I'm new to total model building, do you use a book to find out all about the uniforms?
Thank you very much - and no, most of this info can be found online! 👍
@SpruesNBrews Scale Modeling thank you
The figure set looks great but I was disappointed their was less model companies than years past!
I haven't checked out the full display from the event - but that does sound like a bummer!
I’m glad I sent that to you. Are you going to pick up the Panzer IV/70 A?
I saw that just after I saw the post, thank you! And I'd like to grab the IV, yes!
Looks great and the ponchos look class! But I want cold war era figures!!! When will they come to exist 😭
Great review
Thanks very much!
All i want is an SU-24 Fencer from Tamiya, do you guys know if the Trumpeter one is good???
I really like this channel! Subbed!
Thank you! Welcome aboard! 👍🍻
The uniforms are actually m43 feld bluse rather than m40
Dragon 6695DRA German Bivouac with Zeltbahn canvas tent and figures check them they don't have them on but a great set with the zeltbahns used for a camp!
Ah great! I'll check them out - thank you!
have you ever played a Real Time strategy game called ' Men Of War ' ? any of them are good.
The original Assault squad is my fav though.
An amazing looking set! Nice to see a good selection of quality plastic figures hitting the market. Would like to see more modern infantry though. Almost impossible to model a scene from Iraq or Afghanistan
I'm sure they'll come out with an update for modern figures soon! Fingers crossed🤞
imo vietnam is sorely underrepresented.
@@daveyjones5702 I wonder why ...
@@I_Don_t_want_a_handle considering the abundance of manufacturers who are european, japanese, chinese etc...
@@daveyjones5702 I think it's a question of pure economics. They make what they know sells. Perhaps if the hobby takes off in India and China then there would be a market? Currently what sells is WW2. Perhaps when all the boomers who are keeping the hobby afloat at the moment are gone the market may change.
Awesome!
I still want to know how to make zimmerit tho
I'll try to do a tutorial as soon as I can!
@@SpruesNBrews Thanks you so much😁
I need it. I bought it.
Right??
Waiting for delivery
Where did you find the full size gun kits on the shelves in the background
They're replicas from a company called Denix 👍
Nice MP-40, Sten, and MG42 on the back shelf!
Methinks it's an MG34, note the round barrel shroud.
Where'd you dig that up, Hank?
Good eye! Yes, it is a replica MG34 (from Denix, a Spanish manufacturer). The other two are an M3 Grease Gun & an MP40 👍
good shit hank!
Thank you! Cheers 🍻
Very nice
Thanks!
But painting that camouflage pattern, with the 'rain drops' is a terrible challenge, almost unachievable in 1/35. Unless someone has a winning technique, that they can share...
I'm hoping to do a little tutorial soon - it's super difficult, but I've managed it a couple of times. Stay tuned!!
I'd like to ask something totally different. How did you hang your B-17 model on the wall, which I can see on your right side wall from the video.
Sure! It's just a bit of high-test fishing line hanging on a screw - simple enjoy! The line is securely tied in around the landing gear 👍
Considering how bad the Tamiya figure sets have been in the past, they seem to really have upped their game with figures lately. Which is fantastic, because they are in cheaper plastic instead of the too often very expensive resin which is what you need to go for if you want higher quality figures (Alpine, I'm looking at you).
The only main issue is all of the figures are copies of dragon figures, all of them
Just a question to those who know more then I do. How do the 3D Resin figures stack up against the standard Plastic figures? I was getting the idea that the new resin figures had finder detail? Any insight would be welcome. Thanks.
Resin figures are phenomenal, and 9 times out of 10 will be a better quality than plastic (in my experience). The Alpine Miniatures line is one of my all-time favorites & makes some stunning resin figures (I have quite a few painting videos on them on my channel). These Tamiya figures are one of the few examples were I've seen the quality of a plastic kit come close to a resin figure kit. Hope that helps! 👍🖌️
@@SpruesNBrews Thank you for the expert insight on this. It's much appreciated. I'll be sure to checkout the painting tutorials!
How do you keep your work area so neat?!
Haha I've got to for filming - that's the only reason 😅
What did the mG 34 cost? I'm looking for one myself but finding them in part's mostly for stupid money lol
It's a replica! From Denix (a Spanish company, but they're available in the US). I got mine from replicaweaponry.com. 👍
I am definitely going to buy these as I am doing a battle of the bulge diorama
Awesome! Great idea 👍
I might post a video on how to paint a king tiger For Beginners
Looks like they're wearing the M43 tunic with no pocket pleats.
Ahh yes, I think they may be! There was another comment suggesting that as well; I may have misspoke 👍
Couldn’t agree more on the review. Sturm the u is pronounced like ooh, nice! St ooh rm. and gewehr the second e, from wehr is very much like we’re ready, “ge we’re”.
Ah thank you! That's very helpful - I'm working on my German, but it's a bit slow as you can see 😅
@@SpruesNBrews I could hear you trying, and, it is already quite good really, just trying to help. Speaking German well is hard, even for me as a Dutchman, although our languages are similar.
I genuinely appreciate the tips 👍
We need another 1/32 aircraft release from Tamiya.....
I'm sure we'll get some soon!
Doesn't this guy play with U2? Or is he just a scale model of the Edge?
Haha I've had a bit of time off touring 😉🎸
Very interesting figure set. Great variety of weapons and gear. Sadly wrong scale for me..
Have you got the new comet from Tamiya?
Not yet! Soon though - looking forward to it 👍
@@SpruesNBrews looking forward to the video!
@SpruesNBrews Scale Modeling I just picked up the Tamiya M10 IIC Achilles myself. I'll start that after the Hellcat!
I'm new to your channel. Can you tell me the story on your mg34 behind you or point me to a video about it
I'm hoping to shoot a video on it soon! It's a replica from a company called Denix. 👍
On average how much $ do one of these kits retail?
They're all under $20 US! This one is currently listed on the Tamiya site at around $17 when it arrives. A real steal! 👍
Hank's Hanger has a Bonanza?
Evidently! 😅
@@SpruesNBrews It's called the doctor killer.
Can you still bye MG42 full scale kit. In Canada..
I'm not sure about Canada!
stg didnt influence the ak tho
I hope you are right on the helmet thing.
Me too! 🤞
Seen the new tank from the show?
I have! It's a beauty 👍
@@SpruesNBrews Pre-ordered two of the figure sets from Squadron.
Wow, did the hipsters want their flat cap back?
It is possible to have more than one hat, you know 👍
Hi Hank I live in England UK during WW2 my Late Grandfather was in the famed British Army Commandos whom you're Army Rangers are based on, these military figures have there ever been any sets of British WW2 Army Commandos ?
Dragon has some.
Ah wow! That's very cool - and I think to the viewer below's point, Dragon should have some 👍 Happy building!
When you ordered Shane Smyth from wish.
Ooof 😅
@@SpruesNBrews I think me and Hank are quite stylish Gentlemen I must say!
Shame these are not in 1/16 scale
Maybe they'll upscale them later!
What his going on mintys
How would you do in painting some ork chieftain or the Predator? Have you tried it? Not that I've searched but never seen a crossover job. Some warhammer geek painting a T-34 and crew and some Tamiya geek painting winged monsters. :)
Haha I guess there's one way to find out!
When you say "Wehrmacht" I think you should be saying "Heer." Heer is the Army. Wehrmacht was the whole German Armed Forces.
Well said ! Common mistake from most... Glad to see you know your stuff...
Tamiya Stan Channel
Did you ever serve? Why yes or no?
Anyone else out there that would appreciate more Combat posed figures? Most of the figures these days are either rear area, or maybe close to the front but not in combat poses.
A fair point! Not as many "in action" poses lately - but I could definitely use some!
@@SpruesNBrews I remember getting the Tamiya US Army west europe WWII figures... It was all action poses... Even the guy with the tanker jacked carrying the thompson with his hand in the jacket pocket was more action minded than most of today's figures... My favorites from that kit were the guy leaning back firing the Thompson and the kneeling rifleman firing...
I think that after 3D printers entered the market, big manufacturers are losing market.🇧🇷🇧🇷
It just pushed them to do better instead of relying on sales of 40 year old kits that never got updated.
@@nobodyspecial4702 Yes, perfect placement.
is that need, or is it want ?
Depends on the day 😅
👁👁
Sadly dragon abandone there 1/34th milirary figure.
Oh did they? That's a bummer!
tamiya fait de belle maquettes et figurines le seul truc cet que pour les figurines elles ont toutes les meme figures dommage
Awesome review. Stg is not an "assault rifle" any more than an mp40 is an "assault pistol". It's simply a fully automatic rifle. Imagine calling the Mg42 an "assault machine gun". You do great reviews, I'm just trying to help you not spread the "assault rifle" propaganda 😉
Thanks! Sturmgewehr in German translates directly to "assault rifle" in English - so if that's what the designers called it, then that works for me! 👍
@SpruesNBrews Scale Modeling true, though it was for propaganda reasons even then. It was originally designated mp44. Automatic rifles are miss labeled to strike fear into the minds of those who have no working knowledge of them. I mean no foul, honestly.
