Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

Here is our full interview with Jason - ua-cam.com/video/sxR8EJnMKkE/v-deo.html
One of the things that I have learned is that you can only rely on yourself to make your vision come true. Once your dream requires the consent and participation of other people, you will often be let down. Should things be that way? Absolutely not, but that’s reality. The difficult thing about filmmaking is that it requires the consent and participation of so many people, and unfortunately, no one will ever care about your vision as much as you.
What a great interview. He definitely suffered for his art. Not to make light of what he went through, but the way he persevered and what he learned is inspiring to make his dreams come true.
FINALLY!!! ANOTHER FILMMAKER!!! I love this channel for the interviews with actually filmmakers. Unfortunately 95% of the interviews are not with genuine filmmakers but with writers. Writing and filmmaking are two different modes of thinking. Courage to make a movie and "courage" to write a movie are two different kinds of courage. I have to wait once or twice out the month for an actually director to be interviewed. But its always worth it.
Happy New Year Bumdog! We hope you are doing well. Not sure why our videos aren't showing up in your feed. Here are just a few titles we have published in the last few weeks, these are all filmmakers talking various filmmaking topics...

@@filmcourage Thanks. I checked out all of them!
I could listen to this guy all day. Researching and planning my first short, this dude is great to learn from.
insanely inspirational! You HAVE to push yourself! Give yourself the shot you're looking for and manage your expectations. MAJOR props to Jason for not giving up after his 2nd film!
Love this one! Thanks for posting Carlos!
@@filmcourage thank you for sharing and reminding me why I love and chose this artistic, creative life!
Our best to you Carlos!
This is a very, very, very, inspiring interview. Among the bests. Jason is one of the few to mention the real path towards making a movie. Thank you!
Love this one! Thanks for watching AC!
I’m planning on shooting my first feature film this year and this was just the video I needed. Right on point! I could have listened to him for another hour. I just wished he would have talked about how he raised the $12K like practical ways to raise funds would be very helpful. But it was an amazing video. Wish me luck for my film 🤲🏾✨
Very much good luck, mate. Keep hustling.
- Genuinely from a random 30 years old guy still struggling on how to make his debut.
Love it! There is no right way to do it, we all have different journeys and its all worth it.
Great interview. He kept it all the way real. I love stories where filmmakers develop grit because that’s what it takes
Jason, thanks for sharing your story. I’m inspired by your determination.
thank you for sharing this interview. my first film is almost going through the same situation right now and it helps to know i am not the only one. gives strength. its going to be worth it. you will have a finished film in your hand.
It is so inspiring watch him talk.
This is great... so insightful & inspirational. Jason is actually one of the few filmmakers I truly admire and respect among those who feature on this platform. You can really feel he's been there and done it... and I wish him nothing but the best moving forward!
This is really insightful for the working filmmaker looking for info on how to land deals to make their film.
So many of your guests are opinionated to a fault. This dude was brutally honest and laid it bare. This is stuff we can actually use.
What do you like about this video?
he is an actual filmmaker.
He made me remember my first film, the pain it was to get it funded and made, the great void left behind once it was finished and the ardous process of starting all over again. The circle of getting in love with a project give all you have to it and then get your heart broken every single time is just amazing. Makes me want to shoot a film right now.
Team work can make things easier. Having an entire team who works hard is paramount.
thank you Jason Satterlund
So informative and refreshing to hear the raw, gritty truth of filmmaking. I understand his plight for the art and it’s inspiring to me. Thank you
Thanks for watching!
Every one of these videos is a gem. Can you please start posting all these videos as podcasts? It would make listening to all this incredible content so much easier. Thank you!

I was so moved by Jason's declaration at 11:20 (which confirms what we've been building) that I called him on his cell phone to thank him! Looking forward to having this discussion. Will try to keep you posted...
Good luck on the new film!
You know that after i listened to this guy, I got an opportunity to the film world. And, it paid immediate cash. I was thinking about this video and bazinga!! I was working with my alum and producing.
Great interview. Nice guy. Hard worker too.
This was amazing.
I dont remember the name of the football teams either, but it was a famous college football game. A famous moment in sports.
If you’ve ever committed to making a film you feel every piece of his pain 😩 #dontgiveup #betterdaysthemovie 🎬🎬
This is Joe Dirt on steroids. Love this guy.
I think the game he was referring to was Cal vs Stanford in the 80's.
I was thinking the same thing, my uncle actually made the big block on that play, crazy lol
Dude is beautiful inside and out
I have a question for any filmmakers that may come across my comment, do you feel social media has aided you greatly in the process of making a movie or just facilitated getting a film off the ground in any way? I meant bc of “networking”
There's a steampunk angel movie out there that can't be released?
Here's the teaser - ua-cam.com/video/qqATTCrzOv4/v-deo.html
Great 🙏🙏🅿️🎙
12 grand with 2022 tech can go a long way.
Many people not use to a big budget films. Many not use to money they go crazy when you mention anything about money.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Hey, nobody is going to give you money until you can say you have so and so attached. So it would seem to me it is a chicken and egg situation. I think you have to get a few key people to sign letters of intent based on the script or synopsis or whatever, maybe a teaser. You show that to investors.

Good thing he had his wife at his side during his dark times.
You didnt get the money because you asked for more than you needed.
you made the film for less than you asked for lol
Film making is for little rich kids
Worst movie you’ve ever seen huh? My next one will be better.
10:53 he went full parrot 🦜 mode for a “second” 🤣
