Cool. I'm the proud new owner of a 94 Hobie 17. It came with rigging for both the SE and Sport versions, including roller furler, but without a jib. Since getting it fixed up (wing port leaks) I've been sailing it as a cat rig, and I love it, but I'd like to try it with a foresail too. Can you share details of your setup?
Hi Duncan, at first sorry for my English. That what you see it´s not a Jib it´s a Gennaker from a Hobie 16. The Gennaker Boom is bild by my self. The Sunffer Kit is from Nacra because it´s not as expensive as the one form Hobie Cat and it works. Hier are a ditail pikture from a hobie 16 www.hobiestore.de/media/catalog/product/cache/7/image/5e06319eda06f020e43594a9c230972d/s/p/spikit16.jpg the mainsail was defect so I need a new one. I bought it from a very good sailmaker in Hamburg / Norderstedt. Now the boot is fast as a FX one. Her is a Link to some Picture of me. Have a Hobie Day!! plus.google.com/u/0/collection/0jT2gB
Your English is fine - certainly better than I would be able to do in your language! Those pictures are great. I'd love to have a foresail like that. I've never seen a gennaker or spinnaker on a Hobie 16, though I've heard some people have done it. Perhaps more common in Europe. Can you share any information about how you built the gennaker boom?
Hi Duncan, i can give you some advice, but the dimensions are metric. I have six meter aluminum tube black anodized 40 mm diameter wall thickness = 2.5 mm purchased. This is a standard length in Germany. If you are in a situation to buy a length of 3.6 meters that is enough. And the black anodized is for the optic ;-) and had nothing to do with the durability. The Items numbers are European. if you use Google you can find some pictures or can order them ware ever you live. For the connection to the beam you can use the normal Tiller connector item number HC 99501310. For the ends of the boom you need Caps. Item number HC 99220202.The part you have to install at the Beam under mast foot is Item number HC 16056025. Here is a link to an items list of a Hobie FX one where you can see the place you have to install the part. www.catawest.de/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/fxone.pdf. For all connections you have to use stainless steel pop rivets. If you sail in the salt water you should use under all parts tape. So you have less trouble with electrolysis. Spi Snuffer GFK Ring Item number HC 99267755. Nacra is cheaper ;-). I try to film a little tutorial it look at my Hobie 17 and how at look at a Fx one because I can´t explain it. It will take a view weeks because I spend my Holydays jet. Between our boots there is a little different. I use a Sidebar. Page 15 in the list below. You are using a normal Bridle.
