Excellent Ride shame about your gopro mount I'm here because of Matt Healy he rode this trail last week it was awesome and when he rides back down it's views are spectacular! thankyou dude for your blog and your dedication
Thank you! I'm actually debating on getting a proper camera rig for riding as I can never seem to get the angles correct. Especially since the angle changes so much from standard road position to moving into the lower drops.
A few days ago I rode my heavy expedition bike loaded with camping gear and panniers from Costa Mesa to Modjeska Canyon and up Harding to Four Corners where I spent the night, then down Maple Springs the next morning and back home. Isn't Harding now in worse shape than years ago when its surface was firmer and smoother? I had difficulty maintaining traction in some places, but that's partly because of that bike's tires. Compared to riding my old Ritchey mountain bike it was VERY hard work! Maybe next time I'll ride my off-road 700C drop-bar bike that's not yet been up into the Santa Ana mountains. Watching the sunrise from the top made all the pain and suffering worth it!
Thats one hell of a ride! Personally I've always found harding to be a very rocky trail. They just recently graded it about 4 months ago. Even that didn't improve overall road quality by very much. Always a decent ride though.
Nice video! Harding is one of my favorite rides in OC. Going up, I like to stop at mile 4.2 (Elemnt computer) for a break and photos. This spot is an hour into the ride - about halfway by time. Plus, it has excellent views of downtown LA, Catalina, and South Orange County. Harding to 4 Corners is about 18.2 miles roundtrip and a 3,500 foot climb. Try a night ride sometime...
