It doesn't matter if they're breathing fast (or trying to), because of the bronchoconstriction gas exchange isn't happening how it should. So the physical act of ventilation may be fast, but the respiratory exchange isn't happening how it should. This video is a good learning resource, but also somewhat oversimplified for beginning learners.

I see what you mean with the asthma attack but usually that patient is in an anxiety state and trying to breathe really fast

It doesn't matter if they're breathing fast (or trying to), because of the bronchoconstriction gas exchange isn't happening how it should. So the physical act of ventilation may be fast, but the respiratory exchange isn't happening how it should. This video is a good learning resource, but also somewhat oversimplified for beginning learners.
Acidosis could also be associated w/ sleeping cuz the patient is DOSSSing off lol
