Thats a really cool old school boiler right there. I must call you sometime and talk about boilers and heat exchangers if you know enough about them. Ive got a different idea im toying with. Thank you for the insight into your next 7month being a slave to the system 😄 great video buddy 👍
Evening Jerry , I like the wood boiler . I wish we had one but at 61 it would take a long time to pay for itself . Our winters aren’t as bad as what yall have . 👍🏻🇺🇸
That’s a really nice stove. I think I mentioned this last year. The kids have a aquatherm ss 145. Water capacity is 45 gallons. Stainless round firebox. You DONT want to leave that door ajar !! Lol. This video just reminded me I loaned my sister my potato hook. Need that back! Thanks Jerry. Great video.
That definitely is not a lot of water. This stove has been amazing. It'll burn anything. I never throw garbage but about 10 to 20 deer carcasses go in every year. I hope I can get a few more years out of it. Don't forget to ask about your potato hook. Thanks Terry. Have a great weekend.
Good morning Jerry it was a crisp 29 degrees here this morning. 1st hard frost for us. That’s impressive that your boiler has lasted for 21 years. I looked at them a few years ago, cha ching 😂. Plus we would have to install a blower to distribute the heat. Winter is definitely coming, going to have to switch the sawmills over to windshield washer fluid too. Have great weekend friend.
@@AppalachianFarmstead there is definitely is some changes that have to take place in the system that for sure. The hardest was to figure out how to trick the furnace to only blow the the fan motor and not fire up the propane flame. I used an aqua stat and when the water gets below 120 degrees the propane kicks on. I only use one thermostat for both propane and wood boiler for each zone. I didn't want one thermostat for the boiler and one for the propane furnace. I should have talked about that. Thanks Mike. Now I have to get back to processing my deer lol.
@@AppalachianFarmstead it's supposed to get up in the 70s today so overnight is all I let it hang. We were in the mid-twenties this morning the thing is nice and cold.
@@AppalachianFarmstead I have one as well. And I paid $700 about 10 years ago to have a new compressor and everything put on it. It only lasted a year. It leaked out. It's one of those walk-in freezers that you would have at a restaurant. I built a shed around it so nobody could really tell what it was LOL. I wish I had it today
21 years on a wood boiler sounds amazing, but with proper care becomes attainable. Not letting it over-heat or run dry, keeping scale and minerals in check, yearly and on-going maintenance, plus being a low pressure system, all factors toward a possible long life! Even if the water jacket failed tomorrow, and I hope it doesn't, rebuilding a water tank with boiler plate would be do-able and worth it!!
@@timscartoys9321 I agree with everything you said plus my PH of my water is almost 8. I would most likely do what you suggest if I have to. Hopefully not soon lol. Have a great one Tim
Love that solid fuel heat. We have an old wood / coal forced hot air furnace. It's a DuoMatic Olsen out of Canada. I bought it in 93 for $300 and it was used then. Been a great furnace. I hate to think of not having it. It must burn those deer bones to powder. I wouldn't make the Mrs. mad if I were you. They would never find the body would they??? And I don't think it would smell like BBQ either.
@@jims6308 do you burn coal in it? The old equipment just was built to last. It does pretty much break everything down. I through 6 point I got last night in it today after I butchered it. Tomorrow it'll get my 9 point carcass I got tonight. I'm tagged out except for a for tag lol. Once you get past the burning of the hide (I used to give them to a taxidermy but he's gone not) it's not to bad. It's on the down wind side lol. Sometimes my neighbor a quarter mile away takes note lol. But I also cremate his carcasses. I hope she doesn't get any ideas lol.
@@BigelowWoodcraft Yes I can burn wood and or coal. It has shaker grates in the bottom of the firebox. We have bituminous coal in the area. It will also burn anthracite but that has to be trucked in from out of the area. Cost is much more. Our local soft coal mine will be closing within the year. I just got 8 tons but come next spring before it closes I'll probably get 3 or 4 more tons. the 8 tons will last about 4 years. That should keep me for a few years since I mostly burn wood throughout the day now that I'm retired. I'm 70 and still enjoy cutting and splitting firewood. Gives me a reason to have my tractors and dump trailer and chainsaws. Gotta keep movin when out in the woods, don't want the buzzards to think that I'm what's for dinner. Two buck that's great. I got a nice Pa 8 pointer this afternoon at 5:30 here on the farm. We'll be butchering it in the morning. I won't be making deer carcass BBQ since the furnace is in the attached garage.
@@willy4571 didn't come with one 21 years ago. Never really needed it I guess. I see all the new ones with one but didn't get one. It's never been a problem.
We would appreciate it if you would subscribe. It really helps the channel. Thank you.

Any mixing valves in your system? I have a CB 6048 about the same vintage, still going strong also. Love the looks of your setup.
