I'm looking forward to you doing a comparison between the Icom 9500 and the SDRPlay RSPdx. I know that a stand-alone receiver is easier to operate than a computer-controlled SDR but I'm interested in their reception performance.
6.070 mhz is located in Mississauga, Ontario just outside to the west side of Toronto. It is a rebroadcast of CFRB 1010. The 6.070 is using a vertical antenna with 1000 watt. Only two shortwave stations are a live in canada CFRB is one of them the second is in Calgary. The superintendent for the shortwave station is a ham radio operator his name is Steve.
The Bose speaker definitely gives the WJ a leg up on the ICOM, much like my Bose headphones. Question does the ICOM’s sync function have selectable USB or LSB or just plain double sideband like my old Drake SW8. Thanks and 73!
It has both. If you watch closely you can see the D and the U in the video. I was receiving such good results from U that I didn’t bother to try L. Thanks for your comments!
Hello well a lower noise floor on the w. However the fidelity on the icom may be just as good. I love finding older radio new in the box. I recently found a panasonic rf 2200 brand new in the box and I was happy to pay 4 hundred for it. Enjoy your radio you have some rare models in your collection. Enjoy. Best regards. Ron z.WA3090SWL.
Wonder if the speaker out in back of the WJ would make that Blose speaker/WJ combo sound better. Sometimes, headphone outputs don't like the low Z of a speaker & may even affect freq response. Icom has a lot more sparkle to the sound & fewer lows.
the wattkins sounds less distorted way less noisy and clearer despite it is assembled like trash in comparance with the high quality build of ICOM. I wonder if the used special chips for government use only and icom consumer grade componrents?
After playing with the 9500, I think I would rather stay on the island by myself with this radio. And the 101 would be free to a good home to make room for another 9500😉

Better SNR ratio on WJ and cleaner audio.

which is why i think that isnt a fair comparison, the icom would have probably been alot better with that bose speaker.

ICOM is the better, and the scope adds a LOT!!!! But if you are on an island, the Yaesu FTDX-101MP is the better choice as it can Call For Help!!!! 🙂

i would like to hear a comparison between the R9500 and the icom ic-7300 in SSB speech.
I don’t have a 7300. But I did do a comparison to a 7610 with a little bit of SSB.

In my opinion the 340 is nearly identical to the 8711
